It was Nike who paid that $500K bribe to the chief of the International Cycling Union (UCI) in order to get Lance Armstrong off the hook for a positive drug test. I'm not sure if that investment paid off for them in the long run, but Armstrong still enjoys quite a bit of support in the cycling community for reasons I don't understand.

Armstrong has support because he doped, but didn't "cheat." Almost everyone in the Top 20, if not Top 50, doped during the years he won, so there's an argument to be made that he didn't cheat.

It wouldn't be humanly possible to win if he didn't use any performance enhancing drugs. Throughout his career he explained his performance by saying that he worked harder than the others and there's a lot of truth to that. Since almost everyone was doping, he was surely the best rider and his team ran the most successful doping program.

Another thing that may have given hope that he was clean was the cancer treatment. In cycling, a rider's Power-To-Weight ratio is crucial and many believed that his long cancer treatment may have taken some mass from his bones, thereby giving him a weight advantage in the hills.

Nike and thier virtue signalling. Nike, as a chief sponsor and partner with the NFL has the ability and power to get Roger Goddell in a boardroom and twist him with thier demands. The pressure of a Nike could get the NFL to reverse it's policies and end the supposed blacklisting of Kaperneck tomorrow. Instead, they push a glossy ad which ultimately they view as way to push to get some folks to buy some shoes. This reminds me of Nike being "bold" in having some girl with Hijab on when all they were doing was pimping product. Nike just wants hype and money, it has always been what they are about since they hit it big time out of the track fields in Oregan.

I have been listening to Youtube user Frame Game Radio recently on the Diversity Industry, and he is a lawyer, and he says that legally these companies are worried all the time about appearing to show any discrimination or disparate impact on their employees in this country, and that the only way to do that is to get ahead of it and show in your advertising and corporate manuals etc., that you are actively going out of your way not to be racist. He is claiming that the diversity industry is a trillion dollar industry that can destroy even Fortune 100 companies with a good discrimination suit.

This may have as much to do with anticipating future domestic diversity lawsuits as it does with China.

The argument that NFL is dying because of the fall of television power is fallacious.
Here in Brazil, TV ratings are also declining, but the national league of football (soccer) is stronger than ever.

On the surface, it seems that no company would try to lose a billion dollars; however, a lot of companies can no longer make decisions that center on financial gain. The reason is that they've being cannibalized by the forces of Cultural Marxism: i.e. affirmative action, bloated HR departments, the fear of lawsuits, etc. Take Disney for example. Years ago, Walt was constructing a family park for America. Today, Disneyland has a Faggot Day and feminist cartoons. His dream is dead.. killed by the degeneracy of the far left.

I bet this decision has nothing to do with finance; but instead, it was about appeasing an SJW oligarchy in the Nike boardroom.

Nike, NFL, and Levis Strauss Political Business Strategy – The Much Bigger Geopolitical and Trade Picture….
https://theconservativetreehouse.com/201...e-picture/

On its face, it just seems absurd. Why would any major corporation intentionally stake out a branding position that is adverse to their financial interests?

...
Can you see what’s happening?

Those corporations make calculated moves - at times however it backfires. The Pepsi-Antifa ad with Kyle Jenner was just dumb.

Whether this strategy by NIKE was more calculation than another of those dumb decisions remains to be seen.

For example - after researching the Starbucks issue and the Diversity Industry scope (worth 1 trillion / year in the US) as well as how Starbucks bribes the Diversity Industry to squeeze out competition in city areas and promote gentrification (thus making subsequently much more cash in real estate than in coffee), then I realized that Starbucks did not cuck. Starbucks made a few excuses, paid off the perps and the industry with tens of millions and it was cheaper than getting clobbered with 500 mio. $ lawsuits or getting nation-wide 15$/minimum-wage laws enacted.

It was a business decision by an essentially predatory company. Nike will be fine of course, but I am not sure whether this step is an alignment with the far-left. Who knows.

I feel less optimistic about the NFL though - if they go down that route cheered on by an ever more far-left ESPN, then they will have turnover losses year after year. NIKE is in a much better position than the NFL.

