My Life in Budapest- Sourcecode's Budapest Thread

As a lot of people have slowly found out. I decided to take an extended stay of 3 months in Budapest.
I've been giving rave reviews of Budapest to everyone I know, and finally decide to move here for a couple months and see what kind of trouble I could get into.

Hopefully I get the time to make constant updates. On day to day life.
To start off.. I have no job here. I'm living solely on saving. Aka I do nothing during the day, but brainstorm ideas to start a sort of business do "freelance" work for a couple dollars here and there.

This is just stream of conscience.. Im not really getting anywhere specific here....
But ill do my best to answer anywhere questions from the viewpoint of a young Black American, living in Budapest

Ill start with the WHY.
Why did I come here?
2 years ago I planned to visit Austria.. but the plane ticket from where I was in Europe to Budapest was less than 20 dollars thanks to Ryanair. I planned to stay in Budapest a couple days and head to Vienna and travel around Austria.
A friend and I skipped the hostel and Couchsurfing route and rented apartment on Airbnb in a great location for pennies.
We spent 3 days in Budapest exploring the city and bar hopping with great success. I fell in love with how inexpensive the city was.. and how much friendlier and interesting it was compared to the western European countries ( Especially Germany) I had been to.

For the next couple years I researched cost of living and such in the city and found it was almost half that of my city back home.
Eventually I had a big block of time ( three months) and decided I would set up shop in Budapest.
I found a friend that had been to Budapest a year after me (after my recommendation) and we decided to find a great apartment and just leave the States for a while. At the cost of burning a bit of our long earned savings...and not going straight into the job world. We are now here.

My impressions of Budapest...is that the city is awesome. They summers are warm/hot..people are always in the city.
Its just big enough that its possible to find a new place ever night for a long time... but its not big enough to get lost in the city. Its also small enough that you can become a familiar at places you frequent.
Budapest gets a fair amount of tourist..But luckily they aren't asshole tourist that shit in the streets.

I live on a busy street that is often filled with hostel goers...but also many Hungarians.

Public transportation is cheap and extremely on time.

People speak English at a percentage that makes it extremely manageable to live without knowing anything more than basic Hungarian phrases like yes, no thanks you..ect

And when I have a hard time understanding Hungarian...its not hard to make a local friend and have someone help you out

Hungarians are extremely welcoming on the outside.
Race doesn't seem to be a problem.. Ive found quite a few African living decently in the city. Even a couple small businesses.
In some countries I have been to.African minorities seem almost sketchy in their lifestyles.. but here.. I even see mixed couples walking though the city(if albeit rarely)
From what I've learned..Hungarians seem extremely curious about black people.
Many of my Hungarians friends..both guys and girls...joke that i'll have no trouble finding a wife here.. every other girl wants "cappuccino" babies.

I can't say this is all hype.. I do extremely well with women here...but this is on top of my already great game.

Friendly and genuine..but what I've come to recognize.. is that Hungarians view complaining as a past time.
It seems like every facet of life can be complained about and Hungarians are often extremely stubborn.

Ive noticed this across the bored that Hungarians..once annoyed by something to the smallest bit...will let it build up and complain for the rest of the week about it.

Where I thought a lot of Hungarians were just making small talk that I didn't understand( not speaking the language) Hungarians often make a lot of back handed compliments. But are self aware of their bitchiness.

Im not generalizing all Hungarians..cause I've met quite a few down to earth ones.... but they have told me some of the comments they hear when people don't realize they speak Hungarian.

Social circles play a big role in Hungarian society it seems.
In America..you can meet people quickly and superficially and whisk them off quickly.
Hungarians seem to care little more of what people think of them and women stay in their groups much tighter than back home.

Their is a clear tier system.
If you aren't in the circle... you may never be let in fully.
You can get in temporarily but you might not get full benefits... in this sense.. it seems a little hard to make friends because as friendly as Hungarians are.. often I think they are a little suspicious of foreigners.

This isn't without reason though..
Historically.. Hungarians have been ran through by many different empires..and even now.
So many tourist roll in an out of Budapest, that girls are extremely suspect to dating a non hungarian.
People are extremely surprised and confused to learn that Im living here... because most young hungarians have dreams of getting out.

There is no gym culture here.
Gyms are extremely expensive...with the average hungarian wage... gyms can be upwards of 15 percent of a person income.

