So is it Americans? Or Obama who gets the credit? Americans have been helping out with natural disasters for decades. Ever hear for the Marshall Plan?

Duterte won because of NoyNoy and Yolanda. I was surprised to see how many people wanted to elect Marcos' offspring (son? daughter?) in this election. People need stronger leadership and thats what they are getting in spades.

It looks like the incoming US Ambassador is a career diplomat Korean-American who speaks Korean and Japanese.

Well played.

1. Helps triangulate Duterte with South Korea and Japan, who are at least as concerned about this maniac.

2. Puts Asian face on USA, reminds of Fil-Ams.

I have ( i'm old) but thanks for reminding me and adding to the historical context.

Yes, I was trying to (Shhhh!) give Obama at least partial credit. Forgive my sarcasm.

I think large troop and ship movements costing tens, or certainly hundreds of millions of dollars are probably run by if not Obama then the next layer down appointed by him.

I think all Americans get a gold star for helping Filipinos, they're just about the nicest people I've ever lived with. Only here has life not been a sexual desert for me at over 50.
Certain political leaders may be the manifestation of the shadow of Filipino culture: They hate confrontation and I think like to have someone else do it for them.

Could it be that his only real goal is to change the situation in the Philippines where 80-90 families own (almost) everything (business and politics)?

I like Duterte. If Trump isn't elected, I may consider moving to the Philippines. If he makes an alliance with Russia and China, this could provide a good refuge for men like us who want to escape the leftist liberal tyranny enveloping the West. We may not have many options left.

Duterte rightly reacted to an idiot like Obama lecturing him on "human rights" and what he should be doing in his own country. This is condescending. Why should he stick with the US who treats countries under its thumb like children to be corrected. Remember that "human rights" organizations are leftist fronts and their basic goal is to provide protection for criminals to weaken their host societies. "Human rights" was the platform of Jimmy Carter who used it to undermine the Shaw of Iran and create the Iranian Revolution which was the beginning of the return of Islamic fundamentalism and the source of the problems we are having today.

Duterte is doing the right thing for the Philippines. The Philippines is part of the East and their destiny is with China. America's accidental occupation after the Spanish-American war was a fluke of history and a completely artificial relationship.

He then said, "But you know who did come to save us? The Americans! Thank God for them!"

Also remittances ( much I guess from the USA) are the largest source of income in the whole economy in non-disaster times. I personally knew Filipino nurses making 80k+ in the USA ( plus defined benefit pension. Don't whine about visas because if you went to nursing school you could have , and could still now, walked right in to to one of those jobs.

I knew two girls in Phils who are having their full college expenses paid for by USA expats.

Talk is cheap, and it's easy to criticize.

Obama like other leftists love to help abroad, or at least to send money abroad, helping the poor and needy in your own country has little merit, because they remind leftists of themselves and leftists hate themselves, which they project upon others.

Duterte's a crazy fraud. Yesterday he claimed God was talking to him personally, telling him not to curse any more.

Now they are talking about visas for Americans, based on reciprocity. No matter that Japan, Korea, Europe, China all require visas. I doubt that will happen, just shooting off their mouths. I do wonder whether Duterte will whip up popular sentiments against the USA, a la Iran, Cuba, Venezuela, etc. It could get dangerous.

Beyond that, Duterte's lowering the value of Filipino life even further through his killing campaign. The Philippine newspapers have daily accounts of innocents gunned down by his death squads, including children at the wrong place, wrong time. At the same time he's leaving intact all of the oligarchical collusion, vertical and horizontal integration, and regulatory corruption which makes the Philippines such a relatively high-cost, low wage, low service shithole.

Here are two articles discussing whether Duterte is a Chinese agent, based on his long-term connections with the Chinese-supported NPA:

http://www.socialmatter.net/2016/10/24/e...o-duterte/

Quote:Quote:

Partially-Chinese Duterte is, for all intents and purposes, a crypto-Maoist in the mold of the Chinese Communist Party who is continuing the Chinese state’s war on the international drug cartels that threaten Chinese sovereignty. Having taken power by assembling personally loyal squads of ex-Maoist rebels to fight a brutal war against drug cartels, likely using guns and ammunition provided by the Chinese government, Duterte is now formalizing his natural alignment with the Chinese state, with whom he has quietly shared an ideology since he studied under Sison.

http://www.socialmatter.net/2016/10/28/c...o-duterte/

Quote:Quote:

The Philippines’ future will likely be violent, whether or not the traditional oligarchy moves to replace Duterte. Given Duterte’s death squads, it is improbable that any coup effort would be peaceful. More likely than not, private armies and factions of the military would be involved. If Duterte remains, his drug war will continue and may even expand to purge accused collaborators: government officials and members of the police and military who likely have ties to rival families. If he is Beijing’s man in Manila, would Duterte follow Mao’s example?

