A lot of American cities also have this overbearing local pride that can get annoying (NY, Boston, Chicago come to mind immediately) especially regarding sports or local food. Then you have smaller cities that Portland or Austin where local pride is a way of life, it can be rather cult-like.

Having been to every major city in the US, the only 2 that don't have that going on are LA & Las Vegas.

Because nobody is actually "from" LA or Vegas. They are tourist/vacation towns really (Vegas more so than LA, and LA is essentially a number of cities artificially grouped together anyway). Hard to have a lot of local pride when you've lived there less than 5 years.

Cities I've lived in: Houston, Los Angeles, NYC. The rest I'm going to mention I've visited at least once and many several times.

Houston: My hometown. The weather is phenomenally bad, and that's after me having taken a much lighter view of it. The winter can get below freezing, and the summer is not only hot as fuck, but humid beyond anything I've ever experienced. If you're a guy that sweats more than average but still not a crazy amount, by the time you park your car and walk into any venue whether night or day you will be covered in a layer of sweat. There are very few days of good weather (true springlike), maybe 30 in a good year. The nightlife is really stale, tame, and boring IMO, and it's generally a Friday/Saturday night thing. It is starting to get expensive to live here, no longer the great deal it once was. A car is a must if you truly want to live here long term as it is very spread out. The positives are that there are LOTS of good looking women relative to the size of the population, particularly if you like minorities. If you like big round asses, I've never seen a better place aside from maybe Miami. Also if you can afford it the best nightlife is in a relatively centralized area inside interstate 610 (I'm not talking several streets of bars, but rather different areas within 10-15 minutes driving of one another).

NYC: I lived in the ghetto areas of BK and above 96th in Manhattan. This has to be THE best, if not top 2 or 3 cities for game in America if you live in Manhattan. You can literally stand on a street corner and have girls walk by you that you can approach. Lots of girls from all over the world visit and want to get wild if you want those flags, as I do. The nightlife is huge, and you can walk down streets lined with bars/clubs that are so packed with people that you can barely make your way through them (good ratios as well). There is also a lot to do for fun besides gaming if you find your way into a niche. The cons are mainly the weather, the expense, and the transportation system. Yeah I know you're going to say the transportation is awesome/the best in the US. Try walking in the rain or snow 5-10 minutes to a subway stop, going up and down stairs, riding from BK into Manhattan for 45 minutes and then switching trains and having to wait. Also you often have to stand up the whole time during rush hour, even if your commute is over an hour. The winters are horribly cold, and the summers humid and hot (similar to Houston but less hot and slightly less humid). The expense is obvious. Even 100k after taxes doesn't leave you entirely comfortable in Manhattan.

Los Angeles: Great weather and you'll find people from all over the world living here. Beaches aren't terrible or great, but they're there. Having a car means you don't have to tire yourself out walking everywhere like in some places, but you also have to sit in traffic forever (one of the worst cities in the US for traffic). This forum seems to trash LA girls a lot for being superficial and having incredible standards, but in my experience having a high level body is enough to make your dating life function. The thing is, you have to have something going for you here, whether your body, your face, your money, your job, your connections... something! You can't just be an average looking average paid guy that lives in the San Fernando Valley and expect to kill it here or even do decent. But once you have something going for yourself it isn't terrible. Oh, and in terms of looks, there are plenty of hot girls in LA, but the reputation is way over hyped.

Austin, TX: A young atmosphere where everyone is trying to have fun. It isn't a big city, but it punches above its weight in terms of nightlife and hot young things walking around in general. Slightly expensive as far as TX goes, but not unbearably so. The weather sucks here as well much like Houston, but it is much much less humid. Honestly if young (mainly white) girls are your thing, this is a decent place for you. I was just there this weekend, and it seemed like every place we tried to go eat was closed by 3pm, but the bars were pretty full even in the afternoon on a Sunday. SXSW is also supposedly layup after layup, although I haven't been.

San Antonio, TX: Just no. It gets some tourism because of the Alamo and the River Walk, but it is pretty much your standard mid sized city that doesn't really stand out otherwise. Huge Latin population, particularly Mexican and Central American. I don't recommend living here.

