There were 64 shootings in Chicago last weekend. Where was BLM? Thus far in 2016 over 2000 people have been shot in that fine city. Where is BLM?

Let’s say a merely mortal taxpayer kills a cop.
Nobody publishes results of a drug test of the cop, never heard of discussion of contributing factors to death of a cop, never read list of reprimandations that cop received during his carrier. Domestic violence is pretty common for cops, but why this issue never come to the light when cop got murdered. Never heard of public appeals not to "jump to conclusion because everything is still under investigation", etc …

You're right man. because when cops get killed it is rarely covered besides a quick memorial message on the 9 o'clock news. When's the last public outcry over a cop's death? When was the last time you logged onto your social media and saw a flood of teenagers calling for the head of the shooter of a cop?

Can you even name a police officer that got killed this year without a google search?

Police go to work in fear that in many cities they may be executed in their patrol cars while waiting for their next call to come in be it a biker gang, ISIS fanatic, BLM militant, or El Chapo Sinaloa drugs dealing cop killer.

Come on man. Very few cops die in violent altercations. The overwhelmingly vast majority of police deaths are from traffic accidents. If cops truly believe they're under threat all the time and worry about getting executed, they have serious paranoia issues and terrible attitudes that do not lend themselves well to proper community policing.

Hardly anybody wants to fuck with the police, criminals included. All that does is bring down a ton of heat.

As to the subject of the thread, this case looks borderline. Without knowing more about what actually went down, I'd call it probably technically justified but not necessary, and the cops likely could've handled it better from the second they got the call from dispatch.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Am...ne_of_duty

40 cops were killed last year by gunfire.

http://www.nleomf.org/facts/officer-fata...facts.html

Police officers according to the above are assaulted 50.000 times a year, 15.000 times of those leading to injuries.

If I was a police officer each of those 40 deaths by some scumbag would be completely unacceptable. 15.000 assaults with injuries.

How do those numbers support the statement that police officers live in constant fear of being executed in their patrol cars?

No one is saying that police aren't put in danger. But the chance of them being "executed", let alone while sitting in their patrol car, are practically zero. Which is what weambulance was addressing.

And if you look at the actual statistics you posted, just as many police died in automobile accidents as from gunfire -- which weambulance also pointed out.

At least a dozen died from heart attacks, as well as 4 or 5 from various illnesses. One guy fell down during a foot pursuit.

Do police live in "constant fear" of heart attacks or traffic accidents too?

Of the gunfire related deaths, two were accidental and four were in Puerto Rico.

Among the most dangerous cities in the US, like Chicago, Detroit, Miami, Memphis, Baltimore, Philly, etc., combined there was TWO deaths by gunfire in 2015. The only city that seems to have a serious police violence problem is New Orleans.

There were more gunfire-related deaths (1 each) in Idaho and Nebraska than Chicago and St. Louis (0 each).

In other words, if police find the 34 US police gunfire deaths "unacceptable", they should consider changing careers.

Perhaps they should head a gun control lobby, if they're so outraged that 34 people were killed in a nation of 300+ million potential gun owners.

What exactly is your solution to completely eliminating all danger to police officers? Just gun people down on sight?

It's a total fantasy.

P.S. To be clear, this post is unrelated to this particular shooting. This is more of a general argument.

Part of me is pissed off that he got blasted like that. I really think we need to take a look at how police officers apply force in these situations. It seems pretty fucking brutal.

On the other hand, I am not that sad that THIS guy got blasted. But it very well could have been some other random dude not doing anything particularly wrong. We should be very careful about condemning people to death just because of their previous record. In that situation he definitely deserved a beating and some jail time, but a clip to the chest sounds a wee bit harsh, don't you think?

Now, let's place bets:

how many of us think this cop will be back on the streets within the next year? I sure as hell wouldn't bet against it.

I will be checking my PMs weekly, so you can catch me there. I will not be posting.

I wonder how those statistics would look if you only considered inner city cops, and not suburban traffic cops. Those charts are incredibly misleading.

Not to mention, lets consider cause and effect. Maybe the death rates of cops are so low because of their training and reputation for not people to fuck with? "Hmmm copping isnt the most dangerous job out there, so I guess we can afford to allow the deaths to be a little higher"

DFW Scanner Feed

Suspect armed with rifle and body armor. 3 Officers down.

Edit: They have him cornered on the 2nd floor of a building.

Edit 2: Live Video Feed

Edit 3: Video feed down, plainclothes officers ordered to suit up to prevent friendly fire.

Edit 4:

Edit 5: Better scanner feed http://www.broadcastify.com/listen/feed/5318/web

Edit 6: Black male armed with AR-15

Edit 7: Suspects cornered, call out for ballistic shields.

Edit 8: suspect (s) engaging police, additional female shot in front of omni hotel
Video/audio of shots https://www.facebook.com/michaelbautista...=2&theater

Edit 9: Gunfire over the scanner feed. Thats sounds too deep and too slow to be an AR, maybe AK?

Edit 10: Female suspect in custody, gunfire seems to be feedback on scanner.

Edit 11: suspect in BOA building 7th floor wearing body armor, PD switching to ch 12, Omni hotel clear

This is very bad and will lead to more and more issues in the future. It's going to put more cops on edge and people are more and more willing to assault and attempt to kill cops that most likely don't have a damn thing to do with each individual case. Most cops have never even pulled their gun so it's even more rare they have to fire it. But because of all the tension more people will get shot, then more cops attacked.

Hopefully some people with sense get both sides to chill out and bring the tension down significantly or their will be more and more victims.

That's a bit surreal seeing the videos on twitter.

I remember those green lit buildings from living in Dallas for a short time. The echo of the shots off the high rises gets me.

Sent one of my cop buddies a message telling him to watch his ass, because the crazies are out.
