Walmart’s Out-of-Control Crime Problem Is Driving Police Crazy

I don't want this discussion to turn hostile, but literally the first sentence of your post says "correction", but you are not correcting or contradicting anything I said in my initial reply at all, which leads me to believe you are the one not reading my posts.

I was correcting your statement that if Walmart didn't exist there would be more overall jobs, by arguing that there would be more jobs in the retail sector only, which would be canceled out by job creation elsewhere resulting from the fact that consumers have more money to spend elsewhere due to Walmart's cheapness.

Quote:Quote:

Also you have created a strawman with your Broken Window Fallacy.

I probably wasn't clear enough on how that relates to my position. The Broken Window Fallacy debunks the myth that destruction is beneficial to the economy (because it ostensibly creates more jobs), whereas here I'm attempting to debunk your notion that the relative inefficiency of a bunch of small retailers vs. Walmart is beneficial to the economy for the same reason. So in order to see how Broken Window Fallacy relates to this, you'd need to replace all instances of "destruction" with "inefficiency."

Quote:Quote:

Also, your statement that money saved by shopping at walmart would be reinvested into the economy elsewhere is unsupported by the link you provided. (Can you prove they are not just spending more at Walmart? How do you account for food stamps which can only be spent for certain things?)

Even if 100% of the money people save buying cheap stuff at Walmart went toward buying more shit at Walmart, consumption is still increased and people are still buying a wider range of products which require workers to develop and manufacture.

Quote:Quote:

Futhermore you are still ignoring (and even denied in your initial post) the reduction of jobs that Walmart causes by putting other companies out of business.

Hopefully what I've written above clarifies this.

Delta, are you a marketing or corporate spokesperson for Wal-Mart?

If so, can I get some gift cards?

Delta, your idea that jobs are created elsewhere because customers save money at Walmart is still completely unsubstantiated.

Also, a new point you have brought up is possible increases in goods by manufacurers due to customers able to spend more, but you are ignoring the lower margins Walmart gives its suppliers versus smaller stores, and the importation of cheap goods from overseas.

Lastly, you cannot simply replace words in a theory and expect it to still hold true. That theory would need to address the concerns of a monopoly taking control of a smaller market, which is what Walmart does in many smaller communities.

Ha. Don't get me wrong, I'm not recommending that anyone shop at Walmart unless you really need to save money. It's overcrowded, chaotic, disorganized, kind of gross, and 100% free of decent looking girls. I'm speaking against the idea that big business in general harms society, which typically leads to calls for government to step in and enact asinine regulations to try and prop up the little guys.

I think we'll just have to agree to disagree on this topic. I don't see a long, drawn out back and forth as being beneficial.

The last point I'll make is that throughout the entire industrialized history of man, innovation and increased efficiency have caused people to lose their jobs. The result of which has not been 90% unemployment, but rather 90% of shitty jobs people used to work in the 1880's being replaced by better ones.

Well the article does have a point. You don't see this kind of shit happening at Costco.

Doesn't Costco have a membership fee?

Yes. Not only that, but when they ask you to check your receipts, that's actually part of their membership agreement (you've agreed to let them check your receipts against goods purchased). Smart of them.

Another interesting point, I've never been stopped when exiting a store by someone asking to check my receipt (except at Costco where they politely explained that I'd agreed to it).

I've walked out of tons of stores and not WASTED MY TIME in line to get my receipt checked off. Don't wait in line, there's no benefit for you especially since they can't stop you.

I'm not saying you should steal from stores, but in the vast majority of cases this is to stop people robbing them by COLLUDING with their employees and walking out with a 60" TV that's been marked as a $5 gallon of milk (this is why they check the receipt).

My time is more valuable than to wait for your useless employee #1 to check the work of useless employee #2.

I always just say, "no thanks" and keep walking. All I ever hear is a "sir!" and then if it's only a partially useless employee, a louder "SIR!" as I walk to my car. Their security is welcome to follow me to the parking lot and have a discussion with me but I'm not wasting my time waiting in line just to get my receipt checked to stop their own employees from colluding to rip them off. Fuck off with that.

