Haha good point Gemini, if I didn't live in surrey I would never come out here and spend all my time in Vancouver/burnaby area. But goddamn, rent is like $600 cheaper out here.
Also I made the trip to blarney stone on the weekend, that place is off the chain! 2 for 1 shots upstairs too. Also, something about those Irish drinking bands just gets me in an awesome mood. Lots of cute girls, mostly girls night out, or with their beta orbiters. Would deffinitely recommend it if you've never been.
I went to a couple other decent bars that had potential, I'll go back this weekend to double check with my wingman and his girl (they are seriously so helpful, a red pill girl is like a secret weapon) and see if they are worthy of reporting.
Would it be a good idea to post some local bar events? Like this mardi gras event I know about soon and such, I have a pretty good network in burnaby area, or do you guys usually like to keep a certain level of anonymity on here? (I know I'm new but I've been lurking for months, always missing the 1st registration)
Anyways, cheers dudes, and happy lizard slaying

I lived in Vancouver for around 15 years and I'm 34 now so I've got a pretty good vibe on its different night spots. My past year especially since I quit my job and didn't do much beyond play poker and go out. Probably too much, my wallet and health would argue.
Vancouver is nice that it has a very central street called Granville where many popular bars reside. During summer and the busy times of year the street becomes walking only. I've linked their yelp profiles for reference. Take what people say there with a grain of salt (a lot of haters); some places are shit on some nights though. Bars stay open until 2 or 3am (with the occasional 4am for some places on special holidays).

Your interest in hangouts, girls, and races may vary. Info is up to date up until around Oct 2012.

Most bars have an event promoter that posts parties they have on clubzone (http://www.clubzone.com/h1/vancouver/nightlife.html)
Good to know what's happening at places on off-weekend days and where to avoid on weekends that will have huge cover and huge lines. Most weekend cover is between $15 and $20 for the busy clubs.
Some bars allow you to sign up for guest list on Clubzone. But it's sometimes only valid until 11 or 12, and sometimes you'll still have to pay cover (it's only "VIP line").
If you go out enough you'll probably meet different promoters and bartenders that you can hit up for guest list (they want you to come spend money there). I feel guilty about doing this sometimes when it's the only contact we've recently had and I'm asking for something, but I keep remdining myself that it benefits them if they're working and people come to the bar.

One problem with Vancouver that's especially prolific in the summer is massive lineups at nearly all the popular clubs. For both the VIP and the regular lineup. Often friends of bouncers/staff will just skip both. Table service skips all lines but cheap bottles are expensive ($120++). Past 11:30 at night until 1:30, you can pretty much forget about walking into any of the clubs such as (Library Square, Venue, Republic, Ceilis, Caprice, Roxy, sometimes Barcelona) unless you want to wait in line for 1-2+ hours. Over time, bouncer rapport game can help at some venues which can be HUGE or sometimes greasing $20 if done smoothly can skip the line but you'll still have to pay cover.

Monday:
Cellar (http://www.yelp.ca/biz/the-cellar-nightclub-vancouver) I think still has different events on Monday that are very busy. In Winter they have apres ski events that people who go snowboarding etc. come to drink afterwards. There's not much open. Just people that might be at pubs.

Tuesday:
Go to Celebrities (http://www.yelp.ca/biz/celebrities-night...ancouver). Line up can start getting long some days as early as 9:30 especially in summer. Mix of students and clubbers but some hot girls too. People hook up here but sometimes girls dancing in 4-packs aren't interested in talking to guys.
Cellar has live reggae which can be a good change sometimes but it wasn't packed.

Wed:
Starting to get a little busier. A few people at Cellar (DJ).
"Casa 967" at Caprice (http://www.yelp.ca/biz/caprice-night-club-vancouver) is busy and packed with foreigners (usually student).
Ceili's (http://www.yelp.ca/biz/ceilis-irish-pub-vancouver) is packed with people because of their dollar beer specials. Expect long lines, many drunk people, some slutty girls.