You can get gym memberships in america for average 30 dollars a month and in lots of places cheaper.
Gym memberships in Budapest are 50+ a month. and anything cheaper puts strict limitations on your gym time.
The cheapest gym was about 25 dollars a month.. but i could only go before 3pm.
Which isnt to horrible.. get your morning reps in... but for anyone that goes to work.. you wont be able to go to the gym.
And conssidering places like LA fitness, often have state of the art weight rooms and machines.. with saunas, pools and hot tubs for 30 dollars a month.

I feel like im getting ripped off.. on top of that.. so many gyms looks like whole in the wall basement with no AC.
Im current paying 50 dollars a month for a place.. simply because they have equipment that looks like it can support weight.
But the gym is only about the size of my Average house..back home

The people that go to gyms are either making some decent catch...really dedicated...or porn stars.

The above ground gyms have lots of hot girls doing light cardio or working out with trainers.
I cant fathom why a 20s girl really needs a trainer..let alone who is paying her upwards of 100 dollar a month membership?

Last thing I have to say?
Why is Bacon so expensive?
I might not be looking so hard.. but Why is good bacon like 6 dollars a pack

another portion of by datasheet can be found on my blogGround Review of Budapest

or littered in the Budapest nightlift datasheet

I did some math.
I have been here about a week. it will be my first full month in budapest. without leaving the country.

after paying rent..I have been to A big music festival (Balaton sound)
Bought new clothes, basic stuff for my apartment. along with groceries.
Topped off with going out about 3 nights a week.
plus the money in my wallet.. I have spent 1034 dollars.

If I hadnt gone to this music festival, or bought clothes+ lots of stuff i dnt need..
I probably would only spend about 800.. and be able to go out 3 nights a week.

Im thinking about taking pictures of menus at bars and restaurants I go to also so people can see the prices im paying for stuff.
Would people be interested in that?

Good stuff man! Will be following this with great interest.
How is the talent in the ground? And how approachable and friendly are they?
How much are you paying for your apart?

What would you say is a good monthly budget to shoot for to have a nice studi or 1 bedroom fully furnished part with fast wifi in a good part of town, within walking distance to Restos, bars and clubs?

Thanks man!

Questions-
1-How do the girls look (big tits, skinny, butterfaces, mainly blonde, etc.) and what kind of game do they respond to (funny clown, direct, social circle, etc.)?

2-
Can you breakdown monthly expenses-
$400 food
$750 rent (utilities incld)
$400 dates and drinking
$100 cell and internet
$250 taxis and metro pass
$200 health coverage
$250 entertainment (movies, mp3s, netflix, thermal bath visit, etc.)
$150 clothing

Budapest has lower cost of housing than even low Poland [cities] and lower Prague. It has often figured into my travel calculus, despite being an overlooked destination, here.

Check out expatistan
http://www.expatistan.com/cost-of-living
(Currently, Prague and Budapest look similar in total costs. But check out the cost breakdown to be sure you can get what you want - housing is still cheaper in Budapest.)

In the later 90s, Budapest became Europe's porn central - reknown for its low cost production, like using city locales, and women from the farms looking for work and money - and thus easier to turn kinky (ie, anal and group sex). And featuring natural tits in an era where they were in short supply.

So check out Euro-porn, perhaps - or else a list of great Hungarian beauty queens like here http://www.beauty-around.com/en/tops/ite...gary-women

They may also feature poor teeth, like Angel Hott - a recent Hungarian porn star.

Most people say that Hungarian's are attractive in the general central European ways - slim, leggy, dramatic and sometimes sharp facial features - but not (at all) as attractive as Czech's or Slovak's - and certainly not as blonde.

I maybe biased, but I'm of Austro-Hungarian extraction myself. The old Empire has its many points of talent - and Hungarian is simply another Slavic-like flavor (although the Magyar's are linguistically distinct, closer to Finnish or a Baltic tongue). And there is a lot to like.

SC can confirm this, but my sense is that the locals are very keen on social proof and language is also a barrier to outsiders enjoying their social comfort zone.

Hungarian is renowned as among the most difficult languages - after Chinese and Japanese. However, some have told me that it is easier to learn than German - although certainly less useful than any Central European language.

