Is Bullying A Problem In American Society?

Bullying in Middle School and my first year in High School gave me a lifetimes worth of motivation to train martial arts. Still training regularly to this day.

I hated dealing with it as a kid, but in hindsight, it served me well to go through it.

I don't support hazing the the military. It never made any sense and I didn't feel tougher or part of the ranks after. After picking up Pfc, I took a beatdown so bad I had to take 1600 mg of motrin and laid in the rack for 12 hrs. That was a support unit. Next unit was infantry and it was handled differently. The guys would come by, punch me on the arm, and shake my hand. Then later drink beers and let me know what was expected. I picked up my blood stripe in the last unit, which was support, and the bitch ass NCO's were chomping at the bit to beat my ass to a pulp. I told them whoever thought they were man enough to start have at it, but I was gonna fire back. They pussed out and ran to the Gysgt cause I wasn't a team player. None of those bitches had ever served in a forward unit.

Another tradition is "wet downs", where you buy all the beer. It's your welcoming into the next rank. I flipped the script and made my fellow NCO's pony up for the new guys, and welcomed them to the fold. Then sat them down for a schooling. Besides we made more on the pay scale so why force someone to buy our shit? Welcoming another Marine into the ranks showed a better attitude than beating their ass.

When I was in middle school and high school I was all skin and bones. People pushed me around like I was a punk. Got bullied due to having a shit ton of acne as well as some fucked up teeth. That's what got me motivated to start weight training and improving myself.

Like K Galt, it gave me the motivation to work hard and improve myself. My goal was to get strong and big enough to where everybody would look and say "Damn, wouldn't want to fuck around with that guy." Still have a little ways to go but that has kept me motivated for many years.