Taya Kyle, Widow of American Sniper, to Nike: ‘You Exhaust My Spirit’

Taya Kyle, widow of Navy SEAL Chris Kyle, whose life was memorialized in the movie American Sniper, had a message for Nike on its latest ad campaign featuring Colin Kaepernick: “You exhaust my spirit on this one.”

Nike is drawing flak from conservatives and others for its newest “Just Do It” ad campaign featuring the former 49ers quarterback, who famously refused to stand for the American flag during the national anthem, with the text: “Believe in something, even if it means sacrificing everything.”

Kyle lost her husband — a famed Navy SEAL sniper for his number of enemy kills and protecting other troops on the battlefield — in 2013 after he was killed by a former Marine he had planned to take shooting as part of his volunteer work to help veterans.

Kyle, in a Facebook post on Tuesday, wrote: “Nike, I love your gear, but you exhaust my spirit on this one.” She questioned exactly what Kaepernick was “sacrificing,” when he was likely receiving a lucrative Nike contract.

She wrote:

Your new ad with Colin Kapernick, I get the message, but that sacrificing everything thing…. It just doesn’t play out here. Sacrificing what exactly? A career? I’ve done that both times I chose to stay home and be with my kids instead of continuing my business climb… and it wasn’t sacrificing everything. It was sacrificing one career and some money and it was because of what I believe in and more importantly, who I believe in.

At best, that is all Colin sacrificed… some money and it’s debatable if he really lost his career over it. Maybe he sacrificed the respect of some people while he gained the respect of others. Or maybe he used one career to springboard himself into a different career when the first was waning. I don’t know. What I do know is, he gained popularity and magazine covers he likely wouldn’t have gotten without getting on his knees or as you say, “believing in something.” I’m also thinking the irony is that while I am not privy to the numbers, it’s likely he gained a lucrative Nike contract. So yeah… that whole “sacrificing everything” is insulting to those who really have sacrificed everything.

You want to talk about someone in the NFL sacrificing everything? Pat Tillman. NFL STARTING, not benched, player who left to join the Army and died for it. THAT is sacrificing everything for something you believe in.

How about other warriors? Warriors who will not be on magazine covers, who will not get lucrative contracts and millions of followers from their actions and who have truly sacrificed everything. They did it because they believed in something. Take it from me, when I say they sacrificed everything, they also sacrificed the lives of their loved ones who will never be the same. THAT is sacrificing everything for something they believe in.

Did you get us talking? Yeah, you did. But, your brand recognition was strong enough. Did you teach the next generation of consumers about true grit? Not that I can see.

Taking a stand, or rather a knee, against the flag which has covered the caskets of so many who actually did sacrifice everything for something they believe in, that we all believe in? Well, the irony of your ad..it almost leaves me speechless. Were you trying to be insulting?

Maybe you are banking on the fact we won’t take the time to see your lack of judgement in using words that just don’t fit. Maybe you are also banking on us not seeing Nike as kneeling before the flag. Or maybe you want us to see you exactly that way. I don’t know. All I know is, I was actually in the market for some new kicks and at least for now, I’ve never been more grateful for Under Armour.

College of the Ozarks Drops Nike over Kaepernick Ad Campaign

A college in Missouri has decided to “choose its country over company,” and do away with all athletic uniforms which display the Nike logo.

The College of the Ozarks in Point Lookout, Missouri, has chosen to part ways with Nike over the company’s decision to make anthem protester Colin Kaepernick, the face of their new ad campaign.

“In their new ad campaign, we believe Nike executives are promoting an attitude of division and disrespect toward America,” College of the Ozarks President Jerry C. Davis explained.

“If Nike is ashamed of America, we are ashamed of them. We also believe that those who know what sacrifice is all about are more likely to be wearing a military uniform than an athletic uniform.”

This is not the first time the small private Christian college has taken a stand on the anthem issue. In October of 2017, the school made it a policy that all coaches and players had to show respect for the anthem.

According to KMBC:

Dr. Marci Linson, vice president of patriotic activities and dean of admissions at the college, oversees patriotic activities and safeguards the college’s patriotic goal: to encourage an understanding of American heritage, civic responsibilities, love of country and willingness to defend it.

