Make Love To Bogota

hey bud, i'd be glad to help, i lived in bogota for a few months off and on in hotels,
If you can afford it, the best place to stay would be in Zona T, in Hotel St. Simon, it's a bit old but they've redone the rooms,
it's amazingly situated, yet the prices are only about $60 a night for the nicest style room. hundreds of bars, restaurants, 2 malls, evryting in walking distance. It's a bit of a hidden gem b/c there's nothing else in the area for less than about 100/night, and nothing else as well situated.

If you want something cheaper or in which you're going to be doing more university day game and you don't mind a bit of a lower-class area, a little dirty at night, look for something in Candeleria near Parque de las periodistas, there should be plenty of airbnb there, one of the other forum members lives there now.

If you're looking to stay longer than a few weeks, and on a budget your middle ground between the above 2 would be Chapinero, near the Zona Rosa area. you can get an apt, airbnb. That's where most people stay.

feel free to PM me with any questions or when you're here

Hotel St Simon is in a perfect area for what you want. If you like apartments better you should be able to find an airbnb for around the same price possibly even better in the same area. I paid about $40 for an upscale airbnb right there on a monthly rental.

Long time prowler, first time poster here.

For the Bogota veterans, I've heard Bogota being compared to NYC before. Is it hard to daygame by stopping girls on the street because everyone is in a rush to be somewhere?

Do they generally have the cold New Yorker I don't have time for this bullshit attitude or are they more warm and easy going compared to girls in similarly sized big cities in the US?

Your question is too vague. Do girls in Queens respond to day game the same as girls in Manhattan? Do you speak spanish? If not how do you think girls in NYC would respond to a guy day gaming them in any language but English?

I've been trying to learn spanish for about 2 month using duolingo, pimselur, Madrigal's magical key to spanish, and italki.

My question is more about the general vibe and pace in Bogota.

for example, do most people in Bogota rush around looking busy all the time with bagel and coffee and tapping on their smart phones because they are late to something, or are they more relaxed compared to a big city in America

It's got more of a busy vibe in Bogota than any of the other cities in Colombia, but it's not the US. In general, girls in Colombia are more relaxed and approachable at almost any time.

Also, girls aren't really glued to cell phones in public here like they are in the US because it's not the safest thing to do if you actually want to keep your cell phone....

can anyone say what they believe to be the best hotel(5 star quality) in Bogota? I am researching and get different options.

I don't stay in hotels so I haven't seen them inside, but there is a Sofitel and Four Seasons off of 85 and 13 which is a great location. There may be something better, but they are usually in the north and not nearly as good of a location.

Look into the W at 9 and 115. Go for the suite if you can afford it.

The Bogota people seem to be a bit more preoccupied than the little towns. It's like anywhere. Big city people are a bit more hurried and more suspicious of strangers than in a little town.

If the Bogotenas don't know you on a cold approach, they may seem to be a bit standoffish. But if you're drinking in a bar or whatnot, they're still pretty friendly and open. The robbery scene is bad in that city, so if you try to talk to someone on the train or in the street, you may not get a warm response. The Bogotenas are on edge a bit, and they have a reason to be.

But go hang out at a bar or at the gym or a soccer match. They're still Colombian and are mostly nice if you're in the right setting.

I've heard from multiple people that safety is a concern in bogota, I'm Asian and definitely would stick out like a sore thumb. I'm not so concerned about girls confusing me with a robber because I dress well, I'm more concerned about getting targeted by bad people because I'm so obviously foreign.

Are there any areas to avoid at all costs in order to stay safe?

Dude its Bogota, you're going to want to avoid about 90% of the city, there's places in Ciudad Bolivar and Soacha (south) that are run by gangs and anyone who enters gets shanked in about two seconds, so ya, don't go there. Basically Bogota for a foreigner runs on a north south axis from la Candelaria to Zone Rosa and generally you're safe in those areas.

Bogota and Colombia in general aren't great places if you're really paranoid about safety.

