This is a good thing, a needed next step in the meme war. Redpill/bluepill became synonymous with MRAs and then white nationalists. Then Pepe. This meme is more evolved and backed by science and historical evidence (Yuri Bezmenov). Taking an important and far-reaching concept then boiling it down so that it can be represented verbally by an acronym and visually by a simple drawing is the stuff that'll win hearts and minds.
The NPC concept is also good because it's not inherently divisive along race, gender or political lines (at least not on the surface). So it'll be harder for the tribalists and SJWs to attack.

When people talk of an inner monologue, do people mean a literal dialogue with yourself back and forth? Or more thinking/overthinking to yourself, which may come in the form of a dialogue, or visualisation of events, thinking "that's fucking bullshit, I'd kill those tossers" when they read about Muslim gangs etc? I get the latter, but not so much the former.
The idea of people having nothing is actually rather disturbing to me.

But the true question is "
Will the NPC meme last ?"

Tell them too much, they wouldn't understand; tell them what they know, they would yawn.
They have to move up by responding to challenges, not too easy not too hard, until they paused at what they always think is the end of the road for all time instead of a momentary break in an endless upward spiral

People who lack an inner monologue appear more confident. It's pure action and emotion that girls love. Being thoughtful and logical is often a social hindrance for men in my opinion. I think introversion gets confused with insecurity simply because most people are on a different wavelength.

The study doesn't (remotely) meet any reasonably standard of scientific research
The memes, however, explain a lot of the world I seem to encounter.

Just to say something related to this phenomena.
Stopping inner monologue on purpose is pretty much one of the chief tenets of many spiritual systems and philosophies throughout the world. When you can control your inner monologue at will, you become master of your mind, true alchemist of psyche.

I have a hypothesis that modern entertainment, music, and all distraction such as social media and sports is a calculated way to kill off the inner dialogues of people, and to stave off unique and revolutionary thinking.

Inner monologue is speaking to yourself about things that happen to you. They are verbal reactions that take place in your mind. They can also include planning of the future (e.g. reviewing in your mind the things you have to do over the course of the day).
Full-blown dialogues are just a form of the monologue that I would guess is more of an "overactive" inner monologue. I usually have dialogues to process complex events and ideas that later make their way into my writings. I could probably be called a "crazy" person because of how intense my inner monologue is, to the point that it is obtrusive to my sleep.
OK, so I'm definitely a playable character then, ha — though my mind isn't perhaps as active as yours. Man, imagine
not having any reactive thoughts? That's truly, truly bizarre. So bizarre, I can't get my head around it. There must be
someone, just by law of averages (even taking into account the high IQ this forum attracts) here, that can somewhat explain what that is like.
I genuinely can't comprehend not having internal thoughts/self-dialogue about events/future things one is worried about... it's un-human to me. Hell, I have internal verbal reactions about things I read on here, or "should I?" questions about controversial positions or 'call out' posts. Even benign ones.

I think we live in a time that facilitates this phenomenon. There is so much man-made stimuli in the day-to-day lives of the average human in today's post-industrial societies, that a lot of people find little to no need to be creative as a pastime or to seek purpose. Mankind has created synthetic world of experience outside of mother nature that would take many lifetimes to fully conquer. Because of that, we have millions of people running on auto-pilot. They check their phone, contribute to and consume their social media, drink a latte, listen to music and podcasts with their earbuds in, sit in the cubicle, watch some streaming videos, fly to a resort for their annual PTO, etc. We live in a sterile world here that teaches us to avoid personal human interaction and instead live vicariously through through all this digital-age shit. It's freaky if you sit back and think about it.
At the end of the day if you stay off of the web and just talk to people and try to live in the moment as much as possible you'll realize things aren't so bad though.

^ Yeah but when said people look at a whatsapp message, they must have SOME form of internal reaction/inner-vocalisation to the stimuli. Be it a nice message from a girl, a friendly message from a mate etc...

Still can't believe there are people without an inner monologue. I'm hesitant to immediately assign people without one to the sheepish NPC like thinking but I wonder if there is a direct correlation. Surely IQ and other factors must matter as well. I feel like mine is very active, for as long as I can remember I've been getting lost in thought going over things using it. I can only sit with a clean mind very briefly before it kicks up again either.
I do like the NPC meme but I'm still not exactly sure how it's supposed to be used. I'm pretty sure the masses are supposed to be the NPCs but are the people they watch, the talking heads, are they supposed to be NPCs as well? Or the programmers telling them how to think? I think the meme needs a little more refinement to be it's most potent. It's very weird how twitter is already all over censoring this. Could really have something here.
