That's good to know thanks for the answer
The owner just wanted to rent her studio apt for a month or two so I offered $500/PM and she accepted. If things will work out there might stay as long as full year.

also if anyone wants to hang out shoot me a msg [Image: smile.gif]

Assuming that the apartment is reasonably good and furnished I think that you made a good deal considering that it's short term and presumably including all utilities.

As always and as you probably know it's always a good idea to at least have the keys in your hand and have had a look at the apartment before paying, so you don't deal with anyone who will just take your money and actually don't have the apartment.

I got it through airbnb. Will pay her in cash once i'm in the apartment and make a short contract that she received the money for 1 month in the apartment.

I think I am gonna have to do it the hard way and personally knock on the doors of real estate agents for a long-term lease.

Too late for me to negotiate anything on Airbnb for a month+ (flying on Sunday). My first 7-days in the private room of a hostel will fuck up my logistics though.

Is the hostel in a bad location or doesn't allow guests or why is it that bad?

Staying for a week will obviously give you an opportunity to feel for yourself where in the city to live, not having to entirely rely on the advice of others who might not fully share your own taste.

The hostel is right off Boráros tér. I don't know about their guest policy but I think my 1st week will be a dud since I'll be running around looking for an apartment, opening a bank account, buying furnishings, etc...so probably some day game or Tinder dates but no bangs. Not getting my hopes up.

As for the local rental market what can one get for $400 usd/mth in Budapest? Is that enough to get a 1-bedroom partly-furnished apt near the nightlife district or do I have to go higher?

I was looking at this and this was absolutely eye-watering for me...I'd be saving much more of my monthly income in Bdpst

For 400 usd a month including utilities you can definately get a furnished apartment in a better location than your hostel. I don't know for a prime location, 500 usd including utilities maybe? Especially when furnished, I think that the quality can vary greatly between apartments.

On a side note, you really dig into this 110 percent. Maybe that's good but have you ever been to Budapest? I guess it would be different if you had a stint at a company located there but you are location independent. Until you really know for sure that you really want to spend a whole year there and not try out somewhere else in Europe for some time I would not recommend to sign any long term lease that can't be terminated, buying any expensive furniture etc. Even if you find Budapest great wouldn't it be a shame to not try out somewhere else in Europe, especially in the summer? Most people go on vacation for a week or so because they can't leave home for much longer while you make yourself stuck somewhere even if you don't have to.

Sorry about the negative post, now I've said it like a disclaimer. I just want to bring up the negatives as well so you get a better overall picture. Budapest isn't a well visited tourist city for nothing and I am sure that you will enjoy Budapest. [Image: smile.gif]

That is very good to hear. So I'll be paying less than 1/3 of the rent in Vancouver including utilities.

I generally do well across ethnicities and had good experiences with Hungarian girls in Montreal & London but I can see that the reality could be different in Budapest since I'll feel out of my element.

I'll give it till the Summer time at least. Probably save up for Russia in the Summer and take language courses in Moscow or something as a reward for saving a lot of cash in Budapest. Didn`t plan that far ahead just yet.

Had a date with an 18 year old college girl who spent the first half of the date telling me how much better, and smarter Hungary and Hungarians are. Also how she hated America, and Americans though she admitted she didnt actually know any or ever visited the place..... All I could think of is how I'm going to grudge fuck her for the good ole' US of A, this I consider my patriotic duty as an American.

Ah, i'm not exactly the person whos too much into fancy venues, but this apartment is my only option anyway. Is it easy to walk to the places you mentioned in the thread from mine by foot?

being in a fancy area means the supermarkets gonna be more expensive there?
thanks for your help man

Mill around your neighborhood and ask pretty girls: "Is there a good Supermarket around here?"

Then mention how where you are from, the prices in Supermarkets will vary from neighborhood to neighborhood along with the quality of the merchandise. Regale her with stories of Supermarkets of your homeland and the unique bargaining culture of Israel.

Casually drop your local resident status by saying how you like your new fancy neighborhood but complain how it is a bit of a trek to places where the common proletariats congregate for cheaply priced goods & services.

If she is a true Hungarian, she'll probably complain about something else that got her panties in a bind earlier in the week and then you guys can eventually build rapport. Rinse & repeat.

It's like you just know my game plan to a tee, as if your my brother from an asain mother .... I just banged a Ginger last night whom I met at the grocery store last week, I even complained how hard it is to buy fish in this pork loving country when we first met. Well played old man well played. I've also found you have to be really indîfferent with Hungarian women, seems to annoy them and they actually turn their game up a notch.