Pray for the only Christian nation in Asia.

Forget Japan, Korea, etc.

Even countries like Somalia, Rwanda, Afghanistan, and Libya get visas on arrival in the Philippines (which is what he's mentioned changing).

In fact, three of those countries get longer visas on arrival than the US.

The only difference for Americans is that we can continue to renew our visa for years without leaving the country, but Duterte hasn't mentioned that -- only the need for a visa when entering the country.

That's why he sounds so ridiculous. He's mad that the US has a stricter visa policy than third world warzones.

Who cares though? We have no business sticking our nose in that part of the world anyway. The Muzzies send us terrorists who kill our civilians; meanwhile China sends us model citizens that become engineers, programmers, phd's, entrepreneurs, etc. I can understand the argument that we have to have a military presence in the Middle East because of the security threat they pose to us, and the oil we need from them (for now). I see no reason for us to be in Asia. Let the Asians run things however they want in their back yard, and pay the bill for it. It doesn't effect the average US citizen one way or another.

Because the Philippines are very important in controlling the Pacific ocean.

As China grows stronger, Russia grows stronger, and the align with the similar issue of the USA stirring up trouble in the middle east for Saudi Arabia's gain, because our politicians are corrupt, they can soon challenge the USA economically.

If they challenge the USA economically they could remove the USD as the world reserve currency. If they succeed there, it is going to be a much more expensive and much more tougher life in the USA, at a minimum.

We truly need to drain the swamp in DC before it drags us all down in the sludge.

Duterte won because of NoyNoy and Yolanda. I was surprised to see how many people wanted to elect Marcos' offspring (son? daughter?) in this election. People need stronger leadership and thats what they are getting in spades.

There are literally over a dozen different Muslim insurgency groups in the southern Philippines, not including the "rebel" groups like the MNLF, MILF, etc. The media and government just file it all under "Abu Sayyaf", I suppose to keep people from freaking out.

The recent Davao City bombing, for instance, was committed by the Maute group, not Abu Sayyaf. Many of the "extremist" groups have soft alliances in an attempt to establish an ISIS caliphate in the region.

On top of that, the rebel groups are interchangeable with the "extremist" groups, as they regularly help each other. Most of the fighters are related by blood or marriage. Duterte is also related to these groups. He's a quarter Maranao, and one of his sons is married to a Tausug-Maranao woman. Both Tausug and Maranao peoples are historically Muslim, from the areas of Sulu and Lake Lanao respectively.

That's why he will never do what is necessary to actually end the Muslim problem and why he continues to blame America for the violence there and "subjugation" of the Moros, despite the fact that Moros have been killing and enslaving Filipinos for hundreds of years. Even during the Japanese invasion during WW2 they continued to kill Filipinos indiscriminately from Japanese and Americans.

They do not consider themselves Filipino nor as a rightful part of the Republic of the Philippines.

And who were the Moros biggest trading partners during their reign as a pirate and slave port? The Chinese, of course. Even Jose Rizal, a national Filipino hero, hated the Chinese merchants in the country, despite being part Chinese himself.

Today, most of the richest people in the Philippines are Chinese.

The communist rebels are Maoist, hence the connection to red China. The founder of the current Communist party and their military arm was Duterte's former college professor, which I mentioned earlier.

Yes, the CPP/NPA have taken places in his cabinet, but no, they have continually refused to surrender their weapons.

Do people now see why I would call someone who was taught by the leader of the communist insurgency, was part of a communist youth group (Kabataang Makabayan) that later became the CPP, calls himself leftist/socialist, invited Maoists into his cabinet, constantly uses identity politics and cultural Marxist language, constantly bashes the West, constantly brings up Western colonialism/imperialism, glosses over any "injustices" committed by communist/Eastern/Islamic parties, and openly declares himself aligned with the "ideology" of China pro-communist?

I am not just pulling this stuff out of my ass.

As with all things, the Trumpenreich brings healing...

