I live here in NYC, too. This is all true. I've moved around quite a bit, lived all over the U.S. and in Western Europe. This is the best city in the world in my opinion. You have easy access to a large number of nationalities and ethnicities. You can make some serious coin getting involved, at a very high level, in basically any industry you might want. You can try out your hipster game in Billyburg, throw on your pointy toed shoes and hit the meatpacking district, try out your tourist game in Times Square on some chubby but impressionable chicks from Iowa, the works man. What the hell are you looking for if you can't find it here?! And the points above about logistics are spot on: I haven't had logistics this good since college.

Break down your night spots you hit.

Which spots which nights?

So damn hard to get the name of a bar around here.

my Bowery sheet dropping soon. Please tell me you're hitting the Hamptons for Labor Day before hitting Manhattan in September. That's a strong move.

I'm planning to hit New York later this year for a couple of months probably Sept/Oct. Any tips on short term accommodation and areas to live? I'm looking to spend up to $2500 a month although I would go higher if I have to but at the end of the day I know I won't get anything impressive unless I spend a tonne of money and the pad is just to rest up and bring the girls back. Also I don't mind sharing.

Sounds like you're young. Type Pianos into google maps in lower east side, find any place nearby for sealing the deal. You're welcome!

I hope we can put to rest now the notion that NYC is a "cock fest." There are plenty of fine women in NYC. Are they "easy" or can you pull them is another question, but the women are definately there. In the summertime, there is probably just about no other place I'd rather be.

No I'm late 30's, I'll have a lot of free time when I'm there so I'll definitely be hitting up a lot of daygame.

I just found this on Craigslist: http://newyork.craigslist.org/mnh/sub/3108468362.html
Something like this would be perfect.

This is 100 West 39th...min 3 months with a one month broker fee will put you ~$13K. In this area I'd go further west. The 10th/11th Avenue and 42nd Street corridor will get you a bit cheaper and possibly avoid the broker's fee. You'll likely be taking a lot of taxis anyway

Thanks, so the broker fee is a months rent? Damn that is expensive.
I'd really prefer to just share rather than blowing 13k on a place which I won't be spending a that much time in.

Accommodation really is the killer in New York.

Yeah, it really is brutal...you may even pay one month on a place you only rent for a month. It will still be larger and cheaper than a hotel.

If it was me I'd go for something further downtown. You will be in the thick of the action although the apartment you get for your money will almost assuredly be pre-war. There are a couple of new buildings and others less than 10 years old on the fringes of the LES and EV (Avenue B and Stanton Street) where you could find sublets. These buildings are packed with models too. If you must have amenities like roof, gym, etc stick with that corridor between 37th-45th and 5th-12th Avenues. That will be your absolute best value. The further west you go the newer the building will likely be and the more affordable it will likely be.

Check into these two...

http://www.silvertowers.com Ridiculous amenities but you need to be OK with being on the Hudson and 42nd. It's a rental building but they set aside a number of units for short-term. I cannot remember the starting price points.

http://www.river2riverrealty.com Across the street from Silver Towers. Older, amenities not as nice but incredible value. You will not find better deals in the city for high-rise, furnished apartments. Might even be able to swing a 1BR for $3K and no-fee.

(Forgot to mention...look into the Atelier for R2R realty. It's a condo but the guy bought a ton of units in the building so he can bypass the condo board on short-term rentals.)

Good luck.

You're basically on point here...I'd say NoLita because you're within stone's throw to almost everything worth a damn except the West Village and the occasional foray into far West Chelsea (restaurant/gallery game). Very small, charming neighborhood that has an extremely favorable gender ratio in both residents and visitors. It really only runs from Lafayette-Bowery and Houston-Broome. Finding a place towards the middle would be tough so I'd grab a short-term rental at one of the new condo/rental buildings on Bowery with a terrace. That's your best value...just get something high enough up because it's a loud fucking street. All depends on what you want to spend.

Are you usually staying in hotels in SoHo?

If you decide to live further out what are the better neighborhoods? Brooklyn? As I've said I would have a lot of free time so I don't mind cruising around on public transport.

I also know Brooklyn and Long Island City really well...

Need more info...will you be working at all? Or need to get to some particular location regularly?

Preference in age group and group type?

You will also lose bangs if you're trying to pull ass from Manhattan to an outer borough.

I'll just be working for an hour or two a day from my apartment or coffee shop, I don't need to be anywhere.

I usually get on well with mid 20's crowd to mid 30's.

