The other thing that sucked about Russian was that girls didn't give two shits that I could speak some of it. It wasn't like Latin America or some European countries, where if you make an effort and say show them that you speak a little, they get excited or give you a lot of credit. In Russia, they couldn't care less. I can honestly my four weeks of Russian got me absolutely no where with women while I was there.

I can confirm this statement.

I spent 2 months studying basic Russian just to be able to introduce myself in Russian and show basic manners in Russian. Not ONE single russian girl I spoke to gave 2 SHITS I was making an effort or knew how to introduce myself in Russian.

What a fucking waste of time. Had I known that, I would not have bothered! I wish I can get back those 400 or so hours I dedicated to learning the basics of Russian language!!!

Yeah, with Russian, you should either be in it for the long-haul and try to get at least conversational (3-6 months at least), or not all at. Learning the basics is pointless.

After reading oldnemesis's and Entropy's comments I think this belief that you will beaten up by skinheads if you go to Russia is blown out of proportion. Just like the belief about Brazil that sooner or later you will be robbed at gun point. Sure it happens but is very rare.

Another good report!

Alright I got the chance to read this carefully. My questions:

1. How much Russian did you use in the 3 girls you banged? I'm assuming they spoke English. For gaming purposes, is it even worth bothering to study for a short trip?

2. Did the Russian you learn help with the women or was it mainly helpful to get around, order food, etc.?

3. The 10% number that speaks English... is that for the entire female population or what you encountered at night? I'm guessing at the right bars that number would be higher.

4. How much is a studio of 1-bedroom flat for tourists in the best part of town?

5. After sleeping with a Russian, how much does she relax her poker face? Does she become affectionate and sensual by American standards?

6. If Russian women are always standoffish before the bang, what are some indicators that you're doing well in an approach? I'm assuming they still ask questions like where you're from and how long you're staying.

7. Did you dabble in internet game? What have you heard from other guys who have tried it in Russia?

8. Have you looked into the logistics of a longer stay? Is it just that the visa is more expensive? I read that you have to go the business visa route in that case.

9. Did you have to carry your passport everywhere? I read that Russian police will randomly stop you and demand to see your papers, especially if you look Muslim.

Again, very detailed report. This is the best Russian datasheet we have in the forum now.

1. Dude, do yourself a favour, and hit up the local dating or activity websites beforehand. I know its contrary to what you would typically do, but the language barrier is a problem. No point learning the language for a short trip and you want to make sure you spend time chasing english speaking women. At the same time, trust me when I say that there is no stigma with internet dating there, and the quality is not as bad as it would be in the USA or any other western country

2. You need the basics to get around. Things like being able to buy a ticket, buy something from a shop, ask for basic directions, that sort of thing. Nothing major though

3. Expat bars will have a higher proportion of english speakers. Its mostly young women who tend to learn english too, so nightclubs and bars you have more chance of running into them.

4. What sort of budget have you got in mind? Apartments are the way to go in St Petersburg and hotels need to be avoided. Hotels are damn expensive and the only time I stay in them is if its on the company dime. You can find apartments anywhere from $65 to $125 for something decent.

Try this site
, although there are tons around

5. Depends on the girl. They tend to be very serious people, although there have been tons that have warmed up before I slipped it to them. Flirting endlessly is a waste of time and you need to escalate hardcore. They dont play games as much though, so after you have banged them they are going to be direct as to when they want to see you again. They also wont spare your feelings either, so you will always know where you stand with them most of the time. The beauty of it all is that you dont need to second guess this shit either. Just ask them or tell them.

6. She does not walk away from you [Image: smile.gif] Seriously dude, if she is spending anything more than 10 minutes talking to you then its time to make your intentions clear, at least if it was a cold approach. She knows why you are talking to her and she is not like the women we typically have to deal with where she is looking for attention only. You need to be getting touchy quickly and you need to escalate. Be blunt too, but not rude.

The best way to look for interest is to look for DISCOMFORT. Not comfort. If she is clearly comfortable and you are building rapport with her, YOU NEED TO ESCALATE. But focus on her comfort levels, and look for signs of discomfort. She may be showing little interest, but if she is showing no discomfort or boredom, there is a very, very good chance she is keen. On top of it, she is as likely to tell you that she thinks you boring and cut it short then she would waste your time out of courtesy

They will ask questions about how long you are staying and why you are there. You need a solid excuse and the potential to stay for a long time or the intention to stay for a long time. Say you are writing a book and you are there for research. Tell her you are there on business and looking for an apartment because you need to move there for 2 years. Tourists are not crushing ass there, dont be a tourist.

