When they go stiff its not the implants but rather the scar tissue that can build up around them. Implants are a foreign body after all, and if the chicks body doesn't fully "accept" them, then the body will try to "encapsulate" the implant over a period of a few years

In order to avoid this after implants chicks are usually given a routine of massage that if done daily will break up the scar tissue and keep the tit and implant contained in it all supple and soft. If they don't keep this up then the build up gets to a point where it becomes super painful to try and break the tissue down. Once that happens the chick usually doesn't bother anymore and the tits get rigid. If they can afford it they usually go back and get a new set along with scar removal.

Its sort of like having to rebuild or overhaul an engine every few hundred thousand miles
