Jeff Cavaliere might be worth listening to but a guy with abs can sell literally anything fitness related. Since he doesnt seem to compete as an athlete for anything anywhere I'd take his advice with a grain of salt.

So because he looks good with his shirt off and doesn't get up on a stage you shouldn't listen to him? Sounds like some backward ass logic. Cavaliere is generally regarded as the authority on smart/healthy resistance training and has a beefy resume of PT'ing professional athletes.

I personally would sooner follow his advice than some fat has-been powerlifter who set geared records 10+ years ago while cycling stacks of PEDs.

Not saying their aren't other guys out there who are offering awesome information on fitness training, but there are also a lot of other guys out there who warrant a lot of criticism for their advice and/or methodology. I really don't think Jeff is one of those guys.

Glad to hear you're enjoying the thread, so far. I've been injured the past few months but I'm feeling confident about returning to the gym this week and will begin putting up new content from Jeff's channel, and of course, my personal workouts.

First fitness channel I subscribed to and still the one I get most of the advice I find usable in my workout regimen.
Probably helps that that he's my age, is unlikely to be on gear (and probably not even TRT yet, I know he even has a video denying that, but obviously there are lots of roid monsters on YouTube claiming to be naturals so I don't necessarily jump to take anyone on their word) and has a strong background in physical therapy and lots of videos about and focus on handling injuries and using proper form (has become increasingly important since my late 30s with shoulders and elbows that can't take what they used to).

He might be skimping on handling out full training or diet programs for free as some have said, but I'm not looking for that kind of info. I've been putting together my own workouts - but regularly trying out or changing some exercises based on advice - since I first set foot in a gym 27 years ago and I'm unlikely to ever change that.

Only other fitness channel I regularly watch is VitruvianPhysique (he tends to post long videos less frequently) plus more rarely a few others like Omarlsuf and Buff Dudes (mostly for their joke videos).

Also the first fitness channel I subscribed to. Can't argue the science and he's thorough in his explanations. Love how each of his videos is short enough that I don't get bored, and the way he and Jesse say/do some hilarious shit. Secondly, I'm in the same boat as well, with regard to age. I went into the gym today (first time in months; injury), worked out for less than an hour and by the end of my regimen I nearly passed out. Didn't realize the brief hiatus from the gym would affect me so severely and I did not lift so heavy, either.

I'm a fan of Vitruvian Physique (I believe I posted one of his videos recently) and Buff Dudes are hilarious. Do you know the Hodge Twins? They're also hilarious-Love how they sit in their car, eat fast food and explain their foodie experience.

All right, fellow gym rats, listen up! It's been a while since I posted anything relevant to the thread but I finally attended gym "class" this morning and I got one word for it... BRUTAL.

I lifted for less than an hour and when I was finally done the fatigue hit me like a 20-foot wave. I nearly passed out from my lightweight regimen, granted, I have been out for some time, lost considerable muscle mass during that time and did a full body workout. I was on-the-brink of spilling my guts onto the gym floor on the way out, and I am glad I did not. Didn't want the hot babe who was eyeballing me from afar to think I couldn't handle a few barbell chest presses.

But enough about my disappointment. Here is today's full-body regimen:

8 a.m. -

10 minute warm-up on the treadmill: Speed 3 mph; incline set to 5 (Life Fitness machine)

5 minute warm-up stretch: various stretches; mostly jiu-jitsu oriented.

I always begin my full-body lifts with chest:

Dumbell Chest presses: 4 sets of 8-12 reps; incremental (5lb.) weight increases starting with 35 lbs- End at 50 lbs. with 45 sec. rest between sets.

Straight-Leg Deadlift: 4 sets of 5-8 reps; incremental (10 lb.) weight increases starting with 25 lbs- End at 45 lbs. with 45 sec. rest between sets.

Pull-up bar *Body weight*: 4 sets of 5-8 reps; 35 sec. rest between sets.

Seated-Incline chest press: 4 sets of 5-8 reps; incremental (10 lb.) weight increases starting with 25 lbs- End at 45 lbs. 45 sec. rest between sets.

Leg press *machine*: 4 sets of 6-10 reps; Starting weight 70 lbs- End at 170 lbs. [i]35 sec. rest[/] between sets.

Well, there you have it. All of that nearly caused me to lose my eggos.

Today's video by Jeff is another stunner! Focusing on chest and I have to say this is, by far, one of the best chest regimens I found. Jeff also has Oakland Raider's Antonio Brown featured in this video. Enjoy!

^ im a total noob but isnt doing the first few sets at a low weight essentially a waste of a set? I don't think you need to load up the sets like that. But i do wait longer between sets so maybe that's it. I also recall a video on youtube by someone (maybe athlean) saying get every set close to failure and dont worry about hitting the number of reps exactly.

The general idea for developing more size to your muscles is that you want to provoke a hypertrophic response. The way to do that is to adequately fatigue the muscle so the fibers breakdown and rebuild bigger and stronger. This is why hitting a certain number isn't always important but simply generating adequate breakdown of the muscle. This is also why when doing body-building type work out you don't want to sait super long in between sets. You want to burn the muscles out. This is why bodybuilders will hit the exact same muscle or muscle groups in a series of like 3-5 different movements to really break it down.

Thanks for the reply Beirut! You need to understand that I finally came back to the gym after months of recovering from a shoulder injury. So, right now, my workout regimens are easing me back in the right direction. I will not be lifting heavy as I used too until my muscles are ready for such stress.

As I progress, I will utilize this type of training. I haven't done workouts that push my muscles to fatigue in some time. I'll have to go about it carefully. Thanks for the advice.

Wait until you're over 40 and your joints are screaming for you to make two-thirds of your sets warm-up sets.

But even when I was much younger and less injury prone, progressive load through the sets always felt right to me, even if I did go for a higher number of heavy sets than I do now.