My biggest check was for $1800 for a racial discrimination settlement against Abercrombie, and I routinely get $200+ checks from constantly doing these settlements. Even the $15-$20 settlements are often very easy and paperwork takes 2 minutes to complete. I keep a steady rotation of these going, as the checks usually take 6-12 months to get paid out, and they keep on coming in like clockwork month after month. Annually, I think I average around $1500-$2500 a year from these settlement checks and this is the easiest source of income I make.

The dumb part is that they don't have greeters on 24/7. I just remember that in Middle/high school some guys I knew would work with store employees. They would check a bunch of expensive shit out and input something else on the register and walk out like nothing happened at 2am. They did it with perfumes/chocolates mostly or other things that were small but pricey. Fence it, then split the profits.

Also, walmart now asks for your ID when you return stuff so that way they are able to see how returns a lot of shit with a "missing receipt". Actually a lot of stores are doing this now.

About a month ago I went to Zumiez to return some jeans. I bought one and the other was free, but their stupid system was accounting for the free jeans....so I ended up with my money back plus 50 bucks extra for the one that was free. I didn't say shit and thought "damn, that was a good way to arbitrage. Next time I'll get 20 of dem hoes".

I wanted to let you guys know that Walmart now charges ten cents for every plastic bag you get.

Trump better do something about this because this island is going to shit.

I think it depends what county/city it is in. All groceries stores in a big city nearest me have to charge 5 cents per bag to cover landfill costs or something.

Landfill costs my ass.

Its to keep ramming this sky is falling recycling and climate change bullshit down your throat every change they get.

What pisses me off even more is the reason we have to do it in Hawaii. Oahu has what we call the HPower Plant which burns trash and makes a little electricity. It was designed to handle plastics. None of those bags were going into the landfill.

We have to do it because California does it. That's the only reason. Sad.

No.

Poor kids in China and Sri Lanka sew those bags in sweatpants with their little fingers. What's worse.

Plastic bags were banned in Austin because of the terrible litter problem. Even the slightest breeze will sent them up into the air, so they were all over the place. Even the trash trucks would often have plastic bags get away and blow around the neighborhood.

Yeah, I get the argument about government interference, but there are also a lot of arguments about being an "attractive nuisance". Overall, I find the city a bit nicer without the plastic bags.

Yeah I don't like seeing the plastic bags either, my hometown has trees lining practically every highway and every road had dozens of plastic bags stuck in the trees. It's a litter issue, just looks ugly.

And you can absolutely get bags made in the USA. I've seen plenty at Grocery Stores with Made in the USA labels on them, all of mine are American Made.

They started charging 10 cents per bag in my California home town a few years ago. The worst part is going to the "natural food" stores where everybody brings their own bags so they can feel smug about saving the environment, meanwhile they're driving 20 minutes to work each day and live in giant air conditioned homes.

When the cashiers ask me if I need a bag I always say "yeah, and give me 2 extra".

Not because I need them. Just to piss them off.

Just re-use your plastic bags if they are not dirty.
I just grab 10 plastic bags and stuff them in a jacket pocket and them take them out at the cash register.

Notice how the Walmart spokesman says all of their suppliers "should" use unforced laborers. They don't say its required. Sad.

Walmart in mainland USA is totally different than Walmart in Hawaii. I've been to three in the last week and a half.

Mainland walmarts are a disgusting festival of white trash. Then there's Mexicans in school buses wearing cowboy hats, and you can hardly tell men from women.

Everything in the store is beat up crap. Some loudmouth black lady and what I assume is her grandson were opening up bleach bottles and smelling them. Bitch it smells like bleach. She was foul mouthed as shit to the point I thought she was joking. "This motherfuckin lavender motherfucker don't motherfuckin smell like fuckin lavender bitch" was what she said.

This fat white woman had three little fat boys with flat top haircuts wearing sweatpants was buying all these packages of baby food and my first thought was how the hell could you fed something from this bacteria pit to your baby.

My second thought was scarier. I imagined the baby out in the parking lot in the Ford ranger or whatever piece of shit scumbag s like that drive.

Aloha!