I'm gonna share my first ever fight story in Budapest haha, Had to Fight some muscle head security guard near Fröccsterasz last night. Im peeing on a building not harming or indecently exposing myself to anyone, then here comes Mr. Top Flight Security. He comes over talking shit in Hungarian then he decides to kick my beer over and push me while my dick's still out haha. I get myself together then push him back then turn to walk away. As I'm turning I receive a blow that grazes my cheek, so I counter with a Right a send him stumbling (was rather funny because it wasnt really a strong right and he was pretty big).

I'm a big guy 6'2 200lbs military background so I dont know what he expected to happen haha. So after he stumbles, he tries to wrestle me to which I throw him down and procede to give him two more blows to the face. After this, two other security guards grab me from behind and put me in a full nelson...yet they dont grab the other guy (as usual). So he tries to still swing at me and miss. Reminds me of this

http://youtu.be/5Uzu58N-Sso

By that time my boys had come to grab the other guy while I ran (cant be gettin arrested). Anyone who has met me knows I'm a peaceful guy who just likes to have fun with no trouble. This was actually my first fist fight since 10th grade in high school.

I landed in Budapest last night. Contrary to my modest expectations, there were no lines of thirsty Hungarian girls waiting to take me home to fuck my brains out. Disappointed, I went to sleep hoping that my search for Poosy Paradise would bear fruit the following day.

I woke up and sprayed puffs of Axe cologne on my crotch area. Even though I stood at a busy intersection with my Canadian passport held up high, no pretty Hungarian girls got on their knees to pull my pants down and go at it.

This Poosy mission has been a complete failure....gonna get a SIM card, a bank account at OTP, and get around to finding an apartment...Hopefully that will change things for the better. I am up for meeting up this Saturday if anyone is free.

easily 1k a month..and youll probably have a little extra

Are you serious? 800$ or 1000$ a month? . I am gonna try to break down the prices. If we go with that logic even with out rent/bills .. u take away the monthly pass metro which is 10500 ft/ month. Phone like 5000ft/ month that would leave you with around 215 000 ft month which means 7150 Ft /day

Restaurant prices downtown:
Normal restaurant like Cafe Kor= Appetizer + cheapest main dish + diet coke = 5000 ft
Subway = 1 Foot long + coke= 2000ft
Very cheap restaurant like humus bar downtown = 2000 ft meal
MacDonald around that too

Clubs
Entrance to kraft or otkert= 1000ft /2000ft
Black label= 1500 ft / Vodka + ...= 1400
Martini bianco =1000

Taxi few kilo meters= 1500- 2000

Spa entrance szeychini= 3600 ft

Taxi from airport to downtown is 7000ft

Haircut for man= 3000-4000

Cheap Nike short= 7000 ft / Gap tshirt= 5000ft/ gant polo =17000ft.

Erotic massage = 15000 ft

This is where you are vastily wrong and I'm gonna make it painfully obvious
Even an expat in the city doesn't do things like this on a regular basis...maybe these are the prices you would pay if you are planning to do an extremely short trip in Budapest. and no be anywhere near the actually culture

Youre paying 20 dollars for a a meal? In Budapest... that is ridiculous.. when I could easily find place swhere I could pay the same price for 2 Meals of the same caliber

Mcdonalds and Subway are damn near considered high quality places in Europe.. they barely have a dollar menu and are expensive beyond reason.
Why the hell would you move to a place like Budapest only to shelter yourself in Mcdonalds.
Subway is overpriced as shit.. damn near twice the price as Subway in America..and thats before you even get a drink.

I can walk down the block even in the "tourist" parts and find a full hungarian meal for the same price as this.

If you are gonna live in the city...just cook your own shit.. its not hard... you rent an apartment with a kitchen, right?
use the damn thing

Clubs
Kraft and Otkert are not places that you go on a daily basis.
I drink vodka and other spirits at my house..and drink beer at those places. halfway through the night.. I switch to drinking tonic water, so I can actually function first thing in the morning.
I've met forum members with much more money than me..that don't drink much.

even then... you can meet quality pussy by walking down to a park near you and chatting up some girls 17-25.
have a date where you buy 2 bottles of wine for like 10 dollars max...walk her to the top of gellert and have a great night.