I've met only a couple Hungarian women in my life and none of them were anything to write home about looks-wise. I'm curious too about what a "cute" as in 5-7ish girl looks like in Hungary and how numerous they are.

Wikipedia has a brief and interesting entry on pornography in Hungary. Therefore, I present a tidbit of history on Hungarian porn - or, as my British-speaking Dutch GF would more colorfully say it, **titbit**:

After the fall of communism in 1989, a
Quote:Quote:

post-communist constitution was introduced with no ban on pornography, and this industry presented a welcome economic opportunity. The nation's capital of Budapest in particular offered a favourable combination of "camera-compatible women, laissez-faire government regulation, fin-de-siècle scenery, and low production costs."

The venture was highly successful, and Hungary soon became one of the world's leading manufacturers of pornography. In the popular imagination, the country has become closely associated with pornography, and the satirical newspaper The Onion in 2007 jokingly asserted that 70% of the country's population was involved in the industry.

Though not so extreme, the industry is certainly central to Hungarian society and economy, relative to other countries. By 2005, 300 of the 1,200 pornographic films produced in Europe were of Hungarian origin.[5] In 2008, the industry generated around € 636 million a year, making up around 0.5% of the country's GDP.

So, maybe Hungarian porn is more than just a tad, er, titbit, important?

I would bet that you could easily find a 1 bedroom with wifi an utilities for about 200 dollars a month.
Possible cheaper.
I am living wit a friend in an apartment thats about 500sq feet.
We are paying 550 euro a month 740USD

So we are splitting it 370.
That includes utilities and high speed internet.
We also live in the middle of the ruin bar night life area. which means, every night of the week the street is busy.. it only takes 30 seconds to walk from my building door to some of the most popular bars in the city.

Also..we are paying the "tourist" price.

You have to understand that Hungarians are stupid either.. they know how much money foreigners have to spend.
I would bet that our apartment could actually be rented for 550-600USD
But because we are paying by month and not on a 6-12 month lease. we are paying a little more.

But I have also met people that are bad negotiators paying 500eur/670 for 1 room apartments.

You notice how im using euro as payment

Hungarians know that their money doesnt have a great exchange rate.
Often they ask for payment in Euro because the euro is a better currency.. I don't know for sure.. but often I think they just hold onto the euro till a more favorable rate hits.. then cash out my rent money

Currently I don't find Hungarians to be massive in the tit department. But I don't see any standard.
Ive been with quite a few Hungarian girls now.
Its funny that I still haven't found a really standard Hungarian tit size.

Hungarians also arent all skinny. The amount of thin girls Is great.. most girls are thin.. as they should be.
But its not hard at all to find some thick Hungarians.
Not fat at all.. fat hungarians in budapest are rare.
Im talking built solid girls

Ive described Hungarians like this before..but ill try to do it for the thread

Average hungarian girl is a little tan.. I wouldnt put her at caramel but a shade before it.
About 5'5
B cup tits.
Her torso will probably be longer than her legs.
Ive noticed this across the board that hungarians dont seem to have very long legs.
They have short legs that come into thick meaty asses.

I see a lot of girls walk around with shorts given its summer.. and I rarely cellulite.
They just have relatively short powerful legs.
Like a short race horse.

Pest. the right side of the rive is big.. but small enought that you can walk across the downtown area in less than an hour.
Everyone uses metro and trams..but alot of people walk.
I havent decided if the strong legs are natural or all from walking

Another Hungarian feature that Ive pointed out specifically is the jaw line

While some countries have small really thin cut jaw lines.
I find hungarians have wide thick jaws.
High wide cheek bones.

Ill use pictures right out of the link given above.. because they are accurate
[Image: 15.eniko_mihalik-fit.jpg]
[Image: 10.Claudia%20KozmaMiss%20International_2012.jpg]

Now of course..the average hungarian girl doesnt look like this.
But focus on the wide boxy jawline and high cheeks.

The range of color in Hungary is wide also.
Ive banged blond hungarian girls all the way up to hungarian girls that are a few shades lighter than say..and indian.

