You're right, it formed a central paradigm of the radicalization of the French Revolution. Apparently this is one of the incidents that are leading to the protests, officers doing their jobs and applying the law:

February Incident

On Feb. 2, one of Bunatal’s residents informed her of being racially slurred in an elevator.

Bunatal said her resident, a black woman, was in the West Tower elevator when two white, male students walked in.

The male students were using the N-word in their conversation, which made the resident uncomfortable.

As she left the elevator, she said, “Stupid white boys.”

One of them responded, “Fucking black bitch.”

Bunatal called the RA of the floor on which the men lived and said the RA quickly got a confession from one of his residents.

The female resident told Bunatal she was uncomfortable with calling Public Safety herself. Bunatal then enlisted the support of Singh and Aidoo to help with talking to Public Safety about the incident.

When Patrol Officer Eric Willman arrived, he told the resident and the three RAs that no action could be taken without also implicating the female resident as well.

An audio recording of the conversation provided by Bunatal includes a man identified as Willman saying that because the men’s use of the N-word wasn’t directed toward her, the resident couldn’t respond without also risking being judicially referred.

Aidoo said the officer was equating the comments made by the female resident to the use of racial and sexist slurs made by the male students.

“You cannot compare ‘stupid white boy’ to the comments made by them,” Aidoo said.

Bunatal said the incident was an example of Public Safety officers not being prepared to handle racial incidents, and Singh said the officer’s actions condoned the linguistic violence from the male students.

Hundreds of students at Ithaca College in upstate New York have demanded the resignation of President Tom Rochon over accusations that he has failed to address racial insensitivity. Racial tensions also prompted hundreds of students to demonstrate this week at Yale University.

David Menefee-Libey, a Pomona College politics professor, says the national student protests are giving voice to myriad difficulties facing young adults.

“It’s a tough time to be a young person in the United States today, particularly a young person of color,” he said. “Economic opportunities are constrained. Access to higher education is constrained. Interactions with public authorities are fraught, especially interactions with police.”

At Claremont, about 30 students of color wrote to President Hiram E. Chodosh in April, saying they felt excluded, isolated and intimidated. The 1,300-member undergraduate student body is 43% white, 12% Latino, 10% Asian American, 8% mixed race and 4% black, with the rest international students and others.

Students have compiled a list of instances of bias, including vandalism at the Queer Resource Center, the defacement of Black Lives Matter posters, racial slurs, perceived mockery of their cultures and what they allege were university efforts to silence their complaints.

Their requests included a new resource center, funding for multicultural clubs, more diverse hiring, a mentoring program and an administrator to oversee diversity. Students said their pleas to Chodosh, Spellman and other administrators went largely unheard, according to the Student Life campus newspaper.

The tensions escalated after Spellman responded last month to an op-ed by Lisette Espinosa, who described her discomfort as a low-income Latina student at Claremont. Spellman's pledge to help students who don't “fit the CMC mold” prompted more protests and triggered a university review of her office.

In her resignation email Thursday, Spellman wrote: “To all who have been so supportive, please know how sorry I am if my decision disappoints you. I believe it is the best way to gain closure of a controversy that has divided the student body and disrupted the mission of this fine institution.”

Spellman and Espinosa could not be reached for comment.

Taylor Lemmons, a Claremont student who began a hunger strike this week to draw attention to the demands for Spellman’s resignation, thanked supporters Thursday.

“Let this be a message to anyone who sees a wrong and speaks out to make it right. You can do it,” Lemmons wrote. “All you have to do is speak up, be strong in your convictions and never give up.”

On Wednesday, Chodosh announced that new leadership positions on diversity and inclusion would be created in the offices of academic and student affairs. The administrators will work to increase diversity in hiring and in the curriculum, and a new space will be dedicated for work on diversity, identity and free speech, he said in a letter to the campus community.

“I stand by our students,” Chodosh wrote. “I support their right to speak out forcefully, and want their voices to be heard.”

After Chodosh’s announcement and Spellman’s resignation, student protest leaders said they would continue to press for greater institutional support for students who feel marginalized.

“This is not the be-all and end-all,” said Jincy Varughese, 21, a senior environment, economics and politics major. “The fact that it took eight months of protest and two students saying that they wanted to go on a hunger fast to create all of this to happen is very telling.”

Varughese says students want to be involved in creating and designing temporary and permanent resource centers that have been promised as well as in the hiring of the new dean of students and a diversity administrator.

“I think we are seeing some movement in claiming a voice for ourselves and receiving acknowledgment that we do have a problem,” Varughese said.

Teeana Cotangco, a Claremont freshman of Filipino ancestry, said she had not experienced any bias and had made a smooth transition into campus life as a member of the women’s basketball team, Christian athletes club and Asian Pacific American mentoring group. But she said she welcomed the student activism on race.