‘Nike is free to campaign as it sees fit, as the college is free, and honor-bound by its mission and goals, to ensure that it respects our country and those who truly served and sacrificed,’ Linson said.

NBC plans to air the first commercial of Kaepernick’s new ad campaign on Thursday night, during the NFL season opener.

Poll: Nike Favorability Crashes 34% with Kaepernick Ad Campaign

A poll from Morning Consult shows devastating results for Nike’s brand favorability, in the days after making Colin Kaepernick the face of their new ad campaign.

According to the poll via Axios, Nike’s numbers “dropped 34 points from a net +69 favorable impression (76% favorable, 7% unfavorable) among consumers to a net +35 favorable impression (60% favorable, 24% unfavorable).”

These numbers are nothing short of devastating for Nike, and with no other news worthy of note, there’s no explanation for the sudden decline other than the company’s commitment to Kaepernick.

According to Axios:

While Nike could face negative purchasing consideration as a result of the campaign, experts argue the sports goods giant likely calculated these risks and deemed that it wouldn’t impact its bottom line significantly, despite any short-term pushback.

According to the poll, before Nike announced Kaepernick as the face of its ad campaign, only 2% of Americans reported hearing something negative about Nike recently. That number increased to 33% after the announcement.
The poll also found that purchasing intent was down after the announcement.
Earlier Morning Consult polling shows that brands have relatively little upside in wading into issues that involve President Trump.

Another key finding of the poll was that Nike’s favorability not only didn’t improve among African Americans, it actually declined. This finding is particularly devastating considering it was widely reported that Nike decided to embrace Kaepernick, in part, to increase their already considerable appeal among blacks.

The report features over 8,000 interviews conducted among American adults, including 1,694 interviews pre-campaign launch (8/26/18 – 9/3/18) and 5,481 interviews post-campaign launch (9/4/18 – 9/5/18). Additionally, Morning Consult conducted a study among 1,168 adults in the U.S. about Nike’s ad and the decision to choose Kaepernick as the face of the campaign.

< Anyone thinking that this won't impact Nike should remember this:

The ones who share the politics and are spending big on NIKE apparel are not going to be affected.

But if the number of those who absolutely boycott everything NIKE, then this will impact them heavily. The SJWs won't be buying more NIKE and the urban market likely won't care much.

Frankly this looks more like another Pepsi crap and no Chinese negotiation crap.

One thing that got buried in the news is that Kap's lawyers have been allowed to get out of arbitration and to take his case against the NFL to trial.

If you check out the latest Reasonable Doubt Podcast (episode 161), his lawyer Mark Geragos discusses it.

Basically, it could completely upend the NFL.

NFL opener between Eagles, Falcons nets lowest TV ratings in 10 years

https://triblive.com/sports/nfl/14056070...n-10-years

Quote:Quote:

The trend continues.

The weather-delayed kickoff of NFL season drew a 13.4 overnight TV rating, according to NBC, the league's lowest rating in 10 years for a season-opener.

The game between the Super Bowl-champion Philadelphia Eagles and Atlanta Falcons was delayed about a half hour because of severe weather around Philadelphia.

The Steelers-Patriots opening game in 2015 was the highest-rated season opener over the past six seasons at 17.7

The numbers have fallen each season since then.

The Decline continues 2018 - [Image: troll.gif]

"The Heavens did not seem well disposed to the official beginning of the NFL season last night, as rain and possible lightning in the City of Brotherly Love pushed back the start of the Philadelphia Eagles gridiron battle against the Atlanta Falcons.

With only Eagles defensive end Michael Bennett taking to the bench in protest during the national anthem, when things finally did kick off on NBC just after 9 PM ET, it certainly didn’t seem to be the most inspiring game. At one point, tell-it-like-it-is Philly fans were booing the current Super Bowl champs on live TV for their lame efforts on the field.

Then, as it looked like Atlanta would be grinding out a win, the action really started right near the end as the Eagles dusted off a variation of their Super Bowl move the Philly Special. With some quick moves, QB Nick Foles snagged a 15-yard pass from teammate Nelson Agholor on a reverse to seal an 18-12 victory for the Eagles and some respect from the more than just the fans at Lincoln Financial Field.

