Langkawi, Malaysia??

Langkawi, Malaysia??

I'm a huge beach fan and was shocked there was nothing on this forum about this island. I have been in Thailand (Bangkok, Phuket, Ko Phi Phi) for a month and have heard about this island in Malaysia from a few travelers.

If there is any advice out there on where to stay or to go would be great!

Thanks!

Langkawi, Malaysia??

I heard from some european travelers when I was in Thailand that the beaches and snorkeling are amazing, better than anything in thailand, but nightlife and females are below par due to muslim influence. Although these guys didn't seem like the kind of people to plow through obstacles.

Do locals / Asian tourists go there or only westerners? I am heading to Malaysia soon.

I've been to Langkawi. It's more of a luxury island as opposed to most Thailand beach/island destination and Malasyia's Perenthian Island's on the east coast.

While it's a great destination I wouldn't go there with girls in mind. The average age is significantly higher than in the above mentioned and the girls you will find there of acceptable age are likely there as a couple with some guy.

Langkawi is the resort for the Malaysians.

Whilst Penang, the more known of malaysia's 'tourist' islands, has it's roots in the chinese as a trading post and formed out of their Buddhist religion, the malays felt this was not suitable for their sensibilities. So what you have is langkawai, more low key, more attention paid to muslim sensibilities. It just happens to be in a better spot in terms of beach and swell.

This also makes in better in terms of being 'family friendly', and it will attract these types of westerners.

So what you get is great scenery, and a very relaxed environment because there is reduced vice and no hordes of horny backpackers or sex tourists. But I wouldn't say it's a good environment for chicks.

But I'll repeat this once more. On it's own merits, Malaysia for women isn't that bad. But most of us have to travel a long way to get there, and to have Thailand to its immediate north and for the same ethnic group, Indonesia to its south. You're not pin pointing it down.

It's like me flying from Australia to the U.S, and going to Galverston bay for the beach instead of Miami, or going to New Engladn instead of Colorado for snow-boarding.

Have you travelled a lot around Malaysia? What is the best beach for chasing local girls / Asian tourists?

I have some knowledge of Malaysia and the malay peninsula.

I don't always comment on it because I was 'blue pill' when I was there, and I know I wouldn't always have the right perspective.

For pickp, I'd say Penang. You'll get a proportionately higher chinese higher population, and a more liberal-minded malay population.

But as i said, for someone who stayed there, you'd venture out to Thailand if you wanted fun.

Mind me asking where you stayed in Penang?

Bayview Hotel.

That said, it was real Blue Pill stuff.

"Near beaches and exciting tourist districts!"

But plenty of Chinese women there.

Have you been around East Malaysia at all? and would you recommend it over the West side?

I haven't been the east side, I don't have a desire to either to be honest.

Bumniputra I believe is felt stronger there, but I could be wrong.

Labuan is the most appealing feature of that side, and that'snot related to women.

Thanks for these rundowns, T and A. I just moved to Singapore (long-term) and need to get a good picture of Malaysia. Penang has been #1 on my list for a while now but let's hope those Chinese are open-minded (so far, the Malays in SP have been way more intimate than the Chinese...)