“I feel if we just overlooked it, the issues would just boil over,” she said. “Somebody had to take a stand.”

Students across the nation also protested the escalating cost of education and mounting debt. The Million Student March is intended to bring attention to what organizers say is a crisis in education brought about by budget cuts, administrative bloat and corporate influence, which have cut off access to higher education for many and left many others deeply in debt.

Demands include tuition-free public higher education, cancellation of all student debt and a $15 hourly minimum wage for all campus employees.

Claremont McKenna is often ranked among America's top liberal arts colleges.

Claremont McKenna is part of a consortium of seven campuses that make up the Claremont Colleges and includes Pomona College, Scripps, Harvey Mudd and Pitzer College.

Noted for its highly selective admissions, Claremont McKenna tied with Vassar College as the nation's 10th-best liberal arts college in U.S. News & World Report's 2013 rankings. The campus enrolls about 1,250 students; annual tuition and fees top $44,000.

@Veloce, GQ's response is the pedestrian, run of the mill tactic of the left.

Calling someone a 'racist/sexist/bigot/homophobe' is their number one weapon. They are used to this working. They are used to this tactic shutting up whoever is disagreeing with them on their beliefs, because, it usually does.

It's all they've got cause God knows they don't have truth and logic on their side.

Unfortunately, most cowards ( institutions/companies/universities) cave and cower before this tactic, so it is effective. Just look on Mizzou's faculty is caving.

The last thing some company president, or university wants to be branded is a racist or any other attack moniker the left chooses to use. Even if it's an idle accusation from a 19 year old kid playing second string linebacker.

So, they cave and apologize (and when necessary "step down" ) trying to demonstrate what compassionate, diversity minded people they are.

In a recent web comic, he featured the difference between men and women's bathrooms is that men's bathrooms have drug addict junkies with intravenous needles that are so high they are drawing swastikas on the wall with their poop.

Is this the source of the poop swastika? Some drunk hipster fan of The Oatmeal mimicking the comic into real life to show how high he was at the time?

The humor quickly gets stale though - it's basically the type of stuff you would see on some hipster nerd's Twitter: jokes about bacon, CAPS TO SHOW THAT YOU ARE BEING OUTRAGEOUS AND WHACKY, random non-sequiturs as well as just generic RANDOMNESS to show how crazy and over the top a situation is etc. etc. as naseum. A lot of his comics also started to get super preachy in a secular leftist sort of way which was a really big turn off as well. For those who don't know, the mizzou president is not only the president of Missouri but if also mizzou St. Louis and 2 other schools. There were not only minority students who were not happy with the leadership from him but also graduate students and faculty with their own issues. It just so happens that the racial strife was the 'straw that broke the camels back' as they say.

I am just not sure what's next. The football team takes a stand for a week and the president gets fired. Now they are back to playing football and have seemed to have drop the subject. Nothing has yet to be accomplished to make the campus better for any groups.

By sheer numbers, the drop in white students has caused the greatest damage, since they make up a majority of those on campus.

Tyler Morris, a white student from St. Louis, said he was afraid of being stereotyped as a bigot if he went to Missouri. So he decided to go to Missouri Valley College, “just down the road” in Marshall.

“The discrimination wasn’t against white people, but I didn’t want to be that person who I guess was stereotyped because I was white,” he said.

The university received a barrage of emails from alumni and families, some of which were published by National Review and Heat Street, a conservative news site.

In one, the parents of a junior wrote that while they did not underestimate the extent of bigotry in the world, “the way to effect change is NOT by resorting to the type of mob rule that’s become apparent over the past few days.”

The university, they added, had shown a “complete lack of leadership,” and their two younger children had “all but eliminated Mizzou from their college list.”

The email was forwarded to Ellen de Graffenreid, vice chancellor for marketing and communications, with a brief note saying, “I’m sure you already know this but you have a P.R. nightmare on your hands.” Ms. de Graffenreid, in turn, forwarded it to other administrators with a note saying, “This is pretty representative of the middle of the road people we are losing.”

In my opinion, the monstrous loss of money and students at Mizzou indicates that Protest Culture is dying, even though colleges like Evergreen, Middlebury, and Berkeley haven't felt the punishment yet.

Eight-five percent of Republicans said they had a negative opinion of the press versus only 10 percent with a positive view of this institution. Most Democrats as well were found to negatively view the media, but by a much smaller margin of 46 percent with a negative opinion versus 44 percent with a positive view of the press.

The only institution with the majority of members of both parties positively viewing it were churches/religious organizations. Pew recorded 72 percent of Republicans believing faith-based groups as a good thing for the country, while 50 percent of Democrats shared the same opinion.

That two year drop involving Republican views of higher education is staggering.