Dallas, TX: I hate this place with everything in me. There is supposedly a rivalry between Houston and Dallas, but that isn't why I hate it. It has just always felt like a more tame, boring, and small version of Houston to me, and I already think Houston is each of those things.

Miami: I've only visited for a short time, and I don't know what the reality of living there is like, but this is one of the few cities in America that I would love to live in at the very least for a couple of years. Weather isn't bad at all, beautiful women all over, a great place to party, and I am just in love with Miami Beach in general. Again, it might be different actually living there, but it seems awesome.

Boston: Was here for school for a short time. I didn't get a good feeling about the townies here, they seemed sadistic to put it bluntly. Cambridge is cool and teaming with young girls, but beware they tend to be at least a bit more stuck up about their intellectual abilities than say Austin. For some reason I saw a ton of hot Brazilian women in Medford. Lots of hot Irish and Italian descendants around the city as well.

Those are the cities I have enough experience with in the US to have an opinion on.

This is just depressing. NYC is out of the question for most of us who don't make 200k a year or more or simply don't want to spend that living somewhere.

Is Houston really that bad with the weather? Fuck I was thinking of checking that place out. I hate LA but I don't know if there's anywhere better for me. Chicago and it's bitter cold? FUCK i hate when it goes below 60 let alone what Chicago cold/wind is like. Miami?

Leaving us with.... I don't even know what.

Maybe it's best to move to a tier 3 city for excellent cost of living and ability to invest in cheap real estate? Anyone have any experience with tier 3 cities like Columbus OH, Indianapolis, Minneapolis, Charleston, Athens, Charlotte, Raleigh??

I mean the US seems like such a bad value for men at this point might as well just stack paper in a cheap city until I can make it international it feels like. All I want is a nice, cheap, walkable downtown with okay nightlife and the ability for me to make money working in software sales.

I like nice and warm people. I get the impression because of my previous job that southern people are very nice, and people from the northwest, say portland and seattle can be even nicer. Please correct me if I'm wrong but the northeast is pretty dull, cold and sad, I speak as a foreigner who's never set a foot in the USA.

People from the Pacific Northwest (Seattle, Portland) can be absurdly polite to the point where you hate them for it. At a four-way stop, they'll insist you advance first, regardless of who got there first.

Northeast culture tends to be more direct and efficient, which can seem brusque at first. The last salad place I went to in midtown NYC had a line out the door but it moved fast because they have it down to a science.

The last time I was in Texas, I was looking for a particular hamburger joint but I could only find their competitor (also a hamburger place), so I dipped in there and asked them how to get to their competitor's location. They cheerfully went into the back office and printed me out directions. Southern hospitality!

Then Austin, and northwest is the place I want to go someday. Thanks for the info man.

^ The Pacific Northwest is known for politeness on the surface, hard to make lasting friends and hard to warm up.

I've known and been friends temporarily with several Seattle natives as well as Oregonians. I've been to Portland and Seattle.

In the U.S. it is renown for being a place that is very hard for transplants to make friends. Also known as the most passive aggressive culture in the U.S.. I would not go there. Southern California people are extremely warm and friendly on the surface, I would never recommend coming here to find long-lasting genuine people. There is a huge difference between the surface and what is underneath.

If you want more genuine & friendly the southern states including places like Texas & Tennesee, and the Midwest (Great Lakes Region) are the best.

It's kind of refreshing though, especially if you're used to a place where local pride is basically tantamount to a cult, which is most US cities.

DWB, how have you been, bro?!

The "needing 200k" to live in NYC is a myth. Could not be further from the truth, lol. A studio in midtown or downtown costs a very high 3k/month which means you can get by on 100k/year. Now, if you're smart and you venture to Queens (a mere 30 minute subway ride to midtown Manhattan), you can get a studio for as low as $1,300/month. Still NYC. And using the tried and true 36x rule, you would only need to earn $47k/year to afford to live in NYC. Now, if you were open to having a roommate, you could live in NYC for under $1k/year. It won't be a glamorous neighborhood but it still slaughters being flaked on ALL the time and sitting in horrific LA traffic...not to mention a 30 min. subway ride is no biggie.

The median income in NYC is barely over $50k/year (median household income in Brooklyn is $45k). There's a lot more to NYC than just SoHo. Literally millions of people live in NYC on a run-of-the-mill wage.