7. Internet I think would be no different. No direct exposure my side, I speak the language well enough now and have no need for it. If I did not though, would be using it in a heartbeat. Just be straight forward with them. If you send her a message, she knows you want to probably fuck her. There is no self delusion with those women bro. I reckon tell them why you are there and that you are looking to meet English speaking women who can show you around, help you practice your Russian and help you to understand the local culture. Also, compliments work there and I suggest using them.

8. Visa's are a nightmare, speak to an agent. Dont fuck around with this, they are hardcore on it. I have never been to a country that is as bad as Russia so its best you get current advice from a specialist and you have copies of all your paperwork

9. Not just darker skinned guys, everyone. Anyone who looks like a tourist or is not local they will often stop. Often its to push for a bribe and the cops are sometimes involved in scams. I cross roads when I see them coming or duck into stores because I just seem to have that face. And because they cant speak English, they are a right nightmare at times. In saying that, I took two Spanish friends with me who were both very dark and they had no issues at all. Just keep your paperwork on you, research what the local scams are and you are fine. Most of the time they are looking to "fine" you, which means 300-500 roubles "for their troubles". (about 10 bucks)

With regards to interaction, a few things to bare in mind

- Compliments go down well. I know its contrary to what we typically have to resort to back home, but there is no real pedestal here. She does not think she is a princess and rather dreams of being a "mother with happy family" or "doctor that cure eye cancer because grandmother suffers from it". Dont overdo it, but telling her she looks nice or your like her eyes does you more good than harm. The cheesy shit works if its sincere. If you hit her up on the internet, tell her that her picture caught your eye or some other lame ass compliment. They lap it up.

- Avoid negs. Call her on her shit immediately without hesitation, but negs need to be cut out. At the same time, playful teasing needs to be used sparingly until they are really comfortable around you and understand your ways. As alien as they are to us, we are as alien to them.

- They are blunt. Dont take offence to their views easily and you need to understand they come from a different place than we do. Their pragmatism takes a little getting used to, but you start to like them for it.

- Be careful with the men. Dont insult, watch your manners and be respectful. Most are curious and all are opinionated. Take what they say with a pinch of salt, know many are ignorant. At the same time, most are a hell of a lot of fun and I think they are all bat shit insane sometimes.

- The women rarely flake. Phone more than SMS

- Read up on the customs a bit and discuss these with the women you meet. They love to talk about them, but at the same time its important to respect their trivialities when you can.

- Men pay.

Harry's write up is dead-on. My experience lines up with just about everything. Be very direct. Don't fuck around or tease. Be aggressive. Flakes more or less don't ever happen. If she loses interest, she'll drop you in a second. And yeah, Russians are opinionated as hell. They do not hesitate to let you know what they think.

Also, the men get a bad rap as well, but all of the Russian guys I met out there were super fucking cool. Very friendly and curious to meet a foreigner.

I'm visiting Russia next month for 3 months. I have loads of friends in Moscow but nearly none in St.Petersburg so I'll probably be based in Moscow.

Do you think it's easier to pull in Moscow or in St.Petersburg? Also, do you recommend travelling to other cities for a few days now and then to bang local talent, or sticking the guns to Mosc or St.Pet?

Excellent data sheet +1
Russia is one of my favorite countries. I've traveled around Russia for about two months and been to a dozen cities. I tried to learn the language as much as possible when riding the trains for days, Russians are very friendly but look that way.

I banged 3 girls, all Russian. One in Moscow, one in kazan and one in Vladivostok who became my girlfriend for a while and followed me around in Asia.

i will definitely go back to Russia one day.

Carrying a copy of your passport is always a good idea. However there is nothing which prevents the police to extort a bribe from you in Russia. It doesn't matter what documents you carry, they'll tell you that they can search you and find some pot on you which will guarantee you a couple of years in Russian prison. If you are approached by a police in Russia and you feel like they're trying to extort money from you, just give them those $10 they are likely asking for, and save yourself a trouble. Think of it as cost of living.

Yes, you should be fine. In the Russian society you're primarily judged by what you wear and how you present yourself, and generally the more conservative you're looking and behaving, the better you'd do with the majority of the population. You can easy up later, when they already know you (and they would likely too), but if you look and behave like a badass frat boy, you won't even get into the most places.

Sorry Mixx, but two months won't cut it. As people here say, the learning curve is very steep, and you need to get some solid background before you start talking. Note that Spanish is ranked as difficulty 2, while Russian is ranked as 4 - same as Thai and Greek. And I can confirm this - I learned a little Spanish and it is much, much easier than Russian.

