Did the economy kill happy hour?
04-01-2013, 05:57 PM
I'm surprised how many young guys on here don't go out Thursday nights, drink beer, and chase pussy.....What the hell is College for?? My father is 65 and and he still goes bowling and to a bar on Thursday nights.
I got one of my 3 lays in College from "Paulie's Tavern" in Albany NY. Took some hippie chick to the $10 all you can drink Thursday night special.
You can only learn so much from a forum, you need to go outside and game it up........

I don't know about the US but in Canada MADD has destroyed happy hour. Up until a couple years ago happy hour was wide open. Now there are major restrictions on what can be served and how much they can charge.

The discussion in both cases concerned NYC. In the Midwest there are no high end alternatives, just roadhouses filled with fenced stages and inbreds with Mossbergs.
I find it highly improbable that in a city as large as NYC there isn't at least one bar each day of the week that doesn't have a good happy hour. Sometimes it takes a little intel and recon. Nothing good comes easy.
Drinking holes are essentially wet. And they go through seasons. You can't expect a place to remain constant. That is the ebb and flow of these places. They dry up, and then they fill up again. Something as simple as a change in management or a magazine article can turn it back on overnight.

To go back to the original post, (minus White T-Shirt Gate™), I actually think Happy Hour is going strong.
I can't stand Happy Hour, but in CA, I think it is pretty popular.
Brunch is popular for sure.
And I hate brunch.
