THERE IS NO PLAYER BETTER THAN LIONEL MESSI ON THIS PLANET AT THIS POINT IN TIME !
I'm not sure which sport you have been watching but it can't be football.
Messi is not the best player in the world lmao. Maybe according to FIFA who keeps giving him the ballon d'or when he doesn't deserve to win it each year.

Wow I don't even feel the need to argue with you about this. I'll just drop the statistics and some vids because I'm not 100% sure you actually watch the game. Presently who is the world's best player?? If you don't believe it is Messi or Ronaldo.
Please feel free to drop me some some statistics on these underrated players that you believe did deserve to win it , with a video which portrays talent better than the ones below.
Broken the record in La liga for the most goals scored in one season at 50 goals, averaging one goal per match. In that same season he broke record and netted 73 goals. across all competitions.
In 2012, he broke Gerd Mullers record of 85 goals in one year which stood for 40 years. Scoring 91 goals.
One of the best goal scorers for Argentina (one of the greatest footballing nations known to mankind) closing in on Diego Maradonna who is considered one of the best if not the best in history.
he is the top scorer ever for Barcelona one of the greatest clubs in the with world. with 308 goals and he's only 25
Most Hat tricks in one la liga's season with 8, the average attacker can't even score 24 goals or a Hat trick at a professional level.
Lionel Messi is the only player to be top scorer in the champions league 4 straight seasons.
He is currently on a 19 consecutive match goal scoring streak in which he has netted 28 goals, having broken the previous record of 17.
GOALS
CREATIVITY AND VISION
DRIBBLING AND SKILLS
The greatest players are the consistent ones. Who perform at a World Class level week in and week out.

Yes, If they were to go the MLS and were provided with the requisite support from their fellow team mates. They would annihilate the MLS !
Similar to the same way Neymar is killing it in the brazilian league with much weaker defenders compared to in Europe.
The difference between the standard of play in the MLS in comparison to top leagues in Europe is massive. If those teams were to play over here, they would be in the 2nd/3rd division based on what I've seen.
I think most MLS teams would be mid-table Championship teams--pretty good, but nowhere on the level of top half-dozen sides of, say, the EPL, the Bundesliga, or Serie A.
And, frankly, I think it's unfair to expect the league to better than that at this stage of its development.
That being said, the level of play has improved since I started watching games in the late 90s. Moreover, the league is here to stay, as it has been managed wisely with its flexible salary cap. Of course, what happens then is that the level of play IS going to be low because salaries are generally low.
I also think more USA players would play in the better European leagues if it weren't for the restrictive work rules there.
As for Messi, if he played in MLS he would light it up. I also think people don't really appreciate what a great athlete he is. There is this great sequence when Argentina played the USA, and Messi went up for header again Oguchi Onyweyu. Gooch is s 6'3" - Messi is what...5'7"? Messi won the header, jumping higher than Gooch. I swear the kid has a 45 inch vertical leap.
This sequence used to be on youtube, but it's gone now. When I first saw it, I thought it was one of most amazing athletic feats I had seen in years.
What is this thread about? Who are these people?
Messi needs to play abroad to cement his 'best ever' title. All the modern greats dominated in different leagues; both Ronaldo's, Ronaldinho, Zidane, Maradonna etc. and hence proved themselves against different defensive styles and physicality. Messi has so far 'only' done it in Spain so far and has done it in a team built around him with players like Iniesta and Xavi supplying him constantly with through balls. He is also allowed to play by opposing teams whereas Ronaldo ( the new one ) proved himself on freezing afternoons at away grounds like Middlesborough or Sunderland with uncompromising defenders who kicked lumps out of him.
I am not saying Messi is overrated, he's a little genius, however unless he tests himself in Germany or England I will not be able to rate him as the best ever ( I personally rate the original Ronaldo as the best I have ever seen ).
Beckham as a great?! Shit, he wasn't even the best united midfielder when he was there:
Giggs - Keane- Scholes - Beckham
Who was the weakest player in that midfield?? It's not even a debate.