Quote:Quote:

Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte has congratulated Donald Trump on his shock election win, saying the reality TV star can help enhance relations with the Asian country.
Duterte, who infamously told President Obama to 'go to Hell' last month, has often expressed his outrage with his administration.
Having repeatedly threatened to end his nation's alliance with Washington, he is said to be 'looking forward to working with the incoming administration'.
President Duterte hailed the success of US democratic system and the American way of life following Trump's victory over Democratic rival Hillary Clinton, Communications Secretary Martin Andanar said in a statement.

Duterte aligns Philippines with China, says U.S. has lost

^ Duterte's been copping pleas ever since he got back from China.

His envoy to China, the former president and decorated military leader Fidel Ramos, resigned as soon as Duterte got back.

Since then, Duterte's been trying to buy weapons from the US, because no one in the military wants to break with the US or use non-American equipment. When the deal fell through, he once again threatened to buy them from Russia or China. Where have we heard that before? Then he later "cancelled" the deal -- even though it had already fell through in the US Senate.

Then he started rumors about a military coup against him.

And just a few days ago he agreed to continue the joint military drills with the US.

As I stated numerous times in this thread, Duterte was bluffing all along and never had a strong hand to begin with. His entire "split" from the US blew up in his face terribly, as it was destined to from the beginning.

Wow, just read about this:

http://www.reuters.com/article/us-usa-el...SKBN13412N

He said alot of nice things about Trump. Trump's team needs to make sure he notices this and is well briefed on this situation, because American companies and expats in the PI are legit worried. It would be hard to fuck this up. Things can only go up from here. One thing I hope Trump does alot better than Obama is by getting much much better advice on Asia. It's so different and using Westerner Foreign Policy tactics, we make relations much worse than they need to be.

Duterte Lashes Out At Chelsea Clinton's Comments: "How Did You Feel When Your Father Was F***ing Monica Lewinsky?"

A few days ago, controversial Filipino President Rodrigo Duterte made a fairly 'unsavory' quip in a speech to soldiers about his decision to declare martial law following a prolonged battle with drug lords and ISIS threats in this country. In what was meant as "sarcasm," at least according to Duterte, he told soldiers that the ramifications of martial law would fall upon the presidency alone and that he would take the blame if soldiers "rape three women." Per the Daily Mail:

"For this martial law and the consequences of martial law and the ramifications of martial law, I and I alone would be responsible."

"Just do your work. I will handle the rest. I will be imprisoned for you. If you rape three (women), I will say that I did it."
Of course, as Sean Spicer recently found out when he idiotically compared Assad to Hitler, there are a couple of topics that should just be off limits in political speeches...and rape is one of them.

Not surprisingly, the comment immediately drew international criticism including the following tweet from Chelsea Clinton...you know, because we're apparently supposed to care what she has to say still.

Quote:
But, as we've learned before after he called Obama a "son of a whore," Duterte is not the type to back down from the pressure of public opinion and/or the twitter rants of former first daughters. Therefore, it's not terribly surprising that he lashed out at Chelsea with the following:

"These whores, they hear "rape". Like, like Chelsea, she slammed me. I was not joking, I was being sarcastic. Listen to the speech. I do not laugh at my own jokes."

"I will tell her, when your father, the president of the United States, was f***ing Lewinsky and the girls in the White House, how did you feel? Did you slam your father?"
And, just in case there was any confusion, Duterte has subsequently asked Chelsea again: "I repeat, when President Clinton was fucking Lewinsky, what was your statement or your reaction?"

'It is a crime actually committed by soldiers, mostly Americans in Okinawa,' he said, referring to several rape cases involving U.S. servicemen stationed in Japan, most recently last year.

"But, we never heard of a Filipino. But I am just warning them that anything they do, I have to answer for it. I take full responsibility for your foolishness. I speak sarcastically."

'You Americans, like Chelsea, be careful because you live in a glass house,' he said.

'I repeat, when President Clinton was fucking Lewinsky, what was your statement or your reaction?'
Somehow we suspect Chelsea's going to pass on offering up her thoughts on the topic of her father's infidelities despite Duterte's repeated requests for additional information.

Duterte aligns Philippines with China, says U.S. has lost

Looking back on this thread 8 months later, nothing came of the Philippines' "alliance" with China, who continues trying to strong arm them, and Duterte's Muslim sympathies are biting him in the ass, forcing him to turn to the US military for help with a situation that he allowed to get out of control.

His negotiations with the Communist rebels also blew up in his face, and he went from calling Trump a bigot to kissing his ass.

If only someone could have called all of this when it happened [Image: angel.gif]
