NTP has shown me nothing but kindness and (until proven otherwise) respect so of course I have defended him up until the allegations of plagiarism. I've defended others before (here and in real life) when I was in the minority and when it was not in my best interest. I've also been at times the one doing the "calling out". The copy/pasted text does look to be a pattern, which is disappointing, but I will at least give the man a chance to elaborate. I will NOT be a stool pigeon who sells out their friends for their own self interest and in my opinion, anyone who does is nothing but a rat.

The truth is the truth, regardless of who's delivering the message. The evidence presented is extremely damning, in my opinion. If a random guy walked up and handed you a videotape (or emailed you a link to a video) of your beloved wife fucking another guy, are you going to be mad at him or at her? He was simply the bearer of bad news. He wasn't the one who betrayed and deceived you. In this case, AboveAverageJoe may not be a well-known or established forum member, but he has demonstrated his good will by risking his personal popularity to call out a highly repped member in order to preserve the integrity of the forum. Additionally, and perhaps most importantly, he did so by presenting near irrefutable evidence to support his claim. Evidence. That's the difference between someone who is just hating on another poster for whatever reason and someone acting in the best interests of the forum as a whole. It's not enough to just say, "I don't believe this guy is legit." You've got to make a strong case and present evidence for why the guy is not legit. If you can do that, I don't care who you are or how many posts/rep you have. The truth and the integrity of the forum is what's most important.

Before all the drama when I read his Buddhism post, I got the sense the first paragraph about his childhood were about him and in his own words, and the rest were aspects of Buddhism that he felt were important that he grabbed from Wikipedia or some other source, (including the map) because it did the best job of explaining what he thought was important.

I never thought anything between the first paragraph and the last were his own writing. I also didn't think he drew the map.

I'm surprised so many here did, and even more surprised so many people place so much importance on it, and treat it as some kind of abomination.

I never gave the post a "like" because it didn't seem like anything out of the ordinary. I also didn't feel threatened by it.

This whole "You didn't site your source" drama reminds me of when someone who wants to discredit you, but can't find anything substantial, starts to fault your spelling.

No problem that a newb made this post because he just presented evidence that showed verbatim copy and paste. He left it up to senior members to make up their minds about it.

I agree that his supposed lifestyle seems incongruent with his posting and that there are a lot of things that don't add up regarding his study of Buddhism, his superhuman swimming regimen, etc.

I think copy and pasting things in a way that suggests he is passing along personal experience is a much bigger crime than copying other basic information on a topic.

Hopefully he can address the concerns many have in this thread.

Is the baby thrown out with the bathwater? I suppose you could argue it says something about his character, but so does the time he's invested posting good and insightful information here.

It doesn't bode well that a faction like mentality with sides being chosen is appearing here. We are adults and we are supposedly the type that condemn other groups for this kind of inside bickering.

I think we can still converse about this without getting personal nor trashing other members. That said, I may have been too hard on Joe.

Maybe he's not trying to make a name for himself and is legitimately and eagerly trying to help the community. Its just hard to tell because he is so new himself.