In about 2002 I was in St Pete with my Ukrainian ex; in a pretty nice apt rented by the night, just a couple blocks from the central canal. It was in winter-- in the middle of the night I was half asleep and heard an American guy yelling drunkenly.

I don't remember if I looked or inferred it, but I think he was talking to a couple cops.

He raised his voice and shouted, somewhat unconvincingly,
"I work at the American Consulate, do you want to start World War III?"

For whatever reason, I think they left him alone, I don't know why they were talking to him ..

Sadly, this was about ten years ago and I haven't been back-- I've been working quite hard since then.
I want to be with Slavic chicks; and Never Go Home.

I personally would not yell at Russian police; not my style-- maybe this guy really had some juice. If he had a black [diplomatic] passport, I'm sure that would have done the trick. Being wimpy and cooperative with bureaucrats has worked well for me, with women-- the opposite.

An interesting-- make-work? event-- I heard a soft, chiming ringing sound in the morning--I looked out my window and about 6-10 babushkas were chipping ice off the sidewalks with something like straight hoes on a small section about 50 feet of the sidewalk.

If you go in the winter I recommend some of those small crampons that strap around the ball of your feet. Sometimes there is (or was) 2-3 inches of ice on the sidewalks-- absolutely glare dangerous at points, when covered with snow it's really hard to evaluate.

One thing I think may explain some things is that there is outside of St. Pete and Moscow, a lot of real close-to-third-world poverty. It's hard for a USA drone to imagine how much harder it is to bootstrap in business there except in the wealthier places. I think in a lot of places there is just literally not enough money for people to start a successful business no matter how smart and hard-working they are. Something like-- I don't know-- saving up and buying an ice-cream truck might take years and years.

One family of doctors I visited in far Northern Russia ( near the White Sea near Severodinsk) told me on the father's birthday he and his colleagues could not even afford to go out to a restaurant. And he was a medical school professor. This was in about 1998, so I don't know if the provinces are better off now.

So the chicks may be going for an older, beta, more boring American because she wants her kids out of there as much or more than she wants out herself.
That family was not after my sympathy or money in the short term at least; they refused to let me buy food with my own money except when I physically forced my way to a vendor and they couldn't follow.

Not much difference between the two, although having friends in Moscow just made your life a TON easier. Moscow is huge though and has a population of over 10 million people.

Hitting up the smaller towns and cities is a winner if you can either speak Russian or find the girls that speak English. They dont see as many westerners so there is a slight novelty factor there

You dont need to be fluent in Russia to go to Russia. If the intention is to pick up women, then you either need to be able to speak the language OR you just need to make sure you spend time hunting out the English speakers.

It does not matter where you go either. You are still going to have to deal with their "wack" culture. I have never met a Russian woman who did not want to travel, but I can say that its not just the skinheads who would be classified as racist by us. They are all racist really.

Its not a safe place for brothers or arabs and they would need to keep their wits about them.

Places where Russians travel a lot: (they almost always head for the beaches)

Egypt
Turkey
Bulgaria
Romania
Ukraine
Thailand (this was new to me, could not believe how many there were there)

False. Completely and utterly false.

Russians love opulence and there are a lot of men with a lot of money there. They have harems of women. But there is income disparity no different to what you would see in Brazil or Colombia, which means the vast majority are broke as fuck.

Now when you take into account the sheer volume of hot women and limited supply of wealthy men, they are realistic enough to know that they are not all going to land Ivan the Whale. Its not like western countries where obesity has removed half the pool of fuckable women AND the majority of men are middle class. An 8 normally has the option of Ivan the Drunk or hugging her pillow for the night. 8's dont land whales and 9's are going to be in their stables.

The perception many westerners have though is that you need a ton of cash. You dont. At the same time, the way Russian women see it is that if you come from a place that offers so much opportunity you cant be much of a winner if you are not either highly educated, well travelled or sitting on more money than the average local.

Is that an unfair position for any of them to take? I dont think it is at all.

Russia is expensive though. Moscow and St Petersburg are two of the most expensive cities in the world now.

I agree that education gets you props there. The fact I had a doctorate let me still rank with highly educated people there despite the fact I actively played up that I was basically just getting by financially and did NOT own a house.

When nobody has money I guess you're stuck listening to your friends and it may help if they have half a brain so you don't go nuts.

I'd agree with nem that dressing well is more important than how much is actually in your wallet. The fact that you're a westerner and there "on business" will imply enough.

But dressing well is absolutely mandatory. Other than Paris, it was probably the most fashion-conscious place I've ever been.
