I've heard it is next to impossible to get Chinese citizenship, even if you marry a Chinese national. Unless you're ethnically Chinese or loaded and bringing lots of investment cash/business into the country, I thought China was pretty much a no-go on citizenship rights?

Yes. You can't even get permanent residency.

Once upon a time, I was doing research on renouncing my US citizenship. While researching, I saw a Reddit post about an American that became stateless in an undisclosed East Asian country (probably China). He had been stuck there for 3 years and was trying to get the UN to help.

I thought this post was a reference to that story.

Everything is fine for Suits in China. Definitely no need for anyone to check in on him. He definitely isn't being forced to do anything against his will, such as give up his native citizenship, or sign a forced confession for that "situation" with the state councilors daughter.
