Goal: Lose 20 lbs in 7 weeks.

Yeah it's definitely not for everyone and I generally cut corners when I do it so I don't go insane. My RFL dieting began to look like an 80% protein 20% fat keto diet after a month or two of it.

ECA Stack + Intermittent fasting.

Just do a bunch of cardio or light resistance training; heavy weights suck ass when you are cutting and makes you life miserable as well as putting your body in a vulnerable position as you cannot recovery properly.

I've lost 18 pounds in the last 6 weeks doing the potato diet. And that 6 week includes 2 weeks in the middle where I ate what I wanted. Lost 15 pounds, 2 weeks off, gained back 3 pounds, took a few days to get back to where I left off, and now I'm down another three pounds. Is it easy? No. But it is the only thing that works for me. I've done keto and paleo. Keto diet actually had me rocket UP 15 pounds, and it wasn't water weight. I've done a 30 day water fast (only drinking water, no food). That took me down 18 pounds, but I gained it all back in the next 2 weeks, and it didn't do my metabolism any favors. My metabolism has down-regulated so much I can get by on 1000 calories a day without losing weight. Except when I do the potato diet. Potato diet feels a lot like the water fast, except I'm never hungry, always full, don't feel cold, attention isn't wandering. 50 more pounds to go, so let's see if I can keep up with the potato diet.

I've lost 19 pounds in approximately the last 4 weeks. All I plan to eat is about half a pound or less of chicken a day. A lot of days I cheat by eating about 500-1000 calories of snacks though. I have gotten stronger, as in I can lift more weight on every single body part, but that might just be a combination of muscle memory from my years of lifting and the fact that I've exercised very little in the past three years except the last two months (newbie gains).

I usually don't feel hungry at all after I eat my chicken breast meal first thing in the morning after lifting fasted. However sometimes at night I get pretty hungry and can't sleep, especially if I've been very strict about my diet for a day or two (I don't think I've made it even three days without cheating).

One caveat to this is that 4 weeks ago I was 310 lbs at 6'2'' with a lot of muscle on my body, so if I was around 200 lbs or below I might have lost around 10-12 lbs only. Another caveat is that I will probably be ripped by 220 lbs or so, so I'm a pretty big guy.

The only exercise I do if lift 4 days a week for 12 sets at a time, and walk every day at 3 mph for one hour.

Hey OP, what is your status? Did you lose some weight, what is your current program?

If your goal is 20 lbs., my first question would be: what is your height/weight?

I am 6'2" and 220-230 lbs. so 20 lbs. in 7 weeks is realistic for me. I see a lot of complicated answers on this thread - just find an online macro calculator and exercise plenty with a combo of weights/cardio. Based on what you wrote, it seems like your bottle neck is not type of workout, but more your diet and consistency of working out. Look up macros, get plenty of protein.

Good luck, let us know how you are doing.

How are you preparing the potatoes? Also, is it "unlimited" potatoes?

I have always been fascinated by this diet, know several people for whom it has worked, and am going to try at some point. The idea of living on hash browns is VERY appealing. Just haven't been able to figure out how to make them taste right without butter.....

Yes, unlimited. But in practice, I don't eat more than 3 pounds a day. If you aren't hungry, don't eat. Don't eat after 6pm. Whenever I violate the 6pm rule, weight loss slows.

Prep: I steam them, peel them, then mash them. The Instant Pot pressure cooker is amazing. I cut the potatos in half lengthwise, pressure cook for 10 minutes to steam (not boil) them, then mash them with a bit of table salt. For the past 3 days I used half and half salt, which is half sodium chloride, and the other half is potassium chloride, calcium silicate, and magnesium. Lost less than a pound in that time, so I'm switching back to regular table salt now. My goal is to lose another 10 pounds in the next 15 days, then I'll start doing it in the style of the Cycle diet for three weeks and see what results I get. (Cycle diet is diet for 6 days, pig out on the 7th. rinse and repeat)

Fry them without using oil, just try it. Lightly salted, with ketchup or vinegar. Personally I stick to mash potatoes, but I've made amazing potato wedges, bake them on a cookie sheet at 200C, coated with a rub of equal parts salt, pepper, cayenne, and garlic powder.

I am assuming you are also losing muscle on the potato diet?

Can you clarify about the vulnerable position comment? I'm cutting but still lifting. I am on RFL, just don't feel right if I don't go to the gym and lift. But I obviously, don't want to hurt myself long term. Thanks.

No. No muscle loss. Just fat, and in the first few days, water.

20lbs on 7 weeks is very possible. Depends how old you are though. I'd recommend HIIT sessions 4-5 times per week (Youtube it), lots of sleep and water, meat and vegetable diet (paleo would work, if you need something structured). If you have access to a gym lift heavy twice a week, which will accelerate the fat burn. I've trained quite a few people who have lost 3lbs per week consistently, they were quite overweight to begin with though. I'd advise against trying all these weird diet things - just eat good, train hard.
