Give me some advice here guys... I just started grad school at a big urban / commuter university. I'm in the same classes with the same people all the time, so meeting girls in class is pretty much out (though working the friend angle isn't) there are hot girls everywhere, sitting on the grass studying, at tables around campus, etc.

I'm trying to figure out some good ways to open, seeing as how we are complete strangers, and more than likely she will be occupied with a book or cell phone.

Whats the best way to come in 'under the radar' so to speak and nail a second meetup (drink, coffee, whatever)

Dude no... the first few weeks are best for picking up girls out of classes, not the best time in general.

Parties are the best ways to get laid in college, hands down, but the OP was talking about picking up girls out of classes. And from my 6 years of school, it was always best to get girls on insta-dates out of classes within the first few weeks. Everyone is mysterious and fresh. Props if you can invite the girl to a cool party of yours, something I used to do back in my fraternity days.

You guys cant forget to bring a pack of smokes with you. College is a great place to use the "do you have a light?" line. I was kicking myself today about it because there was a hotchick all by her self smoking a cig but I didnt bring my smokes with me

I realize also that you're old enough (over 30) and probably have enough business acumen to say 'I'm the new senior lecturer in Management/Marketing/whatever' and be able to pull it off.

But at the same time, I don't know that I'd do this; you don't know the school's position on students dating professors (in the schools where is isn't a breach of academic integrity I'd imagine it's at least frowned upon), and you might not even know how the girl would feel about it.

No, the Grad Student angle is the best play here.

The internet is a wonderful thing; going out of town and want to hammer some co-ed ass, but think the girls might balk at you for being too much older than them? It's simple.

- You're a grad student; I do not advocate lying to women...unless you're out of town and there's a 100% chance you'll never see them again. If I'm local I may gussy up the truth or exaggerate a little, but never will I outright lie (even though the average woman lies everyday about everything). On the road, all bets are off.

- Look for a school online; every school has a list of its programs (undergrad, graduate and post graduate) on their website.

- Pick a program and memorize it; you can even go a step further and get the names of some of the instructors. This is especially handy if you pick a famous or prestigious institute (such as Yale) to 'study' at.

- The Fake Thesis; part of graduate school is the thesis. Look at some examples of graduate theses in your area of study, tailor to your needs. Not 100% necessary, but there's a good chance the mark will ask you about your work.

- From there, you can search the town the school is in; add authenticity to your ruse by maybe learning of a few notable local landmarks, famous people from the town, and even which local bars are popular with the university crowd.

Information...an underrated but crucial part of the player's toolbox.