Also, if Chicago is too cold, then how come you're considering Columbus, Indy, and Minneapolis? Heck, Minneapolis is so cold, it makes Chicago feel like Me-Ah-Me!

Man figuring out the US is too hard. Too many things to consider and no place has em all. Whether it's cost of living, weather, urban sprawl, political affiliations, racism, bible thumpers, or career opportunities there's no place that has it all. Fuck I'm really trying to figure this out.

I just wanna stack paper, invest, and fuck/date bitches every now and then in a nice walkable neighborhood and still have a nice corporate sales job. Is that so much to ask?!?!?

I thought about Phoenix, AZ but then I'd be living in 100 degree weather 8 months a year instead of cold weather weather 8 months a year plus I would need a car plus I'd be in a subpar city to Chicago.

Houston's on the table still but apparently the weather there is horrible too? Shit maybe Charlotte or Philly but I heard Philly sucks for black guys.

Why the fuck does the US suck so much??!? Great for making money but hard to balance a good lifestyle. You really gotta pay to play in the US in more ways than one.

You bring up some great points. The US is a tough nut to crack.

Urban sprawl is the worst of those. Well, not as bad as racism, lol, but bad logistics are a player's worst nightmare. Yeah, cross Phoenix off your list. Too hot. Too much sprawl. Best to take the car out of the equation. I would nix Houston, too. Awful traffic and sprawl and it feels even hotter than Phoenix due to the extreme humidity.

Not sure what to make of Charlotte. I've heard it's nice but it's still very sprawling. You'd definitely need a car. At least the traffic isn't so bad since it's a smaller metropolitan area.

No clue if that's true but it sounds hard to believe. I'll be in Killadelphia in a couple weeks (RIP Los Mangeles, bay-bee!). I'll let you know how it goes!

Yeah, the US is definitely a mixed bag.

I still say Chicago is the undisputed best "bang for your buck" city in America. Endless amenities, excellent logistics, excellent day and night game, excellent quantity of women, great quality of women, Lake Michigan, beaches, parks, and you can get an apartment in a great neighborhood for under $1k/month. You just have to stomach the dong-numbing cold in January and February. [Image: wink.gif]

Yeah and if I wanna maximize my income and earning potential I'd probably have to live in a tier 2 city at minimum. Only city that might give more bang for my buck is ATL but I'm not down with the wanna be Hollywood/stripclub/real housewives subculture. Plus more sprawl once again.

Urban sprawl will always be a killer like you said.

Yeah, ATL is garbage for day game, I've heard, has nightmarish logistics, and a laughable 2 AM closing time. That being said, I've heard the big booty shorties there are quite scrumptious!

Also, in the ATL, you'd be spending $6k/year on transportation (car, gas, insurance) as opposed to $1k/year on transportation in a Chicago or a Philadelphia (subway/train). So slightly less on rent in Atlanta but a lot more on transportation.

Liberal cities are better overall. They are nicer, cleaner, more organized and more civilized. Funner things to do. Yeah they are higher in taxes, but I feel like there's better health care. I feel like rural areas are way too poor. They almost look like a third world country.

If you HAD to live in the US, which city would you choose?

I have spent significant time in:
DC, Boston, Miami, Baltimore, New Orleans, Los Angeles, NYC, Austin, Denver, Tampa, and Raleigh.

I honestly thought there was something to like about all of those places - I'm married now and not as down on a lot of these cities as guys who are still single. What I would recommend would depend totally on the person.

My favorites are Raleigh, Austin, Denver, but that's kind of my scene.

New Orleans was great for a time but wouldn't live long term - too dangerous, not enough industry. LA and NYC were fun for a time but would never, ever live long term - too busy, too liberal, too expensive, too much hassle.

DC is too liberal and too expensive for me but has a lot of perks, great lifestyle if you can afford it. Boston had a similar dynamic but too cold.

I'm in Miami now and it feels a bit like living abroad but is great; I feel like some of the problems you guys find with American girls wouldn't apply here. Girls are materialistic but approachable. Not a lot of LTR material but a lot of girls you'd enjoy having fun with. Weather is great. Doesn't feel like a long term city to me unless you're hispanic yourself.

Honestly even Baltimore was fun as long as you stuck to the right areas, even single.

