Edit I thought it was funny because theres seemingly not so much as a whimper from the pro separatists. The cops taking control of the parliament building look like they could be stopping in for directions

Has there ever been any precedent where one region peacefully broke unilaterally off from a greater administrative body?
I am tempted to say Czech republic and Slovakia but I am afraid I am wholly ignorant of how the process developed.
