I've never been to Macchu Picchu, how is it a fraud? Genuinely curious.

It is mostly recently rebuilt for tourists

This reviewer seems to get it.

That's too bad.

As someone who's very much into Mayan archaeology, I know that there are instances in which some structures have been rebuilt, but it's only been done by archeologists themselves and only if they feel confident that what they're doing is accurate (i.e. often there are multiple identical buildings, or long facades with simple patterns, such as at Uxmal or Chichen Itza which make putting the puzzle together easier). Other cases, such as the staircase of inscriptions at Copan, are an educated guess and only attempted with the help of the world's top archaeologists (or in this case epigraphers such as David Stuart), but they don't pretend to know if it's 100% accurate and don't claim it is. They're constantly going back too, if new evidence crops up in the corpus to prove them wrong (unless they're wrong but stubborn about it, like J. Eric Thompson).

Just roughly guessing and slapping it together would be a scam though.

Never been there but Machu Picchu is still pretty high on my bucket list. Yea it's a bit touristy but it's still about an 11-hour hike with the top being centered by one of the most beautiful inner mountain views I've ever seen. It might gravitate towards tourists, but you can't fake nature. However, I will agree that some people go do certain bucket list items just to check the box of doing an exotic adventure. Machu Picchu certainly fits the bill there, but in my case, there are certain wonders of the world I'm not nearly as interested in seeing as this. The Pyramids can arguably have the same case made because with all of the modern buildings and roads, it just looks like a movie set now.

As far back as I could remember, I always wanted to be a player.

Ranking the Types of Travelers we Meet Abroad

A message that is shared in a lot of asian expat groups these days from a German fempat that I wanted to share in here:

Why are all western men in Shanghai looking for Chinese girls? ? Hard to compete with them here I guess. Read a funny article that to find a boyfriend for a western girl in Shanghai is almost impossible. Crazy city!!!!

What you see in the reactions is mostly that the western chicks bash the white guys in Asia for being losers and they also bash Asian girls for being easy.

Thoughts on this?

My opinion: Looks like the frustration from western woman in Asia hits the fan these days lol

I just pack my bags pick a few spots that are next to each other so I can take a bus/train to and from spot to spot across Europe meanwhile crypto trading and making decent $ meanwhile I have lots of reserves siting in a safe outside the bank for when I return. I have been traveling for about 1 1/2 years now. In South America, to most I was a gringo (one chick hated when I was called gringo which I don't mind, she always referred to me as Norte Americano). Besides that I HATE the stereo typical American that is from New York or Cali(where anyone who you may talk to has most likely visited one or both of them). That think like they are the typical entitled brat. For instance, today.. I was sitting in a hostel couch with some other people talking then this chick (maybe a 6.5 but not chubby) walks in and says excuse me. One of the other guys says yes? She said, are you going to give me a seat because that sexist if you won't get up. I asked her would every single one of us(7 people) be sexist if we didn't get up because you preferred to sit on the couch where we happen to be versus when their was 3-4 others. She said no I was only talking to this guy (beta sitting on corner).. I ended up just leaving because I finished my work already. But besides in almost all over in South America I do not see too many tourists I run into that are American but then again I do always rent a Air BNB so its easier to lay pipe after I take a girl out.

It's always been like that, they become so bitter over time, most just don't last.

Below average western woman in Japan has a huge cry about it on this blog post:
http://www.vagabondish.com/female-foreign-japan/

Some of the comments are total gold though, guys definitely are calling her out on her entitled attitude and double standards:
Quote:Quote:

Wow, what a sexist comment. But it’s not unexpected after this grotesquely sexist read.

“Creepy” is a favorite word of misandrists seeking to delegitimize male sexuality.

How dare this “sub-value” man pursue an attractive woman! He is “creepy”!

Of course the writer of this article is not particularly attractive, and wants a date. (Did you read those pickup strategies?!) Was that creepy? No. That apparently is deserving of sympathy.

But not the male version. That’s “creepy”

Go away, Lauren. Take your sexism back to the West where it can continue to masquerade as feminism.

I'll try: degenerates like myself, here to have a good time.

Or: good guys that are hard workers, here to make a buck but still want decent fun (by American standards).

Can't believe you guys haven't touched on these two other groups often seen more and more frequently the world over:

Uncultured rich Russians

Usually attired in fashion from an alternate dimension of the American south. Fat dude with big belly, sow in hand, and a mullet sporting kid in tow. They go to places like Pattaya and Turkey for vacation. Their slightly more sophisticated young male versions in decked out fake or real Armani suits hitting up expensive clubs in large groups. Usually the one alpha guy has his model looking Russian girlfriend and the rest are thirsty betas. But be careful these guys are from Russia and won't hesitate to separate your retina from your eyeball and lose theirs in turn. Very drunk and obnoxious. Almost as bad as large groups of Ozzies.

Rich Chinese tourists
Either a group of middle aged couples in group tour with a flag carrying tour leader or a rich couple who has made a shit ton of money and now finally exploring the world. I've seen a lot of rich and fat chinese middle aged guys with plastic girls 8s in their arm. They are friendly and shy outside China, but deep inside you know they are kings of this little niche in China. They speak limited Engilsh but can be coaxed with friendly hellos and references to baijou.

As a bonus I've also run into duos or trios of...

Alpha Ozzie boys from the outback
They are rowdy, loud, drunk, and have no sense of fashion. Usually very tanned and wearing tank tops and flip flops and long blonde hair. Most of them are in good shape and they don't give a shit about anything. Chads in their own respect they demolish cheap beer by the gallons and also slam through local pussy wherever they go. Can be fun to hang out with them for a night at a hostel but dangerous to your health from the excessive drinking or fighting.

