AMD went up from 18s to 27s on Friday. I sold most of it, keeping a little, and will buy more if there is a pull-back.

BB1, I also benefited from one of your picks. I bought it mainly due to the triangle it was forming when you wrote it. I stayed in the red for more than a month but at the end, I made around 50 percent. I wish I could give you another +1.

AMD increased by around 10 percent in less than a month for me, and around 5 percent from the day I wrote here. I will sell/trade a portion of it, and hold the rest as I expect that their next quarterly earnings will also be great.

I also like JEC's quarterly earnings and (long term) technicals. I own some.

I don't trade stocks, but am thinking about getting into based on this thread. I added about 8 stocks to my "Watch List" on E-Trade last night based on some recommendations here.

Two stocks, Namaste (NXXTF) and Tilray (TLRY) are up BIG today, ~9% and ~14% respectively. The marijuana, vaping etc. industries look to be pretty hot. Cheers to the guys that had these in their portfolios.

What are people buying right now?

I still think Nutanix (NTNX) is a good buy here at $51.82, even though I first recommended it on this thread in December 2017 when is was trading at $36.

It may take another quarter or two of earnings before the market wakes up to this beauty.

If any forum members have technical experience with Nutanix products/software please post your thoughts on their solutions.

Thanks for sharing BB1.

I found an interesting analysis of Nutanix and it certainly looks like it’s worth a punt. I bought a decent position.

I think your strategy of looking for newer tech companies that have products and services that developers and other users are very keen on is an excellent approach.

I can see a genuine angle with this strategy that is different from most Motley Fool/CNBC viewers.

I bought a decent stake in Zen Desk six months ago as it is a product I use in my line of work and I have seen its popularity growth. I’m up 45% on that one. I imagine they will eventually get bought out by one of the big boys.

Like you, I think I’d like to focus somewhere between 50-80% of my investable net worth in high growth (and of course risk) companies.

I’m 33 with a good income and my mortgage paid off so it makes sense to be more aggressive.

Anyone any thoughts on the Chinese BATs?

They have been pummelled lately. I have a fairly large position in each of them so I’m quite a few $ down but I’m long on them and not too concerned.

I’ve been buying a few more shares in each with all the price drops but I don’t want to overweight my portfolio with them too much...

One thing to keep in mind is that in the stock market the risk reward premia over long periods of time has been historically debunked, with less volatile stocks outperforming more volatile stocks. Obviously a great stock picker can generate way higher returns with riskier stocks as some here do. You just gotta avoid a lot of losers.

An alternative is to go mostly boring defensive stocks and stick with it but take out more risk using margin. This is kind of what I'm doing.

Zen Desk (ZEN) is a great example of the type of companies I love to invest in.

Another one is the aussie company Atlassian (TEAM) - they are on my watch list.
Their products are so good they do not have a sales team!
I am sure many of the IT guys here have used one of their products like Confluence, HipChat or Jira.

If you have some cash to invest, are you better off investing in stocks or in properties?

Personally I would go for real estate investment trusts for property as it's a lower bar, doesn't require property management and is more liquid. However real estate has been doing badly over the last few years and the best REITs have been loosing ~5% of their value.

On stocks, pretty much everything is overbought. IMO the stocks you want to buy are the ones that will be new, growing markets like 3D printing, robotics/automation, AI, VR, cyber security, self driving cars, food delivery. If you can get on the right one of these types of new markets you can make 100% or more. However, stocks are not my thing and I don't have the time to look into what FOMO stocks will bubble this year.

As a result I am mostly cash and like others in this thread waiting for the crash and then I''ll short, go all in and just sit it out.

I’m up 45% on Match.com Group also.

I bought when they dipped on news that Facebook would be launching a dating feature. I just knew that wouldn’t do anything to Match’s bottom line.

I feel that if you believe in the growth and longevity of online dating (I do, overall), then Match are where to put your $.

My domestic portfolio has done brilliantly the past 6 months, with the exception of FB which I mostly bought around the $175 range so not too bad.

However, I have about 25% of my portfolio in the BATs and they have been hammered so that’s real dragged on my performance. I’m very long on these though. They really are the blue chip behemoths of China so they are a good bet in the long run I am sure.

I'd do a combination of REIT's, Consumer Staples, Utilities & Financials.

They have under preformed the market lately and could continue to do so but if shit hits the fan I think the draw downs will be a lot less severe. Long term they have provided the same returns with less risk.

This is just my opinion but I think tech is in a bubble and it will burst or at least be hit hard by the next correction.

I bought MU (Micron) today. MU's fundamentals are great. Why is it so cheap with a P/E ratio below 5? Analysts think that supply of chips is becoming abundant, the price will fall, and hence, MU's profits will fall. However, the management states that its demand is strong, especially with the new AI etc applications. When MU released its last earnings, it beat the estimates but the stock decreased. I am pretty sure that its earnings will be great in this quarter but I am not sure how the market will react. This kind of makes it a risky buy as MU will release its quarterly earnings very soon.

Technically, MU is oversold. It is another reason to buy for me.

I started to buy SPY puts (spreads) in small amounts.

By the way historically if you believe anything in seasonality we are starting the worst period for the stock market (the second half of September).

If you have some cash might be a good time to sit on it for a couple of weeks.

RLT any stocks you recommend to buy? I won’t invest a lot of money, just want to understand how it works, I will throw some money on it and see how it goes.

I don't have a ton of U.S stocks in my portfolio as I'm in Canada. Here are some I have, I think they are decent. No guarantees on performance but there are definitely way worse stocks out there. The plan is to leave them and forget about them.

OLLI - Ollie's Bargin Outlet
CENTA - Central Garden and Pet Co.
NEOG - Neogen Corp

I'm sure other members have some good ideas too.

Tilray screams stupid bubble, low float letting it run up, plus isn't lockup period ending soon?

Maybe I'm just bitter since I sold out at ~$60 range [Image: icon_lol.gif]

TLRY is out of control right now!! Had I bought TLRY instead of CGC I would be selling everything I had, not even taking 5X profit and letting the rest ride, selling it all. Once the short squeeze is over this thing has got to crash hard.....we'll see.

I don't believe the lockup period ends til January, but don't quote me.

Some good news flow for Namaste - Im now up 99% since buying :

"Namaste Technologies Inc. (N) (frankfurt:M5BQ) (otcmkts:NXTTF) is pleased to announce its inclusion in the Horizons Medical Marijuana Life Sciences ETF (HMMJ) (the "ETF"). Inclusion in the ETF is as a significant milestone for Namaste as the Company establishes itself as a leader in cannabis-focused e-commerce technology."

Absolute bonkers, parabolic, $300 prior to trading getting halted, market cap higher than that of Aphria & Canopy combined...
Good for Peter Thiel though...

I sold my MUs today, before the earning release today. I am pretty sure that the earnings will be very positive for the quarter but 6 percent return in three days is excellent. I did not want to risk it. Unlike most investors, I do not care if its price keeps increasing.

With the new highs of SPY --and DJI--, it seems like I was on the wrong side of the bet for buying SPY puts but their expiration date is far away, and the amount is small. I need to do more analysis to decide whether I close them or I add more. I like buying options because I know how much I can lose at most, unlike futures-which I stay away.

Yes I've been in and out of it for most of the year just out of it having well defined support and resistence levels. It hasn't done well this year if you held, last year it was one of the top 10 best performing ETFs.

Anyone here ever use the Motley Fool Stock Advisor subscription service?

https://www.fool.com/premium/stock-advisor/

Returns look good but sounds like a scam since many people say you can't beat the market year after year long term.
