I met some American females while I was in Simferopol, and out of masochism or whatever it may have been, I actually talked to them to find out what the hell they were doing there. They were Peace Corps volunteers, and they seemed to me to be rather bitter about North American men coming to Ukriane looking for "mail-order brides", as they put it. I can never figure out why American chicks come to FSU countries. They're incapable of competing.

Most likely she was Peace Corp serving in Kiev. I can't think of any other reason why she would be there in EE.
Actually, shit, I know an American girl who served there come to think of it -- annoying like this one too.

wow...it's starting to get a lot of press here in Russia. Seems to be way more of a deal than the protests in Russia were last year (those were confined to the center and were nowhere near the size of what's going on now in Ukraine).
safe travels calwinston awaiting your report.....from what I've read it's escalating, but I never know what to believe from the mainstream western press as they tend to overinflate everything (e.g. Russia last year) or to try to conform it to the their often-bogus or only half-true storyline (e.g. Egypt, or the so-called "Arab Spring").
In this case seems like it's actually getting pretty bad....at a minimum for gaming if places are shut down.

I left the US at 13. Family doesn't speak English (my mom often speaks English to me with German words and phrases thrown in) friends and acqaintances rarely ever talk in English, so other than movies and the occasional phonecall home, I haven't heard American women's voices in person on a regular basis in almost 13 years.
Frequenting a coffee shop at the university in Beijing you'd occasionally encounter these Chinese-American chics sitting at a table, talking in this heavily accented American college speech, the type you'll probably hear in the Valley or something...
Every other word was, like, "like" or, like, "y'know" and ohmygod it was like SO, like you couldn't, like. fucking. BELIEVE-it...like, EEEooh my gawd. When they wanted to get a point across or...ask for a favor...or I don't know what they would squeak and raise the pitch of their voice while exaggerating the drawl in their mouths, as though every sentence were a question...of course never forgetting to say "like" every five seconds. Of course, they weren't all like that, and some would talk normal, but the ones that were...
It got worse with this group of Korean-American chics once started trying to convert this (local) Chinese girl they'd apparently met previously to Christianity. Again, picture this valley/"Clueless" accent (raising the pitch of your voice to sound like a question even if it's not) in the following dialogue...
"So, like, tell us about your first, like...spirrritual experienth!"
[...]
The girl's English doesn't seem to be that fluent, so a few minutes into it, they start explaining things to her with cups and coke bottles.
"Okay, so-like, this is, like, Jesus?...and this is your soul, and this is hell...and in order to get to jeezuth [...]"
After a while I just wanted to stand up, grab them by the shoulders and shout "Will you please shut the fuck up already and just talk normal!!
There were a few isolated incidents were you'd see a couple American college students traveling in Germany and the girl would say "yeeah, we're gonna like...head out to this bar"...loud and annoying.
Granted, they didn't all talk like that...and there were some guys who would talk like that, too, just adding "dude" in between the "likes" and "y'knows" This one ABC chick from California started chatting me up on the subway in Beijing who seemed pretty sweet and didn't talk like that. Despite what I wrote I usually don't have any opinion of American women either way, probably because I don't see them that often. I strongly suspect guys in Western countries can get turned off particularly to whichever Western women they spent their adolescence around. With me, this mainly applies to Southern German women. Though not as annoying as what I stated above, nothing turns me off more than hearing a girl talking in "Fränkisch" or Bavarian.
I've noticed some Japanese girls can sound just as bad, especially when they're talking in Kansai-ben.