If you really want to ball it out in Brooklyn stay at King & Grove. http://www.kingandgrove.com/NYC-Hotels/H...lliamsburg Might get away with $5000-5500 per month.

Realistically I would recommend Williamsburg and Carroll Gardens / Boerum Hill. I can't stand hipsters but there is still a ton to do there (McCarren Park, the new waterfront parks, awesome restaurants, bars, galleries). Basically if a restaurant opens downtown Manhattan and is successful they open their 2nd location in BBurg. I believe it has the most galleries outside of West Chelsea. Extremely easy transportation along the L-line directly connecting you to the meatpacking at 8th Avenue, Union Square, and the East Village at 1st and 3rd Avenues. Even if you're staying 4-5 stops in your commute will still be short. This will not be true after 1am and on weekends though. Airbnb has plenty of opportunities here. 1) Do not stay on Bedford Avenue 2) Do not book a place further than Montrose (5th stop into BBurg)...ideally further west 3) if past the Bedford stop try to keep it 2-3 blocks max from the L-train.

Carroll Gardens and Boerum Hill can also be a lot of fun (especially down Smith Street). More mature than Williamsburg although there will still be hipster type elements. You get easy access to DUMBO and the Brooklyn Promenade. Gallery game opportunities in DUMBO. Both are smallish, low-rise neighborhoods. Smith Street will provide most of your entertainment. Mostly between Union and Bergen. Airbnb also offering a variety of opportunities. Very residential so little in the way of hotels.

I would not recommend downtown Brooklyn although I'm sure you're seeing a lot of hotels, etc there.

G - check out AirBnB, plenty of decent apartments to stay in. If staying for a while you can negotiate on prices too.

Sorry was directed to Jalhouse...should have quoted

Check 145Mulberry.com It's about 1.5-2 blocks off where you want to be but the prices for what you get are best value hands down. Nothing in the Bowery buildings right now. As I'm sure you know you'll have to book these places way in advance because the demand is outrageous. The penthouses at 145 Mulberry have terraces...you should be ruling lower Manhattan in a week. 1BR (650-700sqft) should go for $4000-5000 and 2BR in the $6500 range (and up of course...depends on what floor). Some have private balconies. Outdoor space in NYC is clutch...unlike BsAs where everyone has a balcony...keep this in mind.

Only problem is you're in the middle of Little Italy tourist hell. Still, it's an unbeatable value, and, again, only 1.5-2 blocks from everywhere you want to be. I lived in a loft on Grand between Mott/Mulberry for two years and got to know the neighborhood and old school Italians really well.

Edit...should also be able to get those Mulberry apartments no-fee. The furnishings and finishes are certainly not top notch but they're passable enough. A lot of the airbnb apartments are pretty brutal on that front.

That's one of the only dedicated buildings to short-term rentals of quality down there. There's a few others but they're shit and cost nearly as much.

Most everything else will be a one off...someone in a really nice rental subletting for a month or two. Or someone in a co-op or condo that allows terms less than 12 months (large majority do not). If I see something cool I'll pass it along.

I'm pretty certain those are only by month. Airbnb is probably the only reliable source for shorter terms.

NYC has become a COCK FESTIVAL

So a lot of ppl are saying NYC is NOT a cock festival, but at the same time saying that the Meatpacking district sucks cause it's all rich guys and chicks with bitch shields, or that East Village sucks cause its all the cock festival bars.

So why can't a SINGLE person name a SINGLE bar/lounge/club in NYC that is not a cock festival? Please provide some examples. I just moved back here and honestly I've been to at least 30 places in the W. Village, E. Village, Brooklyn, and elsewhere and it just seems all the same shit to me.

I still get numbers, etc but it is not nearly as good as in other cities. And it's not just the ratio, some places have actually had more girls than guys. It's also the way girls in NYC behave. They are much more likely to have bitch shields than girls in the South or California from what I've seen. I've never meet so many insufferable bitches in one city before.

Honestly, if a guy has his shit together i.e. he's a doctor, banker, lawyer, I really think he'd do better in most other large cities in the USA. In NYC being relatively well off like that is nothing cause there are hedge fund dudes or trust fund babies who are way above you.

What do you think you bring to the table or why should these women be attracted to you? Do you have what they want? Do you know what they want? Why are other guys happily getting laid in NYC and your vision is tainted? NYC has never been an easy place, which is why they say "only the strong survive."

Two venues I've been hitting lately: Cafe Select and Acme. Definitely not cock fests but you need to be somewhat down with the fashion / hipster scene there. Not aggressively so, but don't rock up in khakis and a polo.