Ronaldo is the best player right now. Messi relies on Barca.... move him anywhere else and he won't be as good. lol at the comments by GQ; I just recognise when someone is living good.
I try and do the same with my life, highly skilled, good looking, great shape, making money.... etc...

Yeah I agree, I may have over exaggerated Beckham's status holding him up there with the greatest players. He has a certain attributes that are definitely up there such as his free kicks which had a huge impact in winning games. Despite that, many other areas of his game were lacking that world class finesse.
On the whole, he was an above average player that received a lot of unnecessary hate.
Messi is the joint top scorer in the World cup qualifiers for Argentina at the moment, he is starting to come good for them. Anyway I agree he needs to either win a world cup for Argentina or go to England or Germany and dominate the league there (or even both). Sadly I think the only move he will do is a move back to Rosario in his 30s. Cant see him playing anywhere else in Europe.
Suarez > Messi > Ronaldo

I don't believe there's just 1 best player. I am saying that these 2 are overhyped, not that they're bad players. There are a lot of great players in the Bundesliga or EPL who are just as good and sometimes even better.

Because La Liga is a 2 team league. He won't break any of these records in the Serie A or EPL.

Messi can only wish to be as good as Maradona. If Messi wins trophy's on his own like Maradona did with Napoli and Argentina, then we can talk.

You say there are players in the Bundesliga and the EPL who are just good as Lionel Messi and at times even better........
I assume these players have names right? Would you care to share some highlights of these unknown stars in action as well as some of their statistics for their respective clubs. I am quite intrigued?

This is a fair point, although they played in two completely different era's. In this day and age Lionel Messi is the greatest in the world and continues to prove this, the highlights and records speak for themselves.
Johan Cruff was better than all those guys.
Big time cigarette smoker too.

You know, I had this debate with a friend of mine who said Zidane was overhyped. I said next time you watch him play, just watch him,and only him. Forget about the other players or the ball. Watch everything he does. See how often he makes a mistake as opposed to doing the correct thing -- positoning himself, connecting the pass, dribbling, defense, winning balls.
He did it. He watched. He had to admit it -- Zidane played almost flawlessly.
Do the same thing. Watch an entire game just focusing on him. You will be amazed.

Sure. Mario Gomez actually scored more goals than Messi in the last Champions League season if you don't count the 4 penalties Messi scored. Ronaldo was behind Gomez with 10 goals. Players like Reus and Ribery, are all world class. Gomez actually lead his team to the CL finals unlike Messi. What happened in the final itself is a whole different story. If you saw the match you know what I mean.

Messi is good, but like I said before, he's overhyped. He hasn't done anything yet for Argentina and actually got slaughtered 4-0 in the quarter finals in the last world cup by the Germans. The Argentine team isn't what it used to be anymore, so lets see if he's so good that he can lead the team to the trophy next year.
The current Argentina team has better talent than the one Maradona played for.

so your implying that Messi scored 4 more easier goals than Gomez in 2012 CL because they were Penalties or what?
Mario Gomez is the world's biggest poacher, scoring half his goals from 5 yards. I am stunned that your seriously comparing Gomez to Messi? That's like comparing Oprah to Beyonce.

Just because he hasn't replicated what Maradonna achieved in the world cup ,25 years ago. Doesn't change the fact that he is currently the World's Best player. Based on what he has achieved thus far in his career, he deserves all the hype he gets and if you take the time to watch him it will become evident to you.
Beckham is a media darling hype machine, over-rated to say the very least and played on some of the greatest clubs in Europe. The media has even hinted at bringing him back as a player for England, absolute ridiculous.
Today the game is more evolved than dead ball crosses, he simply lacks pace and skill.
Yes he sells product, that is why he is kept in the spotlight.

Exactly and that's why PSG signed him as they even admitted. Average player, but iconic in many ways. He even donated his contract earnings all the charity. I will say that Becks in great with free kicks.
