Easy Houston, you're using the "you hate woman because you've been hurt by a woman" tactic. Coincidentally, i spent some time in Houston and the Friendswood burbs (fine ass Mexican chicas abound) and contemplating relocating back for a spell. If and when i make that move i'm still not fucking with that Screwed and Chopped shit.[Image: confused.gif]

This is far from one of the best, but what do you guys think of Hopsin and Raw? I first heard it about a year ago, and it keeps growing on me. One of my favourite relatively underhyped albums recently.

Soopafly's Dat Whoopty Woop is by far the most underrated West Coast album ever.

This album is one masterpiece after another. Check out the songs Can I Git Bucc, Like it or Not and Telephone Conversation.

Soopafly does things with layering and production that are different and at times at a higher level of richness and complexity than anyone. He's also ridiculously underrated as a rapper, and he's behind some of the sweetest West Coast productions. He produced this.

same old shit, sixes and sevens Shaft...

Never and will never listen to his shit but can't disagree with his statements.

"Trinidad James says that the South is currently running things and New York has fallen off, musically.

Last night in New York City Trinidad James came out to perform at the Converse Rubber Tracks event. During his set, he took some time to talk to the crowd and what he had to say didn't go over too well with the New Yorkers.

Trinidad bashed the NY rap scene, saying it has fallen off, adding that Southern rap is currently running shit. The rap phenom ranted, "I remember when New York ran this shit, dog. When Dipset was fucking turned the fuck up...What the fuck happened, dog? I remember when New York rap was the shit. And us in the South, we was like what the fuck, and we just did our own thing. But now we run yall musically. That's crazy."

Following his controversial statement, Trinidad took to Instagram to respond to what he said.

"I said a lot tonight in NY and people are prolly gonna take the negative and run with it but my main purpose in life only is to take care of my mama and keep my shoe game on "30 million" . Other than that if I can inspire a young person to be the best person they wanna be along the way....then cool. Nothing else matters.#CrazyDeacon #BlackBatman"

Another crazily underrated album from back in the day is Daz and JT's "Long Beach 2 Fillmoe". Almost unknown actually but almost every track is great.

Here's the first track:

South runs shit= Major labels put money behind Southern rappers. Mainly b/c they don't wanna pay to clear the samples used in most East Coast stuff.

Simple music sells b/c it's catchy. Most southern/trap is very simple.

Mainstream rap is dying. Immortal Technique sold 40,000 CDs independently and made $400,000.

Wiz Khalifa went goes gold (500,000), assuming he made the standard .60 per album, made only $300,000 selling more than 10x as units as Tech. lol

These labels wanna make $ but the margins are all fucked up. I hope they keep signing bland Southern rappers...they'll go out of business quicker.

^while I like tech more than wiz khalifa. There's no denying that wiz is making way more money than tech. CDs are a small representation of the money artists make. The real money is in their touring. Wiz definitely get a bigger audience and charges much more for tickets. I saw tech a couple months back and it was only $20 and there were for sure less than 1000 people in attendance.

I get you: Wiz definantely grossed more than Tech last year(and most years).

Tours are the bread & butter for most musicians but the label is seldom involved(the artist or his manager does) so they don't get paid off that, unless you have a 360(horrible) deal. That's why i said record sales and and not ticket sales.

Music/song has existed as long as humans have. Record labels are a 20th century invention seeking to homogenize the most-fad driven genre in the world and it's not working lol

Some good choices in this thread so far, my 2 cents:

Dre - Chronic 2001

Nas - Illmatic

Mos Def - Black on both sides

Any Gangstarr album

Jay Z and Kanye West - Watch the Throne ( i hate kanye too but i gotta give them credit this is a super sick album)

Outkast - Southernplayalisticcadillacmusic

Illmatic...maybe Life After Death. Greatest Intro to an album has to be Genesis-NY State if Mind, followed closely by G-funk Intro on Doggystyle.

People dissing XXL for his Kanye inclusion are missing his point. He isn't saying Kanye is the best rapper of all time or anything like that. Like me, it seems he prefers rap slightly more for the music than for the lyrics. If so, then you have to put Kanye up there. He's experimental, isn't afraid of stretching the limits sonically -Dark twisted fantasy is a brilliant piece of work, for the All of the Lights prelude alone.

Agree with this. Kanye did start out as a producer remember. Dark Fantasy is one the best albums of the last 5-10 years period.

Surprised no one's mentioned Kendrick Lamar's Good Kid, Maad City yet.