Taxis
Where the fuck are you traveling in Budapest?
The downtown area from Margaret bridge to Szabadsag is like a 35 minute walk. 40 at a slow place.
If youre trying to have good logistics..you will be probably be living near the center of the city and not on the outskirts.
Kraft.Otkert,BOB are easy 15 minutes walk from me.. it barely took me 12 minutes in light rain
If you live in the city.. no place should be more than 20 minutes walk.
And Ive never had one girl have a problem with walking from the club back to my place.
I walked with a hungarian girl from Instant.. to Bajza Ucta..easily a 20 minute walk while drink and her wearing heels.
Taxis are pretty useless in the city.

do you take Taxis in the day also? because paying 2khuf for a ride..even once a week is overpriced.. when you can get a monthly transportation ticket for 9.5khuf
I chose not to even renew mine..because if i really want to get somewhere.. i can pay 350huf for a ticket..and not 1000huf

If youre really crafty.. you give one the girls you know that is a student 4k huf and have get a student ticket.
they take down your id number when you get a month ticket..as if it would be matched to you.
i kept my month pass in the clear slot of my wallet and never took it out once to prove it was actually mine
Spa
The spa..again..not a think you do every day.
Even when I was making money...I wouldnt even be doing things like that in my hometown.
Spa is a ever now and then thing.
Ive done the tourist shit a bunch in the city..Spa, Zoo, Escape room.. I even got a thai massage this month
I host couch surfers every now and then..So I end up spending extra money if Im hanging with them

Taxi from airport
HAAAAA you paid 7000huf for that?
Are you kidding me? I came to budapest with 3 pieces of luggage.
And you know what I did?
I made 700huf aka 2 tickets.
1 ticket from the airport to Kopanya Kispest and 1 ticket into the city. each ticke cost 350huf
Am i simply surviving in budapest because i walked a kilometer to my apartment with a couple bags of luggage?
am I simply surviving in budapest because I wake up earlier to counteract the extra 30 minutes that it would take me to get to the airport as opposed to taking a taxi?

Haircut
I won't argue on haircut.. both my friend(white) and I go to a small nigerian barbershop and we pay 2500 for a haircut(including tip)
It doesn't seem like many people really need to get a haircut once a week.
our barber cuts hair, trims bear and all that for what we pay

[bClothes[/b]
We all know clothes in europe are more expensive than america.
but I would never be caught in a Gap for any reason
Ive bought button shirts for 2500huf easily.. and i dress extremely well.
maybe im not walking around in a blazer all day.
but if you look around and realize that their are guys at Kraft wearing shorts and sneakers.
Im wearing jeans and dress shoes...thinking im gonna show up underdressed..and I look better than 80 percent of the people there already

Erotic massage.. Im not even gonna comment on that.

For the purpose of this post.. I went and checked my bank statements.
I dont keep receipts.. I just withdraw money from an ATM and then pay everything in cash.

in 31 day period I have spent roughly 985 dollars in Hungary alone.
This includes my portion of rent in a location downtown central to nightlife, along with going out to eat every now and then and going to the zoo, spa, massage.
ive even done a couple paid tours in the city just so i could learn some extra history
i also have a gym membership which i pay nearly 60USD for,

Now If I factor in that I spent a weekend in Brno..and add my bank statements from there..then i spent roughly
1077
dollars
In this month.. ive managed 6 bangs. 2 of those girls being regulars in my rotation.
I think Im doing pretty well for myself and living extremely comfortable.( I dont want to include pictures of my apartment..but many vouched for members have seen pictures ive sent) and im in no way living in a shitty apartment.
On an extra 500 dollars a month..holy shit... maybe i would get fat and go to mcdonalds and take taxis places instead of actually walking around the city and getting to know my surroundings

Can you please tell me there the Nigerian barbershop is? As a brotha, I have found that living outside of W.Europe is a hassle for my hair. I like to keep my fade skin tight and get it cut up to 2x a week.

Thanks.

I'm actually big on Euro nightlife. I thouroughly enjoyed drinking at a relatively "young" age by American standards all over Europe and not to mention partying is easier too. What kind of idea of the rave and music festival scene do you have? Tickets, overall pleasure derived, etc.

The nightlife of Budapest can be really great.. this is a big student city where everything is always open late, and the bar culture here really stands out. I'm not much interested in clubs and in my experience it's not a strong point of Budapest.. but the bar life is very good. Your essentially within walking distance of everything.. unless you want to head to the Buda side, but the tram 4/6 is 24/7 and it runs right along the 7th District so it's easy to access.

I will probably return in a few years, there's something about this city.

I personally don't know about any big underground rave scene in Budapest.
But music festivals are pretty big.
Budapest during the summer pretty much had ongoing music shows around the city and in the part.

Then of course you have the massive week long edm festival. Called balaton sound.
Compared to anything in America..it's extremely cheap and has great artist.
I went this year and had a blast.
There also the bonus festival and b my lake.
That I hear are worth it.But they ate smaller venue.
Then of course sziget will fill every musical need that have.

A lot of bars are moving towards electronic music.
But corvinteto is a specific one that had dj come.they often have nights for specific genres like drum and bass or minimalist house
