The thing I hate about the gun control argument is it seems like most people are either totally on one side or the other. There is a huge middle ground between banning all guns and letting everyone buy whatever gun they want with essentially no regulations. Why are so many on the pro gun side so against a national gun registry and increased background checks so people with a history of domestic violence, assault, mental instability, ect, aren't able to legally buy guns?
Obviously, automatic weapons are illegal, but it was reported that several other guns were found in his hotel room. It'll be interesting to see whether he legally owned those other ones and what his criminal history was.
The gun debate is simple. You can't get rid of guns. People can make guns in their garage. People can take semi-autos and tweak them into auto.
If you ban the commercial production of them, the peaceful lawful citizens will have none, while the people wanting to impose terrorism or do harm do have them, either homemade or illegally imported.
That is the way to handle a gun debate. That argument right there.
If you "outlaw guns", you'll have attacks like the Ariana Grande thing or Bataclan where it could have been prevented with an armed citizenry.
This country concert may have zero difference with or without gun laws, but the millions of other violent shootings (mass or one-off murders) will go on.
Let's play the outlaw gun scenario out. You can't have guns like in NYC. Well they have shootings, but that's because of the import of guns from other "wild west" states around them. Oh, so you think we won't get guns bleeding in from Mexico with a sieve of a border? Oh, so now you want to close up the borders? Alright, now let's spend a butt-load on making sure guns aren't imported (cue the drug war). Problem is, you have little garage gatherings and groups starting to make homemade guns. So now you start tracking and limiting the sale of potential gun-making equipment. Oh and the shells and casings. If you have those, jail. No slingshots either. Which means no rubber bands heavy enough to sling a shot?
Are you starting to see the infringement on basic freedoms?
