Regaining (or Stopping) Hair Loss?
08-26-2015, 12:57 PM
I am 34 years old and have been noticing that I'm beginning to experience male pattern baldness on my forehead hair line, particularly to the sides above my temples. Some of it I believe was due to stress/anxiety I was experiencing 2 months ago.
What are the options for someone my age to regain or at least control hair recession??

Head stands. Ten minutes a day. For preventative measures. Gets the blood flowing to the roots. Can't hurt. Can only help. Would love to see someone do this and log a 30-60 day before/after type picture trial.
I would. But I still have hair.

There are three.
1. Use Rogaine foam (or the generic equivalent) on your hair line (not on your crown, your hair line);
2. Get a prescription for 5 mg generic finasteride, cut the pills in quarters, pop a quarter before you go to bed at night; and
3. Get yourself miconazole nitrate shampoo, either over the counter or prescription strength. Use no more than twice a week, and be careful -- it interacts poorly with Cialis, etc.
You can post follow up to the thread, or PM me directly.

Doesn't Finasteride severely wreak havoc on your T levels? I remember reading something on ROK about that a few weeks back.
I'm happy BICing it but it works well with my style and head shape. Having a full head of hair again would be nice bough.

All of the chemical solutions to hair loss seem to a) have potentially awful test related side effects, b) be really annoying (having to apply foam every night before bed etc) and/or c) be expensive.
Would most people not be better off just waiting a couple of years and then getting a hair transplant? I saw a figure quoted on a thread here of €5k for that in decent Eastern European places. Which can't be much more than a few years of the chemical options would cost.
I haven't crossed this bridge yet thankfully but the hair transplant option is what I'd have in mind, if I get hit pretty badly with male pattern baldness.

As well as what's already been mentioned, Toppik hair fibres are quite useful if you've lost some hair. I've been using it for a while and people have commented that my normally thin hair looks better and thicker than it did five or six years ago (I'm 33, started balding at 23 or so). It works best in areas where there is a decent amount of hair for the fibres to attach to, if you have proper bald spots it won't do much good. I've also been using generic Fin for two years and Rogaine for about four months, which seem to have stopped me being bald, although I won't find out for sure unless I stop taking them. Side effects for me are minimal.

Read "hair like fox" by Danny Roddy ... I am pretty sure it helped with my mbp but a lot of people report no improvement.
As far as drugs go, must studies reporting low side effects are funded by drug companies themselves.
Search for some of terrible irreversable side effects people are reporting. Some claim it destroyed their lives...
If I was desperate I would sooner try progesterone to inhibit TII 5 alpha-reductase (which converts test into dht). Google that too, some guys are reporting insanely good results with minimal to 0 side effects.

What percentage of Finasteride users get the side effects?? Yeah, I've been reading the hair loss forums, some scary stories of the side effects of Finasteride products like Propecia. Some guys go down to .25mg/day and can still get effectiveness without the side effects. I just wonder if there's any way of knowing whether you'll be prone to the side effects before trying, or if it's worth trying in small doses to test out.
RU58841, and some other topical creams have been mentioned as alternatives to Fin. I don't have serious hair loss to the point of needing to shave it all of, my appearance still looks good, my hair has always been very thick and wavy all around, just dropping out at my temples and feeling thinner across my forehead now. It's been gradually happening for over a year. I wonder if I'm better off just starting with a topical cream combined with Rogaine and nizoral shampoo, the risks associated with Fin frighten me.

I use the baking soda + apple cider vinegar combo in the shower and it thickened my hair at the roots, I also take sesame oil + castor oil and rub it in the hair to strengthen the follicules and make them appear thicker. I can honestly say that not combing + not brushing + not using chemicals works wonders. I was thinning a few months back but now my hair is pretty damn thick, albeit greasy, but looks darker and healthier. Watch your diet too. Try to only incorporate stress in your life in the weight room or in your ambitions, keep it out of your personal life, it will help your hair line in the long term. The rest is genetics, gamble your bet with the dice of chance you were handed at birth.
