I'm all for supporting cancer research and patients but I read something about the president of Susan G. Komen cutting herself a six figure check so I stopped donating. Also, why can't men's prostate cancer get any support???
But since this is an NFL thread -- GO BROWNS!!! currently first in the AFC north. Hopefully Hoyer returns because Weeden is definitely not the answer.
I hate to say this, but the NFL sucks for 'white knighting' on the breast cancer awareness. They should be supporting prostate cancer victims first, especially given it's one of the biggest forms of cancer for men. Better yet, they should first and foremost show us all how concerned they are about player safety. How about "Player Safety Awareness Week?" Instead we find out that they were (supposedly) trying to ignore research about players brain injuries/concussions (link here:
http://bigstory.ap.org/article/mega-laws...ry-links-0) and woke up to the issue quite late in the game. And now they push Thursday night games, a potential 18-game schedule, etc. all of which the players are completely against and make injuiries much more likely and reduce healing time, just to increase the money they make. Wonderful.
And IMO the whole breast cancer thing has to be as much nature as nurture, given how obese the average American woman is these days. Ditto for all the medication Big Pharma pushes on them for 'depression' or whatever. Hey, maybe, just maybe the fact that you weigh 300 pounds and eat incredibly unhealthy food, don't exercise, and are medicated 24-7 just MIGHT have something to do with your cancer? Oh wait not that can't be true you're a victim and didn't have one thing to do with it.
The pink penalty flags were confusing as hell too.
So I guess "Homosexual NFL Support Week" is next (to help attract that developing pool of gay NFL fans / players?). Honestly I think that's coming. Seems the NFL is into pandering to ANY group where it thinks it might be able to gain some exta viewers/$$$s. When it should be much more focused on player safety, the concussion issues, helmets, pensions, healthcare after retirement, etc. Instead we get pink flags, wristbands, and a bunch of BS 'feelgood' sentiment about how the NFL helps women and is aware about breast cancer (but apparently less aware of prostate cancer and player safety).
Not saying "Breast Cancer Awareness" isn't a good thing, but given it's overwhelmingly male fan base and player safety issues I think the NFL should have otehr priorities right now. I almost felt like boycotting watching the games this week, but that would be a tough pill to swallow, given how much I love football and the NFL.