Hungarians like to say they are their own people.
But again history says..they they have been influenced by Celts, Romans, Slavs..Ottomans.. and the Habssburgs.
Everyone has tossed a little of their spunk into Hungary at some point...So I think hungary has much more variety than say..Poland..where everyone has a standard slavic look

Rent 370USD Includes utilities, high speed internet, Prime location
Cell 21USD/5000huf a month. I use Vodafone pay as you go.
100 anytime minutes/text but 1gig of data.
Everyone here uses Whatsapp.. So 1 gig of data is more than enough.
I don't talk frivolously.. so 100 minutes is enough.. and I have extra credit on my account
Since I have wifi at home.. i dont even use my data much. I can plan everything from my phone
Metro pass 42USD If you can cheat the system and get a student pass..its a qquarter the price.
but the passes works for all public transportation.

there is no need to take a taxi..
not only have i heard tourist get scammed from them...but if you cant suck it up and walk 30 minutes max..average ten minutes to somewhere in the city.
..i dont know what to say to you
Healthcare/clothes I don't have Hungarian insurance. so i dont know the cost..but i cant image its to much.
Clothes wise.
In europe clothes are expensive all together.
I don't know if i can accurately judge clothes lots of stores were way out of what i wanted to pay. I don't shop at walmart or shit stores in america.
American malls are just much cheaper
I bought clothes at a C&A in the mall
5 dollars for a quality vneck
17 dollars for a high quality button up shirt

Luckily i bought most of clothes before I came over..and i specifically buy so i can have a slightly european style and not look like a tourist

entertainment-dates

The baths aren't a regular thing.
My entertainment is going out to bars and clubs
I didnt keep the last receipt where I bought alcohol from the store.
But Alcohol is a little cheaper than in the states...but also the quality isnt always great.
I ususally pregame anyway before going out.

one of the most expensive bars I troll cost 550huf for a beer which is 2.40USD a half liter.

I usually get one beer here..and troll around. usually I can find some drunk people to buy me drinks.
2.50 for a beer is expensive to me.. as I can got to a bar 1 minute away and get the same beer for 1.50

In the stores you can buy beer as cheap a .60 cents a bottle/can for a half liter

Cocktail prices usually start at 1000huf/4.50us as far as 1500huf/ 6.50USD
but thee cocktails ive had at that price are really long drinks.. 2 straws
i equivlate the amount of straws for how many people are suppose to drink it.. not how fast you drink it.

Food outside of home is pretty cheap also.
There are many places in the city.. even tourist places where you can get full for 4USD or less.
There are Cafe style buffets in the city for 6USD where you can gorge yourself of food after you come out of the gym.

Hungarian girls..at last the ones I meet..don't seem "poor"
Cost of living is low.. but when i go on date.. the girls tend to by their own stuff.. after i offer the first drink.
At least one date insisted that she buy me a drink.. i didn't let her.. but she bought me dinner the next night and then cooked for me the following.

Theirs also lots of parks in budapest..including a big one near Deak (local forum members tipped me off about this place)
Where young people hang out.
If i don't go their to run game...i have dates meet me their and I bring a bottle of wine.

Im no wine aficionado....but girls have complimented my 1.50USD bottles of wine.
The average girl can stumble a little on half a bottle of wine...so we often drink a little.. then walk back to my apartment..which is conveniently located near lots of bars also.

I would have to say my most expensive date out of now 11 bangs..probably cost me about ten dollars.

the cheapest being a tinder match where all i gave her was a glass of orange juice

Ill see what I can do taking pictures..
I don't know how i can pull of quality pictures without being bold about it...because i never carry my camera and the one on my cellphone doesnt take great picures ever since i cracked the screen.
and i dont wanna pull facebook pictures cause..with all the girls ive ran into..i could be connected easily.

Ill just restarted my tinder.
I will post screenshots.. because unlike some places where tinder is full of hotties but the ugly girls in real life.

Tinder and OKC are extremely accurate of what I see around.
I can be unbiased and post the hungarian girls i would bang in a slump, those i would talk up to in the park..and the ones i fawn over.....because all of them can easily be found riding the metro

I visited Budapest a few months ago while I was living in Poland. I stayed only 4 nights but I gotta say, I was not impressed with the local talent, detinitely a downgrade from Wroclaw IMO. I was also surprised to see a lot of fat people, although I think most of them were gypsies (there seemed to be a lot of them, not sure if they count as "locals"). It could have been due to my short stay, but I don't think I would go back just for the girls although Budapest is certainly a beautiful and very interesting city. I didn't knew the rents were so cheap so I'm glad to hear that.

