@universalmen - if you like scientifically-backed fitness content then check out Jeff Nippard's "science explained" videos on YouTube. The whole series is all about different muscle/fitness topics explained with evidence and references to tests and studies (they are all cited in the videos)

How much science do you think is really devoted to building a bigger, more ripped, better athlete? Do you think the scientific community is really focused on getting jacked and ripped?? No.

So, there are clinical studies that show that getting huge (beastly i.e., Ronnie Coleman) is detrimental to the body.

Our bodies were not designed for this artificially (I say that loosely because of genetic mutations) added muscle or size. The added weight and stress to the bones and joints is not what scientists are trying to achieve, which is, part of the reason why we have such strict drug doping laws in professional sports, in the U.S. at least.

Now, educated people like Jeff Cavaliere use science to help athletes get bigger, stronger, and better at their sport but in a natural (hopefully) and legal manner.

BUT, I also believe in the theory of Evolution and because some people continue to use steroids or other artificial ways to enhance their bodies', it is possible that someday some of our offspring will have a genetic mutation that allows them to naturally become massive and may no longer be a detriment to their bodies'.

I second this. Nice science based series. Omar isuf also is one to follow as he is science based. 3dmj.

I've been watching a lot of Jeff Nippard's videos, and I have to say that, "I'm impressed." He's got a wealth of knowledgeable videos and I'll start recommending them to others. Here's a great video I watched this morning about his 'Science Applied' series:

This post is a slight deviation from my previous posts regarding Cavaliere but if anyone is interested in learning more about intermittent fasting I've put one link in from the RVF that discusses it in great length, I.F. on Bodybuilding.com by Dr. Jim Stoppani, and the third is from one of Jeff's videos (he actually argues against utilizing IF):

Are you trying to shape your lower pecs to get that more defined look?

Well, then slap your tender lower pectorals with the video down below!

I've been working on getting a more defined chest and I'm adding 8 (you read that right) new lower chest exercises to my weekly routine to get the definition in my chest I've been looking for. I had no idea doing dip exercises was a variation of decline chest press, of course, it has to be done a certain way to maximize lower chest potential, enjoy!

Today I'm focusing on biceps and triceps at the gym today. I start with doing four bicep exercises (these are my favorites):

- 4 sets of standing bicep curl/alternating
- 4 sets seated incline-outer bicep curls
- 4 sets of "21s" (start with 7 reps lower half standing bicep curls then 7 reps of upper half standing bicep curls then finish off the set with 7 reps full motion standing bicep curls)
- 4 sets of hammer curls/close-grip bicep pull-ups.

My tricep exercises:

- 4 sets of weighted dips
- 4 sets of cable rope pulldowns
- 4 sets of cable triangle pulldowns
- 4 sets of standing behind the back tricep raises

Today's Cavaliere video focuses on proper bicep curl training, and how important it is to maintain good form when performing a curl for maximum gains. Which of us dedicated lifters doesn't want those mountain peaks?

As always, Jesse adds entertainment to the workouts and demonstrates what NOT to do!

Today, at the gym, I wanted to do something different (Full Body Workout). It's good to switch up your workouts every few months to shock your muscles for more gains and escape those plateaus.

I do full body workouts also when I've, unfortunately, was busy during the week and couldn't find time for the gym and work each muscle group, separately. So, why not cover all-of-'em in one go?!

Today's video by Athlean-X is a great switch-up to your regularly scheduled workouts.

It's Thor's-day! You know what that means?! Don't know?! Well, neither do I! All I know is that Thanksgiving is coming up in a couple more weeks and I want to make sure my gut doesn't get attacked by fat and carbs.

So, today's gym workout I'll be exercising the 'rectus abdominis'! No, not the 'rectal cavity' for those that are confused. I speak of the 'abdominal muscle' or is more popularly known as, the 'Abs'!

It's good to make sure that you get a good Abdominal muscle workout at least twice a week, and above all, if you want a shredded six-pack... you gotta watch what you eat.

Today's Cavaliere video covers the rectus abdominis with a brutal 7 min workout! It's brutal, trust m-- Jeff. He makes it look easy but it's really not.

Info for about 2.5 mins in but actual workout begins at min 2:29:

His last vid is excellent

Tell them too much, they wouldn't understand; tell them what they know, they would yawn.
They have to move up by responding to challenges, not too easy not too hard, until they paused at what they always think is the end of the road for all time instead of a momentary break in an endless upward spiral

Alright, Gentleman! Today's gym workout is my LEAST favorite exercises to do and I'm sure many of you will share the same sentiment: LEGS... uh, I hate doing leg exercises but I like to be proportionate and thankfully, Gym Master Cavaliere always comes through to Science-the-day! Too much? Okay.

Today's video by Jeff is a few years old but it's still chock-full of gold! In this video, he puts emphasis on your knees and, of course, it's necessary to build your knee muscles if you're all about building strong/powerful legs.

My typical leg exercises consist of:

Leg press: 4 sets of 5-8 reps (Heavy)
Walking dumbbell lunges: 4 sets of 50-90 pound EZ-curl barbells (You can also use dumbbells for this exercise. I just like throwing the barbells behind my traps like a squat exercise)
Seated hamstring cable exercise: 4 sets of 5-8 reps (Heavy)
Seated quad raise cable exercise: 4 sets of 5-8 reps (Heavy)

Have a great leg workout gents!

I like Cavaliere, but this is like spot reduction. Mostly nonsense. The way muscles lay is largely (98%) genetic. You just get your morphology. Sorry to break it to you. It's sorta like how high the nipple is, or how big it is. Like women's titties, you can tighten it up a bit (or enlarge the muscle) but if you have shitty pecs or tits, you have shitty pecs or tits.