Thursday:
Cellar has a live band and is busy. Many foreigners again as promoters give out tickets for free near student housing. A lot of regulars come here each week.
Republic (http://www.yelp.ca/biz/republic-vancouver) will have people coming and gonig through the night, but they will probably only be open upstairs.

Fri-Sat:
Everywhere is busy. My preferred spots to hang out because you can usually get in without waiting a long time in line, slightly older crowd, better music.
Joseph Richard (http://www.yelp.ca/biz/joseph-richard-ni...-vancouver) less white crowd. But good ratios sometimes and guys usually stand around a lot holding their drinks.
Barcelona (http://www.yelp.ca/biz/barcelona-ultra-lounge-vancouver) attractive crowd, decent ratios, reactions to being approached can range from friendly to ice princess.
Ginger 62 (http://www.yelp.ca/biz/ginger-62-vancouver). My favorite club in Vancouver - great staff, good music, great crowd (least douchy of the Granville strip bars). Since it's near the end of the strip it gets a little less walk-in traffic of bro's and ho's. Gets busy but often is the right amount of full where you aren't shoulder to shoulder shuffling around. A lot of non-VIP seating compared to most Granville bars (usually none). Photobooth and semi-curtained booths for isolation. Take care of the bartenders and they'll take care of you.

Sometimes if I'm not into going down to the strip I might go check out Pint and Vinyl (closest Skytrain is Stadium Station).
Pint (http://www.yelp.ca/biz/the-pint-public-house-vancouver) is a bar/pub that on Friday/Saturday that strangely has turned into a similar vibe/crowd as Yaletown Brewing Company (more on them later) - small dance floor, DJ booth, people standing around with drinks and mingling.
Vinyl (below Pint) (http://www.yelp.ca/biz/vinyl-retro-dance...-vancouver) very young crowd, shorter lines, many UBC students. Top 40 / dance / 80s and 90s.

Sunday:
Republic has live reggae. I feel very white there sometimes. Worth checking out but line can get busy during peak hours.
Just next door is Roxy (http://www.yelp.ca/biz/the-roxy-vancouver) playing live country music. If you're into that kind of thing. But girls like country, and you like girls, right? Crowd is a little oder and can approach the cougar age. Best way to descrive Roxy would be a sports/rock/pickup bar.

Special Mention:
Factory (http://www.yelp.ca/biz/the-factory-vancouver) - cheap drink specials, friendly bartenders, and nearly everything on the menu is $6. Notable since most entrees downtown could run $12-$15... You can't walk around with a drink but if you're at the bar you can open people next to you.
(Similar to Factory is http://www.yelp.ca/biz/famous-warehouse-vancouver nearby).
Street game on Granville, and twilight game after 2-3AM, "pizza stop game", can work but girls are drunk, super ADD, and wary of creepy drunk guys hitting them up.

Cellar - I've mentioned it a few times because it's open every day but Sunday. The staff is cool but will some will hit on the girls that come here. Next door is a hostel so there's a lot of internationals that come here. Quality isn't super high but a lot of "regular" girls come here. In the back is stairway upstairs to Doolin's so you can go back and forth to check out both spots.

Yaletown Brewing Company - bar with a pool table that was known for a long time as a good place to pickup with mixed crowd of some yuppies and randoms. I wouldn't recommend it anymore as there's too many pickup dudes, gets too crowded, hard to get a drink, hard to move around. Pint has become a better place to go now.

Roxy - it's open every day of the week, so if you're here and it's a random Tuesday or something and nothing else appears to be happening, it's worth checking out.

Whens a good time to visit? Thinking about checking it out. Would probably be sometime around June, July or August. Anything going on one of those weekends?

chyamor: last summer was my first summer in Vancouver so I don't have tons of summer data. I was doing a lot more stuff in august though, seemed to be a lot of festivals/events going on (such as some volleyball tournament ie. poosy paradise). Wreck beach would be good if you like topless hippy chicks. Bring some weed and game on. Just check the weather report because its ugly when it rains.