Yo i'm thinking of doing an exchange semester in Bogota. Do you guys think Bogota has a cool student life? Also my budget is $1K/month and i speak good spanish. Do you think this is enough?

I was talking to a Colombian guy and he said Medellin is also a good option

Your money will go a lot farther in Medellin but $1000/month in either place isn't much, its doable but you won't be living a baller lifestyle that's for sure.

With that budget you will probably be limited to a room in a share house with other gringos. For probably $250-300 a month, with $700 or so remaining you can have an ok time if you don't need to pay for other things such as a school with that money.

I think UDLA is a little over $5000 per semester and after paying that i'll have 1000-1300 per month+ an eventual scholarship. And i'm a student so i'm not really trying to live the baller life ya'll live. I mean as a student you can live on that money pretty well in most european countries and without having to share room. Is Bogota really that expensive? And are the girls in UDLA snob girls from rich families?

Great new article from Colin Post at Expat Chronicles, Comparing Lima vs Bogota.

http://www.expat-chronicles.com/2017/02/...ta-expats/

I gotta agree on all of Colin's viewpoints in regards to the comparisons and contrasts for each cities category. He is more than spot on in regards to his assessment on the "Party Scene"....I have not found a city in Colombia that has as many layers than Bogota has in regards to Nightlife....Most foreigners will access a very small percentage of Bogota's rumba/party scene....

Party scene – Bogota
As inarguable as Peruvian food is better than Colombian, Bogota’s rumba destroys Lima. In fact, it may be too much for you if you have trouble keeping control. That’s why I finally left – I couldn’t handle it. Lima’s party scene may be more than enough for you. But if you want the most sinful capital city in Latin America, make your way to Bogota.

Oh yea.....Don't worry for our guys that can't post about Bogota without mentioning the inevitable crime, drugging and death you will face....that category is in there for you as well!!!

Here's a video of another guy who couldn't handle Bogota's party scene, held hostage at a crack house in the now broke up drug area called the Bronx in downtown Bogota, I think Tully Mars posted it on here somewhere before. You know you gotta lay off the C-pipe when you end up like this haha!

The Bronx, Bogota is another place where you'll definitely get stabbed in the head.

I am assuming you are talking about Univ de Los Andes....if so Yes, a large portion of these students are mega-rich....strata 6 and beyond. They have homes in Europe, USA, and Fincas all over Colombia.....many will go to and from school with a private driver, and were mostly raised by their empleadas and nineras....

I have heard semester costs at Los Andes can range closer to 25 mil per semester and up....($8000-9000 USD)....that is steep for Colombia....(Avg monthly pay in Bogota is $400)

These students don't party like normal college students, in Europe or in USA. They will be at the best clubs in Parque 93 or Zona Rosa and dining at the top restaurants in Zona G....many will be socializing at the private country clubs in Bogota. They are not gonna party at the local tienda or salsa bar with lower class people in Chapinero bajo.

The kicker is they also will still be living at home with there families....Colombians tend to stay close to the nest living with parents till marriage.

I think you should still go, it is a great experience and Los Andes is very well known in Colombia (typically rated the best Univ in Colombia and well known throughout South America)....not to say you can't meet coeds at Los Andes, they have an excellent law school which gets tons of students from all over Colombia......but I think you will fair better at the hundreds of other lower strata Universities throughout Bogota......

On your question about the cost of Bogota....Yes it is more expensive than you think especially on your budget, of course it is way cheaper than Europe or USA....but the little things can add up....especially if your inviting some Colombianas out for a night especially ones from Los Andes.....Good luck!

Goddamn policia nacional.

There are two extremes in policing it seems. The police in the USA will smack you in the face with a stick or shoot you for mouthing off, yet in Colombia you can terrorize some gringo on a roof while wearing masks and the policia will just stand around with their thumbs up their asses.

Shoot those assholes in the face! You notice that all the police were standing around useless and the goddamn caspas weren't even worried that the policia were there. They stayed on the roof and were still fucking with the guy. The Colombian police are so fucking worthless that the criminals have no respect for them whatsoever.
