The other day, one of my STEM-field friends innocently mentioned NDT and Nye and how great they were. He enthused in particular about some recent show where one of them brought on Will Wheaton as part of the routine.

Naturally, a rant ensued. He was completely unaware that NDT the astronomer didn't complete his astronomy degree and has a nearly non-existent academic portfolio. Was also unaware that Bill Nye only has a bachelor's in mechanical engineering, or that he's abruptly turned 180 and started pushing the tranny agenda, abandoning reason and science in favor of the Socially Approved Truth on the matter.

You know, we used to have science popularizers like Feynman and Sagan, men who (though they too pushed the received wisdom on certain topics) were significant in their respective fields. Sagan consulted and worked with accomplished scientists like Frank Drake and Ann Druyan. Now we have these two jokers, who frolic with asshats like Shut Up Wesley whose only STEM qualification was playing the single most despised character in a sprawling 'science fiction' franchise - one infamous for its tenuous-at-best acquaintance with any actual science concepts.

There are others out there: try Brian Cox, who is at least pleasant to listen to on the subject and isn't a crusty Baby Boomer like Nye. Cox unfortunately suffers from the same global warming delusions as most of the scientific caste, but he at least stays the fuck out of gender bullshit and stays pretty much entirely in space. I respect him for the fact he refuses to call himself an atheist but has no personal faith.

I think geeks in general are more vulnerable to this sort of brainwashing from the SJW ideas that is pushed in pop culture since they spend an unusual amount of time on mentally inhabiting these fantasy/sci worlds. A good part of pop media these days is infected with SJWism but geek media such as superheroes comics and such is especially cancerous when it comes to that. Most people have at least slight exposure to nerd material these days but normal people will typically go watch Wonder Woman, say it's a good movie, and then move on with their lives. Geeks on the other hand will invest a good part of their time into obsessing over whatever fandom they're into at the time and hereby expose themselves more to agenda that the creators of these materials are trying to push.

Look at how many of these geek universes have a storyline that are based on the plucky freedom underdogs fighting against the faceless, fascist baddies that want to enslave and oppress everyone. Star Wars, Avatar: The Last Airbender, the list goes on and on. This sort of stuff allows these geeks to imagine they are so some courageous resistance fighter against the empire when they are out protesting Trump when in reality they're just some fat blue-haired landwhale in an ugly pink hat.

I'm a historian in my non-forum life. Tyson is so ignorant of the history of science that he routinely makes dumb ass remarks that do little but piss people off.

Suggesting that Galileo's trial was solely motivated by religious factors, or that science and religion are inexorably in conflict, are both jokes among professional historians. Nobody argues either one of those things anymore, simply because they're so evidently wrong.