Yo would you vancouver cats say living in kits is good for logistics downtown? Me and my buddy were thinking of splitting a place there by the beach. It'll obviously be good for the beach but I dont know how easy it is to maneuver to and from the downtown core to kits. Can anyone shed some light for me? Cheers

Kits has more of a neighborhood feel than most of downtown (The West End of downtown is the exception). Kits IS very close to downtown, and closer to UBC, but it isn't really within strolling distance of either. You'll need to cab or bus it, whereas if you live downtown you can walk pretty much anywhere on the downtown peninsula. As a a guy even late at night. When with a girl get a cab if travelling more than a km or so alte at nght. I lived in downtown for many years walked everywhere and can think of only two "incidents" on the street, both very minor. To be honest even the Downtown Eastside (one of the worst areas in Canada) isn't a risk. A lot of the residents there have insurmountable issues with addiction, mental health and poverty (the deadly trifecta), but are lost in their own world. Not really mugger types. They do tend to careen into the street without warning though. So if driving through take care.

My personal choice would be to live downtown, but if you like the beach a lot then Kits may be for you. It IS easy to get to downtown from Kits. Lots of buses over Burrard and Granville Bridges from West Broadway nd 4th. It's just that it's not really strollable. West Broadway and 4th Avenue have their share of restaurants and bars. Can't remember any clubs there, aside from a comedy club, but there may be. It's a rich area (somewhat old money) so my guess is residents have influence and put pressure on the city council not to allow big nightclubs in the area. My sole recommendation in the area would be "The Naam" restaurant on 4th and MacDonald very late night (after downtown clubs close). It's a 24 hour vegetarian restaurant. If you can put up with sitar music (there always seems to be a sitar player there) it's a good spot for hippy girls. Their groups move from the clubs to the restaurant before breaking up and heading home. There aren't many 24 hour restaurants in Vancouver. There's a Deny's downtown, but late night that turns into a freak show of transvestites and , well, freaks. Not a good place for gaming.

j-roc if you move to kits ill drop some mad knowledge on ya naw'imsayn. There are 2 groups of people in that area: old people and students. You'll be about 10 minutes from UBC for day game. There are some decent night game spots. You're also a 30 minute bus downtown BUT many girls you meet downtown will me from that area/UBC not necessarily the worst logistically, but theres lots of travel. Make sure you're on a night bus route (along macdonald or brodway) or on one of the main cross roads ie. along brodway. There are 99bline stops at 10th/alma, macdonald and arbutus/maple. Id say for kits your prime location would be somewhere around alma/brodway. 15 minute walk to the beach and all of the buses downtown are there. Shop around for a place too, tell them you're students too they'll be more likely to rent to you. For a 2br you could get something nice for around $700/month/person, I know people who are paying 4-500 too

Bad is basically right. There is downtown, and then everywhere else.
Kits by the beach in a shared place might even cost you as much as a place downtown.
Unless you can walk somewhere in <10 minutes, it isn't "good for logistics".

There are 0 clubs in Kits, just a lot of restaurants and restaurant-bars along beach ave.

True, but there are worse spots he could be. If you found somewhere cheap directly on the canada line (like a block away) that would be sweet too.

If you really want to get into Van you could wait for may when all of the UBC kids move out and grab a cheap 4 month summer sublet (the place I lived last summer was a shithole, but it had that 'university' feel, beer pong tables outside and tons of partying. great for swooping college girls). A lot of places will go unrented so you could bring down the price (I knew a guy who was paying $200 a month just because no one wanted to live there). You could take that 4 months to be super close to the beach and find logistically superior downtown place (thats cheap too). I know a girl who lives in yaletown for $750 a month.

It really all comes down to:

- how much you want to pay
- what kind of girls are you looking to bang
- where are you looking to meet these girls
- where is your job
- what kind of friends do you want to make

etc.

