Movies/Shows You Don't Mind Seeing Over and Over

Flipping through cable and the Godfather Epic is on. I don't mind watching this over and over (granted I am working on other things on my computer, cooking etc.)

Any films that you enjoy the 10th time you watch it?

Shawshank Redemption is another one. I have it on DVD and I won't actively make the effort to watch it, but if it is on I will.

Band of Brothers is another.

I am sure on you likes watching My Little Pony - fess up. [Image: lol.gif]

One of the best lines ever is from that movie.

And I can watch Rocky 1-4 any time.

There are a lot of movies I have seen/own that I will gladly watch multiple times - especially if it's with someone else who's never seen it. Being able to offer up the first-time experience to people watching something you love and appreciate can be really enjoyable.

May sound gay, but I actually get more emotionally involved in a movie if I'm watching it with someone else. Most recent example: I watched The Revenant in theaters opening weekend and loved it. Brought my mother to see it a few days later, but for some reason I got choked up and glassy eyed at three different parts of the movie when I saw it with her. #bitchmode

I almost always get choked up at the end of American History X when I watch it with someone else.

I think it's because I'm relating the experience mentally to the person I'm watching it with - building connections with the characters in the movie that I normally don't build as strongly when I'm watching for just my own enjoyment.

Anyway, like I said I could re-watch a lot of movies over and over, but here's a short list of faves that I will actually re-watch deliberately now and again, sometimes alone and/or with someone else:

American History X.

Terminator 2: Judgment Day.

Fight Club.

The Curious Case of Benjamin Button.

Requiem for a Dream.

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (faggy I know but damn good.)

Bronson.

Good Will Hunting.

Shawshank Redemption.

Good Fellas.

Home Alone.(Childhood fave/tradition)

The Halloween Tree. (Childhood fave/tradition)

Most things by David Fincher, Martin Scorcese, Quentin Tarantino, and John Carpenter I will watch over and over.

Also, The Shield TV series.

General Stalin, that was a beautiful post.

Watching a movie you love with a friend or someone close to you, and reliving the movie by sharing it with them and giving it to them as you see it together is one of the heights of human companionship -- it can bring about a warmth and closeness unlike any other, and is something that is not spoken about often enough, like many of the best and deepest things in life.

Film is the most companionable of all arts and for two human beings to be given over together to its special depth and freedom is a great and solemn privilege; both for the giver of the film -- the one who invites his friend over into that screen, so enclosed and intimate and yet so teeming with life and narrative possibility -- and for the recipient who enters the new land bequeathed to him with the warm anticipation of what it has in store, and trusting his friend as a kind of guide who has already stayed there a while and knows the lay of land. It draws both of them nearer to each other, and nearer to the life-giving world of story, character, and texture that only film at its best can provide.

Also, thanks for bringing up the Shield. It is one of the great TV series of the golden age, and deserves to be much better known than it is.

same old shit, sixes and sevens Shaft...

^^ The Shield is a classic show, much more than a typical cop procedural show. I do have to say, however, I always thought sharing music was more of a bonding experience than cinema. Almost nothing beat turning someone on to a favorite album.

A Few Good Men
Rounders
Justified (Season 2)
Terriers

Many more but those come to mind.

Not trying to blow smoke here, but that was a beautiful write up. I can completely relate to what you've described. In fact, one of my favorite things to do whenever I find myself with a new girl or among new friends is introduce them to movies I like. I respect film not just as a source of entertainment, but also as an art form. Here are a few of my favorites:

Films:

Scent of a Woman
Good Will Hunting
The Wolf of Wall Street
Nightcrawler
The Godfather/The Godfather: Part II
Gattaca
Stand by Me
Collateral
Match Point

TV Shows:

House of Cards
Curb Your Enthusiasm
Breaking Bad
Better Call Saul
The Wonder Years
Seinfeld

Movies:
The '94 trio, in order of likelihood of re-watching: Pulp Fiction, Shawshank, Forrest Gump
Drive (pussy catnip)
Rocky IV
Billy Madison
The Naked Gun series
White Men Can't Jump
I'll re-watch the "Married Life" montage from the beginning of Pixar's "Up" just to make believe stories like that are still possible. Bitch-mode indeed.

Shows:
Seinfeld
Curb Your Enthusiasm
Chappelle's Show
The Boondocks

All of these I'd honestly prefer to watch alone. I've yet to meet a girl quirky enough to like Seinfeld and Curb enough to watch them with me. Chappelle's Show is iconic and I honestly don't want to spoil that genius with subpar reactions from people who don't/won't recognize it. I don't like feeling like I'm forcing my tastes on someone, and there are few things worse than sharing something you hold in extremely high regard and have them be like 'meh. It was alright.' In my treatment of bitches often I'd prefer to be a chameleon and try to find middle ground, because bitches are generally not open-minded about their entertainment. The lone exception is Drive, and other movies that are 'stupid.' Like Billy Madison, Rocky IV, the Naked Gun series. But Drive in particular is just about the most inoffensive movie ever made, and sets an awesome vibe for banging. Soundtrack is on point.

But I learned my lesson after watching Shawshank with an ex. She was practically bored out of her mind. On the surface a 3 hour movie about non-sexual male love is not bitches' cup of tea, I guess. That shit is even too emotional to watch with a dude, to be honest.

TL,DR; 'Genius' films and shows, or stuff I REALLY REALLY like, I'd rather enjoy myself.

The go-tos for watching with others are stupid movies and shows, or shows I don't care too much about. Arrested Development is a good one, and some Boondocks episodes really fit the bill too.
