Another vote for Illmatic here, and I'm going to put Doe or Die right behind it.

Left off Black Moon - Enta da Stage. A nice slice of hardcore hip-hop:

One guy that I forgot to mention, but is criminally is Roc Marciano. He's in the same vain as Raekwon with the mafioso rap style, smooth delivery and descriptive, but unorthodox lyrics and storytelling. His track Emeralds is an absolute masterpiece:

Loved me some Gang Starr. Definitely was one the most consistent hip-hop duos out there.

A favorite of mine was:

Vince Staples EP Hell Can Wait is the best hip-hop album out this year in my opinion. Either that or Oxymoron by SchoolBoy Q

@Redwood Run the Jewels 2 is also great, it's my number 3. I'm actually seeing them live in a couple months.

I can't believe I left off this album off my list:

An undisputed classic of instrumental hip-hop albums, alongside J Dilla's Donuts & El-P's Weareallgoingtoburninhellmegamixx series.

Nas followed by Raekwon, no doubt about that.

Always some undercover classics though, I stopped listening to hiphop a few years ago (lost my love for the new shit).

I loved this album, no idea why:

And I loved DMX's first album, he always seemed to rap better on crack. Swiss Beatz got his breakthrough as a producer because of it

Liquid Swords gets more play from me these days than 36 Chambers.

Not the greatest ever but a unique classic for sure.

Big L and AZ are like History lessons that you dont get in school. I remember walking by the park on 139 and Lenox after dark... Theyhave a memorial painting of L up there. I did not go in it.

Common - Resurrection doesn't get enough love aside from I Used To Love H.E.R., his wordplay and lyrical ability was crazy throughout that entire album.

Masta Ace - Disposable Arts, Masta Ace - A Long Hot Summer and Sticky Fingaz - Black Trash: The Autobiography Of Kirk Jones are three classic storytelling "concept" albums that I always point to whenever people go on about how Good Kid Maad City was some sort of brand new idea of using an album to tell a story.

This isn't a popular opinion, but Stillmatic is better than Illmatic. I've listened to the whole Nas canon and Stillmatic is his best. Illmatic is a more significant album in terms of influencing other artists culture and all that, sure.

Stillmatic is my personal favorite Nas album. I also thought it was his best, but on a technicality illmatic is still better.
