Much of this thread is about pistols and rifles...but I have a Winchester 1300...excellent all-around shotgun, similar to Remington 870. We had a Ruger 10-22 growing up, sweet guns as well.

Me and friends occasionally go shoot skeet, trap, or sporting clays. Fun times with a shotgun

I'm non-partisan, but I've been doing this gun politics stuff for over 10 years.

It's unlikely any kind of firearm confiscation scheme will happen in the next, oh, 30 years barring some sort of societal collapse. True. But that doesn't change the fact that quite a lot of US senators and congressmen would just love to confiscate every gun in the country. I'm not doing your homework for you, you can dig up the relevant quotes if you want.

Anyway, 4473s aren't exactly the same thing as a gun register. The data isn't centralized, and if you sell the gun privately without going through an FFL they have no way of finding out who you sold it to. However, when a gun shop closes the 4473s go straight to the ATF, and it is a fact that the ATF has started going to gun shops and illegally scanning in 4473s. So the 4473s are a kind of patchy, decentralized registry.

I don't worry about it. I've bought so many guns, and sold so many guns, that I don't even remember half the shit I've owned. I'm probably on every watch list known to man between my military service, buying habits, and political activity on the web. They've had my DNA and fingerprints for years. Whatever. If the .gov wants to smoke me, or throw me in prison forever, I'm screwed. So is anyone else, really. Going through life worrying about that sort of thing and wasting time and money trying to fight it is no way to live.

Have a Remington 870... Strictly for home defense but never shot it before, need to get out to the range.

This is just a home kitty/range toy. I sleep better at night having this between me and the front door. Mossy 930's are reliable and balance out well with all the accessories.

For home defense rounds, I prefer just about anything 3" buckshot. Current load is:


   

3" .625 2 Magnum Balls @ 1250 fps. I can squeeze 7 in the shotgun.

.22 cal is potent enough to kill humans, and small game. And you can reduce the sound of your shots with commons household items.

.22's aren't for self-defense unless you're highly skilled. But they can be lethal as the round will enter the body but not leave. It can do extensive damage, especially with a head shot.

A standard for collectors is the Ruger 10/22. Hands down the funnest plinking rifle out there. VHEH Tactical:

I've surrendered all of my guns when I got locked up but now fighting the system to obtain my FID card here in the states.

If I am unsuccessful I will get a 12g tactical shotty illeagally for home defense. Have another couple of weeks until I hear back from my local police station. Ifit's a no go, i'm going to a gun show and going to look for a private seller.

.243 has a pulsar n750 nite vision scope, which is pretty good and also the attachment (I think it is the ns800, can't remember, lost the charger for the battery so never use it). 20 rounds costs just under £30. .22 1000 rounds was I think £88. Cartridges for the 410 was £150 for 500. Lasted a day.

.22 magazine is a bit touchy and falls out, which creates an annoying problem in the dark.

Yeah, the Yanks might have WAY cooler guns. But we have no problem getting silencers and NV scopes over here, so it kind of balances out. Sort of. Ish.

I have a cheap OAU 12-bore. Had a go on my mates thermal NV the other night, that stuff is incredible. My main shooting these days is rats with NV and an airgun, I can;'t be arsed to do any more than sit in the truck with a flask of coffee waiting for them

Any idea what Thermal NV was? I did have a sales person come out to mine with gear starting from £2k up to £25k. Ultimately I bottled it and didn't open the door.....was tired anyway. There seems to be quite a decent bit of NV kit going for under 1k, mine was about £1215 two years ago. Was a bastard to get it to fit, had to take it into the shop for them to sort it out. The .243 is older than I am, by some margin! (Parker hale....!)

When I first got the NV working it was exciting stuff. Was on my own lamping and got 8 foxes in 4 nights. No more trying to hold the lamp and shoot. Only had 1 problem with it (apart from the shit battery life) when for some reason it was out six inches to the right. Had 3 shots at one, missed every time. Re zerod next day, boom.

Best head shot on the .22 was 119 yards rabbit. Running. Zerod in at 80 yards at the time.

.243 was a 226 head shot. My mate got a 289 yarder headshot (no night vision either)

Got 1 OUA shotgun, some russian make. Pretty nice and cheap. The rest are all old side by sides. In fact 3 need to go in (second barrel not firing, or on the 20 it is stuck, cannot close it)

Could do with a air rifle for squirrels in traps but cannot find any for cheap.

Former Nuclear Submariner including Nuclear Submarine Security - qualified as a marksman with both M16 and 45 Semi Auto pistol. Live in New Hampshire Live Free or Die state - our State house and Senate recently passed constitutional carry (concealed with no permit required therefore constitutional right to keep and bear arms)... however our Lady Feminist Gov being romanced by anti 2nd amendment Michael Billionaire Bloomberg himself to veto in exchange for his political $$upport. So we will see.

Have a Ruger Speed Six Stainless Steel .357 Magnum for personal protection while out in the woods hunting and fishing - its a revolver - old school but if a roaming dog pack or rabid animal bites your arm you can fire one handed either hand and will take out anything charging or with rabies normally with one shot but it being a stainless steel hand cannon a bit too large to use as a concealed pocket piece.

A few points;

1. We have the Sig Sauer Academy in Exeter, NH they are world renown for their instructional courses including courses for SWAT teams and advanced military tactical - If you want a firearm for personal protection I strongly urge you to get training in the legal use of lethal force even if it is a Local police taught course with live range shooting and coaching. Stand your Ground, concealed carry and use of lethal force vary from state to state and police taught courses are fairly affordable and they will best know your local laws.

2. As I mentioned get some range time and coaching in proper use and accurate aiming and firing of your firearm - will discipline you how to control your breathing aim and accurately fire especially when threatened with muggers or home invader robbers - training will make sure you do not fumble around in the dark - best alarm is a trained dog who will bark up a storm if you are sleeping and you don't want to mistake and shoot your dog, girlfriend, wife or kids so training is invaluable in this regard.

3. Lets face it in the USA bigger is better and we all love Clint Eastwood's Dirty harry character http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/.44_Magnum (see popular culture Dirty Harry) however studies show that if a mugger, robber or home invader knows you are carrying they are more likely to shoot first - which makes a concealed pocket piece particularly attractive - if someone says lets see your wallet and they only have a club or knife and you pull out a compact 9MM you are now in control add some police lethal force training and a laser trigger sight and you are good to go - here is a nice array of compact concealed carry pieces: http://concealednation.org/2014/07/the-1...arry-guns/

4. Depending upon your state you can purchase a firearm at a local firearms show with minimal paperwork often just your ID and a receipt of purchase and most gun show sellers are either licensed dealers or very experienced collectors so the less government databases you are in the more privacy you have. Plus you will meet some good knowledgeable folks in the process.

All I currently have is a M & P Compact .40 S & W. Its nice to carry and if I use the clip with the pinky grip it fits my hands perfect.


My next gun I want to get is the famous Ruger 10-22 rifle. Considered one of the most fun guns to shoot for a reason.