Sadly, that glory did not translate into the ratings

With a 13.4/5 in the metered markets, the post-midnight ending game is down 8% from last year’s kickoff of September 7, 2017. In one of the lowest season openers ratingswise and facing portions of a cable news-covered rally by a very NFL critical President Donald Trump, last night’s game is not only down from last year, but 2016, 2015 and 2014 – all of which saw successive declines.

To add more injury to that, the 2017 8:42 PM ET-starting season opener between the victorious Kansas City Chiefs and New England Patriots ended up with a weak 7.7/29 rating among adults 18-49 and 21.8 million viewers. That was a double digit decline from 2016 and the worst total audience an opening game had since 2009."

Word everywhere is just how low enrollments are for youth football across the country. I heard of a high school not too far away from me that closed it's football program due to a lack of interested players.

Forget about all the Kapernick shit. That's the real threat right there to the NFL, not politics.

Could we see NFL end up being as small as hockey is? Who knows but it is headed in that direction.

There are probably 3 reasons for it:

1) Youth too lazy now with all the tech to do sports
2) Youth too fat to even start
3) Change in demographics - the best raw genetic materials for the sport have blacks, then Whites and Samoans for certain positions - since they are getting less and less as averages of the population, then not only the potential roster is getting smaller, but also the interest of those kids in the sport - in the households

However - what could become more popular in the future USA is soccer - many South Americans, Africans, Middle Eastern newcomers are into it from their homecountries. So who knows - maybe in 30-40 years the US will have a very competitive soccer team and even win championships.

The NFL will likely continue to fall with the peak having been reached - also partly due to demographics - everyone forgets that. When those who are into the sport for generations are becoming less, then it is just natural.

It's the head injury/dangerous scare. Think about how many single mothers run house holds now and don't want their precious special sons doing that. In the past the father would have said "let the boy play if he wants to. It'll do him good."

Plus sports partipation is low in all sports. For most kids up until 10 they have to combine girls and boys not for progress but because the numbers are so low. It's at least in half across the board.

This is very true. I'm heavily involved with the local sports scene and culture in my part of the US, and recently decided to investigate concussion's effect on youth football. People are dropping like flies. I've seen youth football programs forced to merge, fold completely, have high schools that have been playing football for 100 years forced to forfeit games or in extreme cases their entire program due to declining participation, so it is a big problem. One athletic director in my area personally told me 10 years ago his school could easily field 60 players, now they barely get 30 a year. Another school near me forfeited games this year after fielding maybe 20 guys on their varsity roster. Some states are already talking about banning tackle football for kids under 12.

An old college professor of mine was the first to really tell me directly that football is going to die next generation, and it will be from the ground up. The big time money makers like the NCAA and the NFL will be fine for a while, but the local areas that don't have nearly as much disposable income or number of boys available like youth football and high school will have a tougher time surviving. With the rule changes in higher levels though, football will be changed into either a flag football sport in 20-30 years or it will just drop off completely and be deemed gladiator-like. It will come sooner than we think and most people I tell this to think I'm crazy and that the NFL is too big to fail.

The Kap stuff is a sideshow. That will not destroy the league. Baseball survived racially fueled debates like Jackie Robinson and the NFL is much bigger. Truthfully, I think the theory thrown in this thread a few days ago was accurate on this about it being more about Nike's position in China plus maybe erasing the memory of the sweatshop scandal as a bonus.

But, that's another topic. I've explored sports hitting their peak a while back in this thread and I do believe we have reached it. Sports will continue to decline almost entirely across the board, with football being the face because of how rapid it is along with them being kings of the playground right now. Make no mistake about it though, concussions will not go away from sports in general as an issue. Hockey is another big sport that will become a target once more people start looking to see if there's a correlation in other sports (there is). Wrestling, boxing, and other fighting sports will see their day and hell, the girls won't be immune either. One study I saw actually said girls' soccer has the highest percentage of players that get recorded concussions. Very wide margin from the boys in the same sport.

It is a very interesting time in the world of sports and as a fan plus making part of my income from the sports business, I can't say I'm not concerned for the future of sports... all the more reason to move abroad right?

As far back as I could remember, I always wanted to be a player.