You guys have been very helpful, cheers. Unfortunately I can't afford downtown, I'm 21 and live off about 3200 a month so downtown would leave me with very little money to play with. I'll probably have to find a hustle on the side either way to get some pocket cash but whatever, better then living in butt-f*ck nowhere in Surrey. I think I'll try to go to Kits still, I want to game those ubc ladies. Kind of silly that I have part time school at vcc and want to live by a different school but oh well.
Your words of wisdom are much appreciated gentlemen, hopefully I'll be able to actualy contribute with some real data when I get out there.

I noticed The Cambie isn't listed. The place is a total dive bar but they have no cover so it's alot of young girls there. Also they have big 10-12 people tables, I've used "Are these seats taken?" as an opener alot. The place is very hit and miss though. I've met some cool people and hot women there, but also have walked through the door and wanted to leave immediately as well. Might be worth checking if you guys are on a budget. (like me)
Also I had no idea, but I was at the blarney stone and they have 2 for 1 shots($4) upstairs. If you go before 8 (I believe, maybe 9) there is no cover. So again it can be a cheap night out living off 2 for 1 shots. Something about the Irish bands though makes me want to drink beer. Lots of beer.
Anyways, best of luck dudes

Hello all, i made a link with two talented singers here in Delta, BC. I am going to manage them and see if we can get some exposure and maybe make a few bucks. They do live music with guitars and they have their own equipment, amplifiers and such. They are in their late 30's and will pretty much sing anything. Most of their music are covers. I know it maybe a cliche but we are attempting to make a few bucks here. My question is where in the BC area would be good for us to put on a show? I am talking a specific venue. What kind of music would you suggest they play? How much could we charge for the cover? What kind of audience should we target? Ay advice on this topic will be appreciated. This is my first attempt at managing a band and I want to do it well.

The Cambie is a hit or miss venue. The crowd ranges from: lower class/blue collar, punk style, gangsta dressing wannabes, UBC students, and ESL students. The Cambie is great for opening ESL students: latinas from Mexico and Brazil. They often come in their big ESL groups, but they're generally receptive.

Because there's no cover its a great place to do a quick walk through.

Go to Charles Bar. Its 30 second walking distance from The Cambie

Its a great venue for the Brothas - every time I stop by, Brothas are always killing it in there with the blondes/brunettes. The fashion style at Charles Bar is yuppie mixed with yuppie hip hop.

Hey WesternCancer, congratulations on your new job!

I live in Vancouver, too bad we never got the chance to meet up. The fundraiser thing a while ago didn't happend I guess.

Anyways, you are right about the city, it's great actually. I live downtown and I love it. A high concentration of young people, tons of girls walking around Robson or Yaletown or Granville, coffee shops, gyms, pubs, clubs (although the nightlife kinda sucks in general, you gotta find you favorite venue, and you gotta be open to other things beside it such as art galleries, events, etc. Although on a negative note, I hate the growing hipster influence in this city.

Anyone else from Vancouver on the forum, send me a PM.

Sandbar on Granville Island was always known as a cougar / leopard hangout. Never checked it out though.

Roxy can be a cougar spot during the week sometimes, it's one of the fewer bars that older women might check out and dance if they're with work friends etc...

+1 for cougars at the roxy, I've been a few times and it's definitely an older crowd. I heard granville island is cougar paradise but either way they are a long ways from Delta unfortunately.

All you players got to hit kits beach. Something is seriously off with the ratio, i would put it at almost 2:1 girls:guys and loads of fly girls everywhere, my head was on a swivel when I was there yesterday. Place is bumping now that it's hot out you all should check it out assuming you like cute uni girls.

Cheers western cancer, thanks for dropping your mad knowledge bombs bro. Take it easy and best of luck on you adventures out there.

Hey J-Mackin check out the Cloverdale Rodeo and Country Fair out in Cloverdale in Surrey as seeing as you're a foreigner, a chance to see something different.

Otherwise, seeing as it might be a good sunny long weekend, hit the beaches, Kits that Jayrock mentioned is always a hotspot for younger people, or go downtown and day game at the beaches, seawall, stanley park ect.
