Hey, really interesting read Armogan.

One question - did you book your condo via AirBNB? I was in Bangkok for around a month last year and stayed in mid-range hotels ($30-50), but looking at AirBNB the offering looks far better. At the same time, I wouldn't appreciate any problems at reception or my host prematurely cancelling my booking for bringing girls back.

I booked AirBnB and I would recommend it very much. There are tons of nice condos in BKK. Mine was around $35 a night. Cheap and nice. I never had any problems bringing back girls, and my landlord saw me almost everyday.

@Argoman. Not an interesting read at all. If I were around I put you firmly in your place. Disgusting. Hate the way you speak about women there as smash meat. Hopefully I get the chance to meet you. You will remember that for sure

I didn't call all women smash meat, just a few. Don't be so sensitive. I'll hit you up and we can get some smash meat tacos.

What areas do you recommend getting an apartment around?

Having lived there for a year, I thought I may be able to help:

Nana / Asoke is where all the sex tourist dudes stay... it's still a fun area, Soi (road) 11 is full of bars and clubs etc.

Thong Lor / Ekkamai is where all the hipsters /rich kids are

Silom / Sathorn is where all the expat/business types live

On Nut is a good place for location/price ratio (it's two stops after Ekkamai)
There's a good food market there and massive Tesco Lotus supermarket with a food court - both good for eating. More Thai people than foreign but it's changing rapidly. I've heard the night market has shrunk recently... hopefully the bar/food area is still there.

This time around, I'm looking at Phaya Thai - it's only 2 stops away from Siam (most popular mega mall in Bangkok) - the airport rail link train goes there (I guess only useful when you arrive and leave!)

1 stop from Victory Monument where all the minivans depart from to take you to the far flung corners of Thailand! Siam station connects with the other lines which take you to all the other parts of BKK like Silom and Chinatown (Hua Lamphong station)

Also, as I recall, it just had a really cool, busy buzz there - nice and local so good Thai food easy to find, office workers abound so daygame/gutter game opportunities... close to everything by taxi so time and cost beneficial.

That's where I'd put my money.

If you're young like late teens to early twenties and never been to Thailand before, I'd probably recommend Khao San Road area - it's crazy in a backpacker kinda way. It's fun. Get drunk. Eat weird food. Ride in dodgy tuk-tuks, meet new travelers, hook up with some Swedish chicks!

Those are my 2-cents.

Good luck amigo...
