Bullshit. Maybe you are thinking of Faraday, Mendel, or inventors like Edison and the Wright brothers. What about:

1.Sir Isaac Newton. Trinity College, Cambridge
2.Louis Pasteur. École Normale Supérieure
3.Galileo. University of Pisa
4.Marie Curie. Floating University,
5.Albert Einstein. Zurich Polytechnic
6.Charles Darwin. University of Edinburgh
7.Emil Fisher. University of Bonn
8.Nikola Tesla. Austrian Polytechnic
10.Aristotle. Plato's Academy

In terms of US schools, is becoming less so everyday. It has gotten too easy to tell if:
a) The school is legit.
b) You actually got a degree there.

In addition, it is becoming more common practice for the HR departments to actually check whether or not you received a valid degree.

There are still going to be people who get away with faking, but it is getting increasingly more likely that you will get caught. For me it just isn't worth the risk/effort to fake it. Just find the quickest/lowest cost option and knock out that degree.

The "Top 10 Greatest Scientists" list is just someone's opinion.

Almost all of those men's great discoveries happened outside the university in their free time. Einstein failed grade school but taught himself algebra in his time off because he enjoyed it. Tesla had his own laboratory. Galileo was funded by the wealthy Medici family. Darwin made his great ideas on evolution on his HMS Beagle in the Galapagos Islands. Louis Pasteur invented pasteurization during his independent study in the food industry. Take away the university and give these people the resources and what they need and they'll succeed.

You don't need anyone's permission to succeed.

Also, those were back when universities actually taught people how to think. The quality of schools has drastically spiraled downward since then. I started a thread on the real history of American education and what it's main goals were here: http://www.rooshvforum.network/thread-11635.html

4 out of the top 5 richest Americans never finished college with the exception of Warren Buffet who only went to satisfy his parents' wishes.

There's an entire website called The College Dropouts Hall of Fame:

You don't have to go to college to be a success. Even if you go for awhile, you don't have to graduate to be a success. Here are just a few of the people who have become famous and/or successful without graduating from college and/or high school.

A survey conducted by Bloomberg in 2010 show that the school of hard knocks was the number one source (tied with the University of California) for CEOs of S&P 500 companies. Harvard was the #3 source (along with the universities of Texas, Missouri, and Wisconsin). The school of hard knocks features CEOs who never graduated from college.

BTW, I'm not advocating people should or should not go to college. I'm not giving advice. Everyone needs to think for himself and make what they think is the right decision after critical and careful thought. People deserve an answer on why they should go to college or university before they take out thousands of dollars in loans and spend 5 years of their lives (because that's how long it usually takes now).