Any city is just what you make of it. Modern cities are so big that you'll be able to find what you're looking for. The limiting factors to me are weather, jobs, cost of housing - the day to day stuff all the big cities have enclaves of stuff that would suit most people.

I'll probably wind up in Raleigh long term.

Talk more bout Raleigh. Give me the rundown

If you HAD to live in the US, which city would you choose?

Phoenix, AZ (with emphasis on Scottsdale, Arizona): Nice weather, good ladies, concervative state, lower taxes, lower prices, better bang for the buck.

Liberal cities are better overall. They are nicer, cleaner, more organized and more civilized. Funner things to do. Yeah they are higher in taxes, but I feel like there's better health care. I feel like rural areas are way too poor. They almost look like a third world country.

Better healthcare? What are you talking about? Are you on public healthcare subsidies or something? Or do you have a family to worry about or serious health issues?

Healthcare seems like a weird metric to rate a city on for a forum about getting laid.

Also "liberal cities" is kind of a misnomer. Almost ALL cities are liberal, even the ones in the middle of traditionally red states. There are very few major cities that aren't liberal.

Though I will agree living in an area with a bunch of racist low brow bible thumpers is not appealing to me. And that goes for whether they're black or white.

Guess I better get used to those Chicago winters if I want to escape California. Seattle, Denver, Boston etc are all off the radar for me.

Too many white liberals, way too much of a SWPL vibe, too many hipsters, too many homosexuals, too many breweries. For some reason I've found white liberal hipsters and beer culture aren't good for me and my style of game.

I already live in a super liberal "gay" city I don't want to move to another one.

@bulldog: Phoenix has nice weather? Nice weather is 100 degree dry heat 8 months out of the year? Last time I was in Phoenix I couldn't even stand being outside for more than 5 minutes at a time. It's insane.

Is europe really better than NYC? I just moved to manhattan and it's hard to believe that europe could be better than here. Mabye for finding a wife, but for spreading your seed as far and wide as possible, NYC seems hard to beat.

Of course I've never been to europe yet.. but I am going to visit bulgaria in july.

For sheer density of fit, attractive women in their 20s and 30s who are DTF and killer logistics, I think NYC is hard to beat. If you begin to tire of SNLs and want girls that you can tolerate for more than a few dates, head East.

For quality of women for longer term relationships, I am starting to agree with the general consensus that:

Eastern Europe > Western Europe > Eastern US > Western US

For ease of getting laid, you can just about reverse that (excluding Western US).

Obviously I'm painting with a broad brush, there will always be exceptions.

I have noticed this correlation too. It's a shame, because I enjoy high quality beer (just can't stand "beer culture"). The cities that are obsessed with beer tend to be ultra-liberal and have subpar women. Weird.

Yeah something about ultra liberal cities is anti-game maybe it's because they're such strong feminists and anti-masculinity. I would never want to live in a liberal wasteland like San Francisco, Seattle, Portland or Boston. I'd rather live in Africa. Dead serious.

Something about white liberal chicks really puts me off. Maybe the complete lack of submissiveness and femininity. I can't quite put my finger on it.

Settled down with girl:
Denver / Boulder / Ft. Collins (Front Range) - nice genuine people, weather is moderate, outdoor activities, good place to raise kids, up & coming

Single:
New York City
San Diego
Santa Barbara
Boulder

Mix:
Chicago - downside of Chicago is I don't think you get as hot of girls as easily as other single places I mentioned, and to raise family you deal with the winters and lack of outdoors weather & nature compared to other places.

SENS Foundation - help stop age-related diseases

I lived in Mahattan for 7 years. I think Manhattan is the best city in the world but in order to live there comfortably, you need to make at least 150k.

You can get same standard of living in Europe for 50k.

100%.

Even cities in conservative states are insanely liberal.

Atlanta and Austin come to mind.

Man, ultra liberal white women are the worst. They're more concerned about coming off witty and snappy than coming across feminine. The worst part is they'll whine and complain about the need for gender equality, all while MAKING guys pay for all their stuff. lololol

150k is kind of exaggerating. i make 110, pay 2k for a studio, 1-2 for consumables like food/clothes/bills/etc and save about 2-3k a month. I don't take many taxis and don't eat at fancy restaurants much though. That could easily add 1,000 to monthly expenses.
