Maybe this needs its own thread, but violence and street brawling is getting intense. Russian fans have vowed to "obliterate" the English boys.

There is a lot of sublimated anger at loser European politicians that has been brewing for many years. Maybe this is the spark that is going to ignite something. Maybe not.

I just remember that in during Justinian's emperorship, riots among different fans of charioteers (Blues and Greens) gradually morphed into a full-fledged revolt, that came within an ace of overthrowing the government. It was called the Nika Revolt.

Maybe I should do an article on that. I've always been interested in it.

This is gonna be good, just a shame half of Russia's team is out of the tournament injured.

Shows how cucked England has become, that its people can't recognise a nationalistic leader.

Back in the day, English hooligans would be supporters of Putin's policies(nation first).

Another factor is the decline of hooliganism in the UK, and its spread across Eastern Europe and Russia. They have taken the English blueprint and added their own flavour. Any reports on hooligan clashes yet?

English fans care about England first, why would they give a shit about Putin? The only other team I'm aware of that England fans are happy to support is Brazil.

The travelling England fans tend to be fans of lower tier clubs. The Hooligans are just guys looking for a fight - a lot of men love to fight - it's huge Adrenalin rush if it's your thing.

In regards to the game, England should have scored 3 or 4 goals. Kane did fuck all and no way is Sterling worth £50m. He slows down play, and he can't finish. Also, where the fuck was Vardy?

I met a lot of their fans in Euro 2000 and the ones who travel generally seemed to be uneducated meatheads who take as gospel whatever the Sun or the Mail tells them, hence their dislike for Putin. If they actually had brains they wouldn't lap up the shit served to them by the tabloids.

As for Vardy, the guy only really scores from long balls over the top so doubt he would have made any difference, unless they changed their style of play. They should have played Sturridge, best finisher in the squad, when fit.

I agree, as someone said earlier on this thread: our team is not as great as the sum of its parts. We have quite a lot of injuries this time around, including Kompany, so I am not going to get too excited unlike 2 years ago.

Belgium really needs a new coach, Wilmots is tactically weak and we need someone who can make it happen so that Hazard finally delivers for the NT.

I expect a lot from Ferreira Carrasco though. He played very well for Belgium in that friendly against Italy in November (skip to 3:16-3:33 for his amazing dribble and assist to Batshuayi, one of our great strikers!)

Are you referring to the hooligans or just in general? If it's the latter then you're wrong, Russia is clearly a European country. Turkey and Azerbaijan are the countries who should go to the Asia Cup, they are not European people.

The parts of Russia which are in Asia were only conquered in the least few hundred years. The core Russian culture was always on the western side and interacted with Europe.

Israel also takes part in European tournaments even though it's part of Asia

Quote:Quote:

Israel competed in the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) between 1954 and 1974. Due to the Arab–Israeli conflict, several Muslim states refused to compete against Israel. The political situation culminated in Israel winning the 1958 World Cup qualifying stage for Asia and Africa without playing a single game, forcing FIFA to schedule a playoff between Israel and Wales to ensure the team did not qualify without playing at least one game (which Wales won).

Quote:Quote:

In 1991, Israeli clubs began participating in European club competitions, and Israel returned to the European leg of World Cup qualifying in 1992. In 1994, Israel received full UEFA membership, 20 years after it had left Asia.

Russia covers nearly 40% of Europe, it is, by far, the largest country in Europe, while it constitutes only around one quarter of Asia's land mass. Turkey and Azerbaijan straddle both continents too. Less so for Turkey, but their main city is partly in Europe.

Israel on the other hand is in UEFA, but is nowhere close to Europe...

.

This is all totally normal in European football.

There will be significant contingents among all the fans who are actually hooligans and have gone to France to fight other hooligans.

The English fan is the ultimate target for all of these crews, because England is the birthplace of football and hooliganism, therefor beating them on and off the pitch means a great deal. The English hooligans are aware of their elevated status as targets, and are more than eager to fight it out.

Expect much more hooligan activity during this tournament, and expect some of it to be blamed on "far-right" groups, and so on.

At least their team sucks so bad that they never qualify for any Euro/World Cup, thus preventing any complain about them.

Exactly right, except a lot of the hardcore British hooligans have been banned from travelling to tournaments meaning the guys there are defenseless, 2 were seriously injured tonight...unintended consequences!

Let me just say that England fans have been all around the globe, including to Germany in huge numbers 10 years ago. There has never been huge trouble, other than in Marseille. It is the local Muslim youths, NOT the England fans who cause stuff like this to happen. The Russians are just nutters, it was always going to kick off with them.

England fan highlights:

The 'Fuck off Europe, we're all voting out' chant.
The 'Putin is a fat nonce' banner. I like Putin, but it's still funny.

England team review:

Thought we played alright. If Lallana had scored 1 of his 2 good chances, and if Rooney had scored with his shot (he should have), then it would have been 3-0, convincing, in the bag, no worries. We were just punished for our lack of finishing.

A good omen is that in 1966, 1990 and 1996 we drew our opening games against opposition that we should have beaten.

In the case of Eastern Euro hooligans that would be correct.

To clarify: I meant that all hooligan activity will be blamed on "far-right". Despite the fact that many hooligans ARE far-right, blaming it that way is part of the narrative(far-right=nationalism=violent and racists. As long as they keep that mantra going they're happy, however many people get hurt).

What you're highlighting is the fact that English hooligan culture has been decimated since the 1980s(English fans were banned from Europe for much of the 80s and 90s, and at home they have been decimated by new laws and heavy police tactics).

As a result the Slavic/East Euro hooligan culture has been and is rising, and they use English hooligan culture of the late 70s/80s as their blueprint.

So, place lots of right-wing nationalists in places like Marseilles with high Muslim populations, and you have a recipe for civil unrest. It looks like the French authorities are allowing it in certain areas, as it makes the visitors look bad. They could stop it all with intelligent policing but they're choosing not to.

Why does ESPN hire these terrible women commentators?

By the way ESPN, great hire with Abby wambach, just got arrested for DUI, and thinks children of American servicemen in Germany aren't American

Better question though, WNB.
