I long game using whatsapp, can't long game with European girls over text when they have to drop serious amount of cash for them on a text to a foreign number. It's fucking handy as all they need is a data connection in their country or wifi anywhere else. I've not met a European girl that doesn't have whatsapp.

Not trolling, I honestly have a few questions about this app.
1) If you're not sitting in a room with the person, how do you know what the latency is? How can you distinguish the latency associated with transmission from that inherent in someone typing some shit on a cell phone? Might it be that their UI looks like an IM app so it gives the appearance of instantaneous communication?
2) What country are people using this in? Could it be that sms latency is a much bigger issue in the countries where the app is most popular?
3) Who is using it? What demographic do they cater to?
4) How did you hear about it? Why did you download it? What platform is it on (iOS, android?)?

Its much more of a Euro thing I think, most young people in Europe have it, last time I was in the States in February hardly anyone had it.

Would just echo what's been said. WhatsApp is very big in EU and you are pretty much out if you don't use it. Text charges are around 9 eur cents/message and whatsapp just makes the convo more fluid with loads of pics back and forth

Cost's £1.50 for me to message abroad, so imagine girls on a tenth on my income having that cost texting me. In Europe whatsapp is king, like I said I don't know a single girl in Europe myself that does not use it.

I haven't been able to connect to whatsapp for the past two hours and have tried everything to troubleshoot this, any of you guys having the same problem today?
EDIT: Whatsapp came back on line, not too sure if it goes often as I've only been using it for a few months but hopefully it doesn't go down on a Saturday again!

I read the thread and honestly don't understand how this is better than any other text/chat platform whether it be Apple or Android or Google Voice, or other. I can get pics on all of them. Latency is sub 2 seconds on all of them.
Yes, I have WhatsApp. But are guys really waiting to see if certain girls log on? Jeez.

I used to also be pro-calling, simply to cut the chase without going through the entire text process, however as it has come to be in the new era, calling a random girl you just met is simply to upfront, I personally think it shows you are over valuing her by taking minutes out of our precious lives to call.
In terms of whatsapp, this app allows us to tap into the female physhe, and can cut the bullshit quickly interms of her interest level, by simply showing us when you send the message that either
a. She hasnt seen your message yet, so she actually hasnt gotten around to replying to you
b. She has seen your message and doesnt reply after a significant amount of time, and therefore gives a solid idea of where you stand in terms of her interest in you, helping you filter brods faster than you ever thought
It allows you to go into a whole new world of mind fucking with her, as a girl that is actually into you will be watching to see if you saw her message and start to reply. I personally like to begin to type then delete and then get back to her many minutes after, to my avail she will sometimes send an extra "?" after she finally folds.
There are many ways this app allows us to fuck around with her, further enhancing your higher social value than her, ultimately increasing your chances of yielding results of the first date.
Bottom line, text boys! Iv seen it too many times of friends calling brods they just met and to their frustration, usually never end up seeing them again. The 21 century has created a new evil species of women, who chew and spit back out 95% of men out there. We simply need to deal with status quo, which has totally erased a simply phone call as means of meeting up with a girl you just met.

I can confirm that whatsapp is much "faster" than texting. The reason is that when you hit send, there is zero delay, which means it takes on more of an IM feel than standard texting. You also have more options with emoticons, and pictures are easier to send. Overall, it's better than standard texting.
When I first tried whatsapp last year, I didn't see it's utility, but this year I'm using it quite often. It's main benefit, however, is messaging girls who are in different countries than you. Makes it easier to stay in touch.

best feature is the profile pictures+status updates. AIM reincarnated mobile.

All the young girls in London use whatsapp. I had to start using it a few months ago and now rarely receive a normal text as most people use whatsapp instead.
As said above the girl can tell at what time you read the message. You can get around this on some phones that allow you to preview the message without opening whatsapp. Then you can play it cool like you didn't read her message straight away.
Can be a pain when you said to a girl that you were not going out tonight but later on the girl can see you last logged into whatsapp at 3am.

Interesting how much heat I copped when I first dropped this thread. Now people are agreeing that it is decent, almost universally used by the girls you want to bang and helpful for your game.

Whatsapp uses phone numbers stored on your phone and adds them to whatsapp. This has had the funny result that many old or loing forgotten girls I banged or didn't bang suddenly show up on Whatsapp, as soon as the girl buys a smartphone and installs Whatsapp.
That makes it tempting to contact old bangs or old prospects that were for some reason put aside or in freeze model. However, it seems a better idea to get new numbers instead of whatsapping old prospects.
Any thoughts on this?

The $0.99/year subscription has kept a lotta broads off that app. But as the #1 messaging app (# of monthly users), its lag time is virtually zero and iCloud actually backs up saved conversations. I like the app, but not that many people I know in Los Angeles use it over text. Like Roosh said, it's huge for people overseas.

There's a whole slew of IM apps these days - some of them with free or paid calls as well, making them complete Skype alternatives - popularity seems to vary from country to country.
I primarily use Viber (for texting and international phone calls) with dates, friends and family - I also like that they have a desktop version I can use when I'm on the computer.
I think WeChat and Line are the most popular choices in many Asian countries?

Yep, WhatsApp is all the rage. All of my relatives that live outside the USA (Eurpoe & Australia) use it all the time. I'd rather communicate via WhatsApp than thru Facebook, which I now look at ~2x a month now...not missing anything there.
Also, it seems that Asian chicks are using KakaoTalk as their texting "platform". I'm thinking of doing an Asian trip and have started pipelining; I've only chatted with one Asian (Korean) chick that uses WhatsApp; the other 99% use KakaoTalk.

I guess I'm just old school. I hate texting. I mean WHOLE DAMN CONVERSATIONS. It's stupid. Should have just picked up the phone and said all that shit. It's strange that women were are down with this, because talking is in their DNA.

Women are down with it because it lets them get attention from multiple guys at the same time