Positives can be that if you're into western girls, it can potentially make it easier to hook up with them abroad. Negatives can be they can be the most direct reminder of why you left your homeland in the first place.

Dating in Taiwan is tough.

I’ve dated around considerably more than I ever did in Poland, but the most dates I had with any one guy was four, and that was two too many.

When comparing the quality of Expats in Poland to Taiwan, Poland wins hands down. The Expats I met in Poland were significantly better educated, as a group. Doctors, lawyers, Indian Chiefs, you name it, Poland had it.

In Taiwan there are primarily three categories of English-speaking foreigners.

The first group, English teachers, have by far the worst reputations. The buxiban system of education in Taiwan has a life of its own. English teachers are in high demand in Taiwan both in the public schools and in Buxibans. No experience or teaching certifications are required to teach in most Buxibans, yet the money is good. Life here is easy for the foreign teacher. The Taiwanese are friendly, helpful and nice. Many of them are intensely curious about Westerners. The money is good. The teaching schedule is light compared with many other jobs. And, if you’re a male, the women are fascinated with you. All this attracts a certain type of Western male. Basically, the ones that are attracted to a life of ease without having to work for it. You see a lot of men here that couldn’t hack it in the West. Couldn’t get the jobs, couldn’t get the girls, couldn’t get the life. They drift over here like so much trash because its easy here, and unfortunately, here they stay.

The second group, students, are also numerous and live a charmed life. This population is varied, exciting, young, eager, and usually significantly more motivated and intelligent. This population can be but doesn’t have to be rife with men fascinated by Asian culture. The majority of foreign students are here to study Chinese. A predisposition toward the culture is inherent. There are many students who do study other topics, but they are not predominant. Most students come for a year, two, and their focus is their studies. I’m sure there are students hooking up all over the place, with Taiwanese girls and with each other, but again, this is a bit of a lark for most. A break from their permanent lives in the West.

The third group, are the American and British Born Chinese. They are called ABCs and BBCs. They have their own society and culture. Although thoroughly Westernized they retain their Asian family upbringing. They are often more shy when it comes to approaching women than your typical American white guy. They are often well-educated, well raised and here to explore their roots. Most that I have met are very respectful of women, and frankly, I find many of them to be quite attractive. But, as a friend or two have told me, they stick to their own, and they are significantly less likely to make the first move. Very annoying.

Men have no problem dating in Taiwan. If it’s not one woman, than its three falling all over themselves to get a Western man. They’re as much of a status object here as they are in Poland. More, truth be told. You could be the nastiest, scummiest, loserish bit of crap in your home country, yet, if you’re a man, here you’re treated like a movie star.

For Western women on the other hand…good luck. I haven’t found any that’s for sure.

I’ve been on any number of dates at this point and no success. The Western guys aren’t interested for the most part. Those that are rarely look for commitment.

The problems with dating are many. Taiwanese men are very shy and timid when it comes to Western women. They are very afraid to approach us, and generally, most will not. Taiwanese dating culture is very different from the west. In fact, most of my Taiwanese friends agree that there IS no dating culture in Taiwan. Couples get together by hanging out in large groups of friends, or often meet at work, through other social acquaintances, or their parents. The concept of going out on a date with someone relatively unknown is foreign to the Taiwanese lifestyle.

But I thought that you wanted commitment? Why is it so hard for you to go through the trouble of building a solid relationship slowly and respectfully with a decent man who doesn't chase slutty whores?

Quote:Quote:

Therefore, the flirting, the texting, the dating, the random hook ups, friend with benefit arrangements, and the whole culture that revolves around a Western dating lifestyle is lost on Taiwanese men.

So, what you are saying is that you aren't getting the free attention and ego boosts that you feel you deserve?

Quote:Quote:

Ultimately, the cultural gap is just too big for most Western women. Seriously, what would you do if it worked out? The expected role for a woman in Taiwan is considerably different, both in society and in the home, than for Westerners. What self-respecting Western woman would allow herself to become subsumed into male and family dominated Taiwanese culture? Who wants to be treated like a second class citizen after being raised to be a first?

Not this girl.

Like Poland, a Western woman must quickly realize that the majority of the Taiwanese male population simply isn’t for her. That leaves the Expats. Here we circle back to quality and quantity. Quantity should be self-explanatory. We are a minority. I’m sorry, but the quality of the Western men is not like it is in Europe. You have to sort through a lot of riffraff to meet anyone of quality. When you do, you’re fighting an uphill battle against their Asian fascination, transient lifestyle, and general lack of commitment.

Quote:Quote:

I won’t say that all Western men are like that here. I do have a lot of male friends that I respect and care about that I do not lump into that category. But it is still the vast majority.

And you simply aren't desirable enough to attract one of the ones you feel entitled to.

I'm definitely the Hardcore Sexpat type - Been in Asia since my early 20s, been reading RVF since 2009, bottom feeder, don't have any ego validation needs (therefore no obsession about "picking up 8 and 9s" - any hole will do). Can go native for months on end without talking to a fellow farang. Bankrupt in my home country. Over the years, living off a combination of English teaching, bank scamming, shitty online businesses, selling stuff on ebay/amazon and living off bitches when everything else fails. Personal interests include internet, cryptocurrency, cold beer and hot pussy. No intent to ever go back to the West. Nice to meet you [Image: biggrin.gif]
