So that's why we're called players.

The internal monologue must be maladaptive in some cases. I can think of a couple that hit me:
"Okay, now that someone's listening to me play the piano I'd better not make a mistake so think about each key I'm going to press instead of using muscle memory. Shit, I fucked up."
"Gee, I sure better to go to bed now that it's 3 AM. I'll just lie here in this dark bedroom and fall asleep. Just gotta get sleepy. ... I wonder if the aliens in Interstellar had accidentally rotated Matthew Mcconaughey in the fourth dimension before spitting him out of the Tesseract, would all the chiral molecules in his body be flipped? I bet someone else has thought of this, I should get up and google it."
So are the people who don't have the internal monologue just doing something equivalent nonverbally with imagery or something? Or are they actually just zombies that react to stimuli without qualia?

Stopping inner monologue on purpose is pretty much one of the chief tenets of many spiritual systems and philosophies throughout the world. When you can control your inner monologue at will, you become master of your mind, true alchemist of psyche.

For example, I know that many (most?) people verbalize text when they read. In other words, they "silently read out loud" inside their heads. But I don't do that. I just see words and my brain decodes the abstract meanings behind them, almost as if they were symbols. In other words, when I see the phrase, "in other words", my brain recognizes this as a symbol meaning, "To put something another way," and I place that into the framework of the surrounding text and thus understand the meaning of the sentence.
We are NPCs to you. Your existence has transcended the code.

Game would work differently if there weren't a lot of NPC's around.
Is game simply an algorithm to extract sex from NPC females?

Potential evolution of this meme could spell disaster for media outlets. Check out this video of someone NPC'ing CNN...

Imagine all CNN videos uploaded to Youtube get remade with NPC faces.
On 4chan someone said this can be done automatically with the deep fakes program. Assuming that is true, it wouldn't be hard to automatically download media outlet clips from Youtube, run it through the deepfakes program, and reupload them.

To add to what Caduceus (VERY nice post by the way), I believe that those people who are very smart and can react to things very quickly lived a life that installed those traits. For example, a very charismatic person may be a military brat, forced to make friends in different places. Another example could be a good salesman who could predict which who would or would not buy his product. That person could have lived a childhood full of hustling to live.
Your brain is a muscle and like all muscles, it can be trained. I believe NPC are simply people who are content with living off instinct and riding the wave. I feel most kids growing up don't have the inner monologue but instead grow into having one. a Higher sense of consciousness
Now my Controversial opinion, I believe that weed has a STRONG impact on the NPC state. In my opinion, weed is like meditation for some it can calm down the inner monologue and cause people to be great thinkers and innovators. For other, however, I feel it dumbs them down and turns them into mindless followers.
Also, NPC tend to use more emotion than logic, so it has to be some sort of correlation.

There is no remembrance of former things; neither shall there be any remembrance of things that are to come with those that shall come after."