Thanks for the comment Kid Twist but I think your opinion is partially pure conjecture. I believe if you visualize and work toward a goal you'll achieve it, even if, it's only minor in appearance.

There's no argument about how genetics play a huge role in our limits of physical achievement but I also think that saying one can only achieve very little because of shitty genetics (when it pertains to exercise) is an excuse to not improve oneself.

Of course, we're humans and we have our limits but you won't know your body's limits until you try to reach for them, and I think your observation comes down to an individual basis.

I don't know who started it but Friday's have become synonymous with bicep and tricep workouts. Many believe it's because bros hit the gym on Friday afternoons & evenings, right before going out to impress the ladies with their blood-swole peaks and horseshoes.

It's an "arms" day without a doubt, and today's video, Jeff busts out his classic 'Muscle Highlighters' and demonstrates how targeting specific areas of the bicep for maximum swoleness for the perfect bicep exercises!

My "arms" workout today:

Barbell EZ-curls (Full motion): 4 sets of 5-8 reps (Heavy)
Alternating hammer dumbbell curls: 4 sets of 5-8 reps (Heavy)
Seated dumbbell wide-grip curls: 4 sets of 5-8 reps (Heavy)
Alternating wide and close grip pull-ups: 4 sets of 5-8 reps (Body weight)

Triceps:

Weighted dips: 4 sets of 5-8 reps (Heavy)
Close grip barbell bench press: 4 sets of 5-8 reps (Heavy)
Triangle cable exercise: 4 sets of 5-8 reps (Heavy)
Push-down cable rope exercise: 4 sets of 5-8 reps (Heavy)

Alright, tomorrow is Thanksgiving and I know most of us will probably be gorging ourselves to some sweet tune of food coma BUT you have one more workout to get in before you kiss all your hard work goodbye, just kidding. Seriously, gorge yourself gorgeous, you deserved it! And hopefully, you've been pounding away in the gym all year, and now, you finally get to settle down with a plate full of calories (and some second servings) of your family's good cooking.

Today's video by Delt Jockey Jeff Cavaliere is all about the BACK, baby! Let's bring it back one more time! Back! Back! Back! Okay, that's enough. Jeff is busting out our favorite muscle highlighters to help us understand how to target specific areas of our back for definition and put a focus on muscles that even I wasn't aware of! He goes beyond just the usual focus we put on the lat muscles. Here's the short list:

Traps (upper and lower)
Teres major
Rotator Cuff (three muscles)

I don't have a list of my normal back workout today because I'm going to implement some of what Jeff presents in today's video to my workout this evening.

As always... have a badass workout! Get that turkey! Get that turkey!

I have been silent since Thanksgiving but that's only because I'm, mostly, focused on studying and working 6 days a week.

Recently, I injured my (what I believe to be) rear left delt. Not sure how I injured it but it's made my workouts, less than, spectacular. I've had to resist doing heavy upper body workouts because of it, and every day that I can't work on my chest and arms, makes me feel like a weak, young child.

BUT, I continue to push forward. Constantly working to improve all facets of my life, and manifesting my mental tapestries into solidity.

On that note, I present today's Jeff the "Highlight" Cavaliere video on stretches that you should do every morning:

I like Jeff Cav but I prefer Jeremy Ethier. I just feel like the exercises he recommends make a lot more sense than the ones Jeff likes. Also, sometimes training "by science" is just code for "not working hard."

Sometimes gotta throw all this shit out the window and pay attention to how certain muscles feel during certain exercises. I had to really change shit up to see growth whereas some dudes grow just doing basic bench, squat, deadlift and rows.

All that said, Jeff is pretty cool. I wish I had his videos back when I was first starting out.

I will be checking my PMs weekly, so you can catch me there. I will not be posting.

I'll have a look at Ethier's stuff. Thanks for the recommendation.

Absolutely. Have to go with what your muscles are willing to attribute it's growth too. I have always tried to push myself but pay attention closely to my body's limitations and comfort zones.

^ I'm the same way. I like to go hard but sometimes (especially with shoulders) I have to perform work arounds. I'm very eager but I also would like to be able to raise my hands above my head well into the future, so I cut my losses there and lower the weight and focus on form.

Indeed, if only we were all gifted with the iron joints of true bodybuilders.

I ended up watching Ethier's video on full-body workouts. I will definitely watch more of his material.

I like that he's got a similar approach to exercise as Cavaliere.

Here's the full-body workout I watched, yesterday:

I know I haven't updated my thread since the end of January but I've been in recovery mode. In an earlier post, I mentioned that I injured my rear delt but never figured it out how it occurred.

The only thing I can think of that caused the tear or injury was from my jiu-jitsu training, which, I have also taken a break from because I have a suspicion that during a "jits" session I may have been in a certain position while sparring and it may have caused the injury but I didn't notice any discomfort until a day or two later.

Good news: Since I haven't been lifting or training in "jits" (resting for the past two months) I'm happy to report that my rear delt is feeling much better. It sucks that I had to take this much time off from training but I thought about it a lot and realized that this was a necessary thing for me to do, since, I am getting older (34 yrs old) and my body doesn't recover as quickly as it used to.

Just been making sure to eat right and stay on top of cardio so as not to lose stamina (jiu-jitsu demands a lot of cardio).

Below is Jeff's recommended ways to get ripped. Since spring is coming in hot you want to make sure you look 'beach body' ready, and no one does a better job of telling you how to do it then Mr. Cavaliere:

Jeff Cavaliere might be worth listening to but a guy with abs can sell literally anything fitness related. Since he doesnt seem to compete as an athlete for anything anywhere I'd take his advice with a grain of salt.
