You can call it broscience but even the so-called knowledgeable people around are full of shit sometimes.
Please tell me how the human body cannot recover inside 24 hours when it has done great things over the course of history. This focus on gains and muscle mass is so boring to listen too. Everybody is gaining or losing something and nobody stops to think; "hey maybe the last few hundred thousand years the human body has learned to keep going all day everyday"
Whey protein obsession, protein shake obsession, gotta watch your macros bro! obsession. What a load of shit. I can picture the Roman Army telling its Legions to not go too hard less they not gain mass in their shoulders and arms from the training they did. ![[Image: lol.gif]](https://rooshvforum.network/images/smilies/new/lol.gif)
Most nutrition advice is absolute bullshit. It's really not that hard. If you're fat, don't eat a lot of shitty food. Eat less and work out. If you're thin, then eat more food and lift more.
That being said, your body does need time to repair tendons/tissues/etc. You can't go heavy every day, unless you're "supplemented" (like the Bulgarians were). Even with steroids, heavy training every day will fuck up joints and tendons. The body is capable of doing amazing things, but the body also "keeps going" by doing sub-optimal things.
If you're not fucking her, someone else is.

I suppose some people watch Spartacus and assume that all Roman soldiers were buffed out Bros rather than semi-nourished dipshits stuffed into a uniform and given enough training to form turtle formation.
The public will judge a man by what he lifts, but those close to him will judge him by what he carries.

My squat is double bodyweight, (150kg now actually, I'm 74kg), so if someone is 315lbs and is squatting 600lbs, they're not strong.
Actually that is Elite strength level while you are still Intermediate but almost Advanced. Impressive as heck squat for your weight, though. Congrats. But that big fatty is stronger, compared to others of his weight.
(I think we can all agree he would look better cutting to 240 even if he only squatted 500 as a result.)
Height plays a factor in what lifts you are good at and the human body doesn't scale linearly.

If I do some heavy (heavy for me) compound lifts and then don't eat a decent amount of protein that day, I can feel it. It's this achy lousy feeling.

@Rex, thanks man. What you say about height is true. I see tall mofos with monkey arms deadlifting impressive poundage, but their bench is nothing to write home about.
But I really think strength should be interpreted as your poundage on the main lifts plus your performance in bodyweight exercises as well.
This is why I admire elite crossfitters. I wouldn't train like them for any money, but they are incredible performers.

Agree 100% they are impressive as hell. (Of course I suspect PEDs, but nevertheless). Also, the top Crossfitters don't generally train by the Crossfit workouts.

I don't want to go all gay revisionist historian on you guys, but gladiators were fat guys. They weren't called "barley men" for no reason.
Basically, barley was cheap as hell and it still had passable levels of protein, so gladiator owners would feed their men barley.
As a side effect, the gladiators grew fat. This was good because a fat gladiator could get cut or winged in the Colosseum and still have a career at the end of it. Seeing some blood is more exciting than watching an obviously choreographed fight scene where two guys seem more intent on staring angrily and exchanging blows than cutting each other. This is also why Hollywood movies are gay. A guinea pig eating a carrot is more suspenseful than 80% of Hollywood fight scenes.

^^I've also heard they had some sort of charcoal drink that helped them get the calcium and magnesium their diet lacked.

So many times heard this "you need to change your workout routine every 16 weeks or you'll stop growing".
And "you need protein shakes". Usually from guys smaller than you as well.

I had to go to GNC to pick up some Brewer's Yeast for my mom because she's getting a little old. It helps her with something so she doesn't have to take a medication.
I ended making up a Broscience Story to the worker at GNC just for fun. I told him I coat any protein I eat with it as a breading mixed with egg whites because the yeast makes the protein expand and you get 1.5 times the grams of protein. I don't think he believed me but it was still funny.

Could this be the new bottled water?

2000 years ago, GLADIATORS ruled the arenas. An ancient Roman recipe made from natural northern Italian Pine trees ... burned down to harvest the most valuable ashes. To make a drink , so expensive and - sooo powerful, Gladiators refused to get into the fighting pits without it. Bro-coal, the original energy drink, for the original athletes!"
Could also give it a more Vegan/Vegetarian/Holistic tone like that Kampuchea scam.

4 in 5 women suffer from Magnesium deficiency which can lead to breat cancer and conservatism. Studies by Xhamster University have concluded that supplemental Magnesium pills have a less than 5% absorption rate. From the forests of Tuscany, to the natural elements, to YOU. Love the thread.
My college friend group is about 60% guys who played rugby seriously for years, so they have a fairly good grasp of nutrition and exercise. Some of the guys are a bit fat now (late 20s) but still workout so are built like powerlifters, others are still in great shape overall. Of the guys who don't workout there's one guy whos 5ft10 and 140lbs. Yet he regularly lectures the rest of us on fitness. Its a nonstop stream of theoretical broscience bullshit. Sometimes conflicting highlights at various stages in the last few years have included:
- "you only need to workout for 4 hours a month, any more than that is a waste"
- "walking is all the cardio you need, playing sports is a waste of time"
- "free weights are so old fashioned, if you want real gains you should be using machines only"
- "doing lifts other than bicep curls and benchpress just dilutes your gains. Why waste time with muscles women wont notice"
- "Hitting the same muscle group 5 days a week is the way to go. You guys are just being lazy"
- "I can get buffer than you guys with only bodyweight exercises. You'll see in 6 months. Weights are a waste of time"
- Rabid adherence (for a month tops) to whatever the MensHealth reported celebrity workout de jure is. The 300 workout, the Ryan Reynolds in Blade3 workout, whatever...
- Crossfit.
And loads more I'm forgetting. It'd be annoying if it wasn't so amusing being lectured about fitness by a guy with 50lbs less muscle than you...My number one fitness philosophy for years has been "don't take any advice from someone who isn't in visibly good shape", for good reasons like the above. There are so many skinny/fat broscience experts out there dying to tell you their ridiculous internet researched opinions.

The worst is the guy who is constantly changing his routine to match what he's seen on yet another Youtube video.
Guess who I train with?
They who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety- Benjamin Franklin, as if you didn't know...

Less is more, there is nothing more obvious, but it has to be smart and tailored to your body type and goal.
Anyone who trains that much and doesn't use real, exogenous (supratherapeutic levels of) testosterone as well as eat shitloads ...
is an idiot. And he probably is already even if he does do that.

The 'anabolic window' one is quite funny. It's basically guys thinking that they have to take in all their protein/supps as soon as possible after exercising to maximise gains.
