My first thought when clicking the link is that I would bang the shit out of that girl.

Pretty sure that might be a mental disorder also.

Yeap, having a normal sexual appetite is a mental disorder. No cure in sight though, sadly.

It's not a mental disorder all it's own, it's a symptom of narcissism.

The American Psychiatric Association (APA) has officially confirmed what many people thought all along: taking ‘selfies’ is a mental disorder.

The disorder is called selfitis, and is defined as the obsessive compulsive desire to take photos of one’s self and post them on social media as a way to make up for the lack of self-esteem and to fill a gap in intimacy.

According to this site, there are three levels of the disorder:

Borderline selfitis : taking photos of one’s self at least three times a day but not posting them on social media
Acute selfitis: taking photos of one’s self at least three times a day and posting each of the photos on social media
Chronic selfitis: Uncontrollable urge to take photos of one’s self round the clock and posting the photos on social media more than six times a day

The other good news is that CBT is covered under Obamacare.

I'm not a psychiatrist, but I'm pretty sure that a legitimate disorder wouldn't be labeled "selfitis."

Also, the information is taken from this site, where it states that:

When writing stories for this blog, we let the news sizzle and simmer in our mind in a mixture of fact and fiction, then we spice it up with figments of our imagination.

I'm not saying that obsessive selfie taking isn't symptomatic of a psychiatric disorder. I'd just be surprised if this particular story is real.

I don't know for sure but on the surface I don't like it. Narcissistic Personality Disorder and the difference between this may not be large enough to separate the two. NPD is controversial enough as it is, better guidelines are needed I feel. I would like to see it fully fleshed out in the new DSM manual, before I judge it to harshly right now.

I knew a girl who took all sorts of meds for all sorts of mental disorders.

She told me she took over 100 selfies per day.

I don't think it has much to do with Narcissistic Personality Disorder or Psychopathy.

Social media just makes people insecure.

So if there's a mental disorder caused by selfies and social media, they should call it Insecurity Personality Disorder.

Read a similar research where they point out that people look all the time at their phones with no reason. Its also like an addiction because the mind is not aware of it. It become unconscious behaviour.
Also they say that in houses with pools more kids die because parents don't pay attention.

Well but it seems like selfies ain't that bad:

Agree, even with that blank emotionless face as a warning signal that she was crazy and as I was dying because she poisoned my food and I choked on my last breath of air I might be thinking "Even though I knew it was a titty trap, I just walked right in"

Yeah, it seems to me to be more of a symptom than an actually disease. Society once trying avoid the truth with assigning diseases to very specific behaviors instead analyzing the mental of society as a whole, especially my retarded generation.

I approve.

Big Pharma's got some paychecks coming their way

Wonder what fun side effects the anti-selfie pill will have when railed.

At best, this really marginalizes actual mental disorders.

At worst, now I'm paying for chics to go on meds for taking selfies with taxes.

Wait...I guess we're already at worst.

I'll bet anybody's rent money she's had at least a nose and boob job.

I'm over neurotic plastic bitches setting thirst traps for simps and johns ready to open their checkbooks for just one sniff of their panties.

These bitches are so busy that they will last-minute flake on a bubble tea date, but they have plenty of time to take pictures of themselves while they're in somebody else's bathroom.

What.ever.

This paves the way for an APA approved pharmaceutical company to provide the "treatment" in the forms of pills.

If they actually come up with a pill that reduces the desire to take selfies, it will be a breakthrough into anti-narcissism research.

Unfortunately, it's a hoax. Here's a link to Snopes which I found in the comments on the page linked by the OP: http://www.snopes.com/politics/satire/selfies.asp

Let's pool our resources, get a patent approved, and sell it in the Philippines.

Filipinas are even worse than Americans with their selfies.
