It's definitely in the discussion - it's a certified classic.

I would agree that 36 Chambers is one of the best, Nas' first release Illmatic is also up there as one of the greatest.

Of all-time? You better recognize:

1. The Chronic - Dr. Dre (No discussion. Zero debate. Period, point-blank.)
2. All Eyez on Me - Pac
3. Doggystyle - Snoop Doggy Dogg
4. Ready to Die - Biggie Smalls
5. Black Sunday - Cypress Hill

Shit still hypes me up:

Definitly agree with Jaymillz and Prufrock.
I'm also going to throw in Life After Death, College Dropout, Section 80, and The Marshal Mather's LP.

Marshal Mathers LP, 36 Chambers, Ready to Die are probably my favorite albums of all time

Was never that much of a Tupac fan, but I liked Hit 'em Up and California Love

The reason chose Illmatic is because you can listen to it all the way through every time without skipping any of the tracks. As much as I love Ready to Die & 36 Chambers, the skits start to wear on me after the first 100 listens. Also I'm surprised no one has mentioned Mobb Deep: The Infamous yet. Smif-n-Wessun: Da Shinin' ain't no joke either. I'll listen to Street Level by The Beatnuts all day every day.

When I think of Hip Hop I think of the Boom Bap. Dre, Snoop, Pac & all that is G-Funk. That's a whole separate convo. And if you're gonna talk about G-Funk, don't forget the GOAT, Too $hort. And on the West Coast today or any day, no one gets more respect than DJ Quik.

Don't mind me, though. I'm just a n00b, and I'm kinda fucked up right now... [Image: king.gif]

This conversation is going to have a lot of people repping their respective 'hoods. So, I'll speak up for the 718. For me, Biggie's Life After Death is the best rap album.

[Image: 220px-NotoriousB.I.G.LifeAfterDeath.jpg]

Here's why:

-It's a double album and every track is good. The typical rap album has a few banging tracks and a lot of filler. Ever song on Life After is listenable and enjoyable. Even the skits are hot. "The mad rapper" is a classic.

-There's different styles of rap and while many rappers manage to master a particular one, no one can move among them all with Biggie's level of skill.

Straight-up braggadocio:
Your reign on the top was short like leprechauns
As I crush so-called willies, thugs, and rapper-dons
Get in that ass, quick fast, like Ramadan
It's that rap phenomenon Don Dada, fuck Poppa

Story-telling:
Today's agenda, got the suitcase up in the Sentra
Go to room 112, tell them Blanco sent ya
Feel the strangest, if no money exchanges
I got these kids in Ranges, to leave them niggas brainless

Coke music:
I've been in this game for years, it made meExplain an animal
It's rules to this shit, I wrote me a manual
A step-by-step booklet for you to get
Your game on track, not your wig pushed back
Rule Number Uno: never let no one know
How much dough you hold cause you know
The cheddar breed jealousy 'specially
If that man fucked up, get yo' ass stuck up

Club bangers (everyone gets hyped when this comes on):
B-I-G P-O-P-P-A
No info for the DEA
Federal agents mad cause I'm flagrant
Tap my cell and the phone in the basement
My team supreme, stay clean
Triple beam lyrical dream, I be that
Cat you see at all events bent
Gats in holsters, girls on shoulders

The greatest hip hop album of all time is Ready to Die. A close second is Life After Death.

Not necessarily the best ever, though some are, these are some of my favourites:

Ready To Die- Biggie
The Blueprint- Jay-Z
Late Registration- Kanye West
Marshal Mathers LP- Eminem
Doggystyle- Snoop Dogg
Da Drought 3- Lil Wayne (not ashamed of liking lil wayne at his peak)
Hell Hath No Fury- the Clipse

to me "My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy" is sonically and creatively unmatched to date. he set the bar insanely high with this one.

I'm surprised that no one has mentioned Reasonable Doubt by Jay-Z. The beats are great, he rides the beats well, and his rhyme schemes are crazy. Its a great CD to listen to at the gym.

I disagree. If this were a thread about greatest rappers, then you'd be right. Kanye is a mediocre lyricist. This is about the greatest albums, the whole package. And Kanye is absolutely one of the greatest producers in hip hop history.

In no particular order:

Nas - Illmatic
Public Enemy - Nation of a Million
Wu-Tang - 36 Chambers
Dr. Dre - Chronic
NWA - Straight Outta Compton

...ask me tomorrow and the list may change because you still have: Mobb Deep - Infamous, Gangstarr - Step Into The Arena, Raekwon - Bulit for Cuban Lynx

kanye doesn't belong... you lost all credibility with this single statement hahahha..

of course he's not MC like nas or rakim. but his ALBUMS (as a whole) destroy others and take hip hop to another level.