Safety?
I feel more safe walking around budapest at night that around Paris(which people hype as a great city)
I walk around during the day, evenings and early Ams by myself pretty often and have never even gotten odd looks.

Ive never really gotten and rotten looks when walking girl either.
And no girl I've been with is at all sketched out to be walking with me.
I've done some pretty "bold" things like give girls piggy back rides across the street, make out in public ect. and no odd looks.

Only once did a hungarian guy get mad at me..cause I was wearing sunglasses inside.(not sure what that was about..he probably was just drunk.

I can imagine there is a little animosity between some local guys...the ones with no game...but hungarians done seem confrontational.
I havent seen one fight since i got here late may.
The pastime of hungarians is bickering and complaining..not throwing blows

Ive said before.. but with local hungarians ive met.. they just see the bright side in my situation and wish me luck in my bang adventure

Excellent data, SC. Rich with details and perspective.

About ruin bars and meeting locals. My understanding is that this developed from World war II and the old Jewish area in District VII.

These are funky, rambling, informal and seemingly spontaneous pubs with plenty of bohemian character that have revived parts of Budapest.

Details, photos, and origins, here.

Having spent a fair amount of time in both the Czech Republic and Hungary, I would compare them thusly:

In terms of the physical appearance of women, the Czech Republic is the clear winner. The average beauty of the Czech female population is significantly higher than that of the average Hungarian female population. While Hungarians offer more physical diversity, this diversity results in a lower average. That being said, Hungary is a more interesting place. The Czech Republic is a nice country, but over the last decade or so there has been a substantial increase in the number of Western chain retail stores and restaurants, and in my observations a significant though not catastrophic uptick in obesity. The personality of the typical Czech girl is quite standard and uniform. They tend to be nice, not too unreasonable, and somewhere in between an Eastern and Western psyche. The food is mostly all the same, the people fairly interchangeable with each other, and once calibrated to the environment it leaves little mystery. It's a nice place to be for sure, but after some time it might become a bit boring, especially as globalization continues to elevate the standard of living and homogenize the culture with the rest of the world. I would say Hungary is a more complex environment. There are babes around, though not as consistently as in the Czech Republic. But I think their personalities have a bit more depth, as does the cuisine and the environment as a whole. Strictly in terms of exposure to beautiful women the Czech Republic is substantially better. But for an environment to live in for a long period of time, I think Hungary has an adequate concentration of beautiful women if you put some time in and learn some Hungarian and make some local friends, while having better food than the Czech Republic and Parisian style cafes with pleasant outdoor seating, and a more dynamic and interesting urban environment with available space and a fucked up currency. Basically Hungary is still more fucked up than the Czech Republic, and also a mix of more cultural influences and better weather. I think Hungary is charmingly dysfunctional, while the Czech Republic is bordering on becoming sterile. Hotter Czech women, but a cooler Hungarian environment.

Yea Ive been to half the places on that list.
Since I live in 7, ruin bars are all over.

Szimpla.. is loved and hated.. but its close proximity makes it easy to run a catch and release program on foreign girls looking for some fun.

The street that Szimpla is on.. Kazinczy has like 4 other ruin bars that have more locals..I honestly don't meet a lot of locals at places like Szimpla and Instant. Mexican themed.. one had Hammock all through it.
Its a pretty interesting night life set of venues.

The only problem( of course, I add to this)
But the high number of tourist coming to take advantage of cheap party cost and the popularity of some bars.. have driven the prices up at these places.
Again...Szimplas cheapest beer is 2.5USD but you can walk less than a minute to a smaller pub on the same block and get a beer for 1.5USD

This isn't really a big deal and its not noticeable to the groups of dutch and english kids converting the pound and euro.
But when you've been here for a while and know some other bars or cheaper ways to drink...you start laughing at paying 2.50-3 bucks for a beer

**Rant.
The big burly dude that works at the back beer bar at Szimpla seems eternally pissed off.
Came during the day..showing people around and he seemed mad as he poured our beers.
Another night he was also pissed at everyone at the bar.
Once I saw him make a mistake and pour an extra beer and look at the customers like it was their fault.
Lighten up bro...why do you even work here if you hate foreigners so much
