...you should move away from discussing pop culture completely. Game of Thrones annoys me specifically for some reason. I've never met any guy in real life who likes that show that I would have a productive conversation or could be friends with. They seem to think they're smart because they watch it. A different kind of Rick and Morty type IMO
I've always viewed pop culture stuff as a way to distract men from finding out more about their cultural history and discussing it. Two things that threaten the power structure of the elite.
Different pop culture things will capture different types of men:
Sportsball distracts the more rowdy/foot-soldier type from directing their rage at the system. Instead they yell at the TV on Sunday.
Rick & Morty, and other "deeper" shows, distract the nerdy/higher IQ type from reading more about their history. Instead they discuss the hidden meaning or whatever in this fictional universe. Game of Thrones is especially good at this since it replaces our history with this weird PC friendly fictional history.
Pop music distracts musicians. Most modern musicians don't know about music from before The Beatles...
And this list goes on.
Your advice about avoiding pop culture is solid advice. We have thousands of years of real and meaningful culture. We have no need for fictional culture designed to brainwash us with inverted morals.
This is pretty spot on. I never actually thought of it like this, but now it makes total sense why i always thought pop culture was so shallow and i never really bothered to familiarize myself with it at all.
