Tuthmosis has done it yet again

I recall reading somewhere, though I don't remember where, that long hair in females of the species likely evolved in parallel with our development as a social animal. This hypothesis considers the social and familial bonding that occurs among primates engaged in mutual grooming, and extrapolates from there. It seemed reasonable at the time I read it; if I find the source while this thread is alive, I'll post it.
What is an appropriate hairstyle for men seems to be much more culturally influenced, which, in my opinion, supports the idea above. Since a man's hair does not serve the same biological, family-bonding function as a woman's, males have been able to use hairstyles to display value, or to indicate class (for example, the story of Samson, whose hair was kept uncut as an indication that he was a Nazirite). Of course status indicators and cultural norms vary by time and place, which we should then also expect to be true of men's hairstyles, which is indeed the case.

I thought we kept our hair short so it wouldn't get caught on brambles while running after game.
Women never needed to do that, so that's what we were normalized to during our evolution.
So a woman with short hair = huntress = no need to provide for her.
I might just be pulling a feminista and speaking out of my ass, of course.

If you officially respond via an ROK editor's post, be sure to include a pic like this:

I wish I remember where I read it but a huge part of the reason women chop off all of their hair is so that they can prove to themselves (and everyone around them) that they *still* are the hot shit without the hair.

The difference is stunning. She loses four or five points by chopping off her hair.
I watched that movie relatively recently with a girl after watching the mask and we both commented about the same thing.
There's no real comparison, I was dreadfully disappointed by how much plainer she looked when compared to her in the mask.
I like how her short hair accentuates her horsey teeth.
