I have always used music in this way from as far back as I can remember. An introspective type, I would often use music to complement a particular state of mind I was in (or wanted to be in). Being an avid vinyl collector & DJ this is a hard ask, I would have to say that 'that one song' for me has changed over time. I'll post the top 5 in chronological order.

Bobby Womack: Fact Of Life / He'll Be There

Really enjoyed the Bobby Womack inclusion. He's got to be my favorite soul/R&B artist outside of Bill Withers. Fact of Life always struck a chord with me, because I've lived that nomad life for so long. His cover of Fire & Rain always gets me.

There's also so much straight knowledge on women and relationships. His music is a great reminder that beneath game and all of the theory we discuss, women are just emotional creatures who need validation and attention. That "aloof alpha" pose is designed for short-term conquest (and works well), but I've always felt that he spoke more to "relationship game" and genuine emotional connection with a woman. The fact that there's nothing wrong with catching feelings and falling in love, just maintain your sense of self-identify and respect as a man in the process.

^^^holy shit, that's a great story. I found out about Charles Bradley through the forum and he is something else. Very heavy and great energy.

So lucky! His story is amazing too. Check out his documentary if you get a chance. I wholeheartedly recommend seeing him live as well. He really gave his all throughout the entire performance. I don't think he could have physically made it back on stage for an encore. He actually hopped off the stage and finished his last song in the audience, shaking hands and signing autographs. You can tell that he is just overwhelmed by the success and grateful for the chance to share his music.

Upon first hearing this track I knew it would be one of my all time favourite releases.

I travelled to Japan last year, while at one of the higher up spots at MT Fuji I strayed from the group and sat on a rock looking out at the clouds / landscape with this playing through my earphones.

I haven't had many experiences where I could really appreciate the beauty around me, every time I hear this track it takes me back there.

^ Great to see Bobby Womack up there

This is the single most uplifting song I've ever heard, from one of the greatest bands of all time:

This is one of the most emotional metal songs I've heard, the atmosphere is built to perfection, the vocalist's incredible and heart-rending performance is all the more powerful in light of his suicide not long after this was released:

This one hardly needs an introduction, probably my favourite Johnny Cash cover:

Words can't be put to this one:

And one last one, usually extreme metal really doesn't get an emotional reaction from me:

Side-note, D666 is playing in Melbourne in November, some fag/tranny/whatever emailed the organiser demanding that D666 be cancelled because their front man was rumoured to have said something homophobic in a 1996 radio interview that nobody could find a copy of.

I've developed a great taste for classical & opera. Great to work out & read to. I love everything that takes skill & is meaningful but I wonder if I've reached the pinnacle?

Cloud Sonata & Funeral March have been stuck in my head for weeks. Sometimes my mind simultaneously plays Metallica guitar riffs over them. Vesti la Giubbia is now my ringtone.

Other non-classical songs that hit muh feels:

This one stands the hair on my arms up if it's late at night and i'm in a certain state of mind - Bill Janovitz has this way of making his guitar convey strength and sadness at the same time

Buffalo Tom - The Bus
Album - Buffalo Tom (1989)

I used to play this song on guitar sometimes when my girlfriend at the time was over - she hated it and one night threw my guitar against the wall

Really unusual and can't be typecast into any genre.

It has has been a thousand years since I have gave up hope in
I've told my heart to know my tears at the bottom of the ocean
I hit the ground, I hate the dirt
When cold turkey on the church
I just keep on running running running running

I camp real good, and laying low
I got the hang of breaking
But today I feel like volcano
Today something is changing
Cant hold it down, it's breaking loose
I could try, but there's no use
I'm running running running running

Here it comes....
Here it comes....

Hold on steady, ladies and gents
Ooh, get ready
Cause here it comes

[beat break]

Hurt my turn, when time on shoot
It came unexpected
I thought praying, I love the douche
Hit me like a nap trip
With you, you're my rusty car
I'm afraid, but there's no point in loving loving loving
Jumping off the window seat
Laying all the cities
I left a note to pay my bills, I wonder if they'll miss me
Cause I don't know when ill return
I waited long but here's my turn, I'm loving loving loving

Here it comes....
Here it comes....
Here it comes....

Here it comes....

Here it comes....

Here it comes....

Hold on steady, ladies and gents
Ooh, get ready
Here it comes

Terence Trent Darby's distinctive rasp, like Rod Stewart accompanied by a guitar guy who knows his shit makes it to my daily playlist.

Quote:Quote:

I left the east side for a west coast beauty
A girl who burned my thoughts like kisses
She was down by street decree
She swore she'd pull my best years out of me
Fat painted lips on a live wire beauty
A tangerine girl with tambourine eyes
Her face was my favourite magazine
Her body was my favourite book to read

They say that all poets must have and unrequited love
As all lovers must have thought provoking fears

But holding on to you means letting go on pain
Means letting go of tears
Means letting go of rain
Means letting go of what's not real
Holding on to you

I left the rough side for a seaside baby
A chamomile smile that pouts on cue
For every moment I breathe her sigh
Her bosom contains my sweet alibi
In an emotional mist she breathes in fog
And breathes it out as garden flowers
Why me of all the tough talking boys?
I guess she heard my heartbeat through the noise

They say that all poets must have an unrequited love
As all lovers must have thought provoking fears

But holding on to you means letting go of pain
Means letting go of tears
Means letting go of the rain
Holding on to you
Means letting sorrows heal
Means letting go of what's not real
Holding on to you

They say that all poets must have an unrequited love
As all lovers I'm sure must have thought provoking fears

But holding on to you means letting sorrows heal
Means letting go of what's not real
Holding on to you

I left the east coast for a west coast beauty
A woman who burned my thoughts like kisses
She was down by street decree
She swore she'd pull my best years out of me

Fat wet lips on a sea salt canvas
Goodbye Picasso hello Dali
The soil is fertile where her footsteps trod
She's my new religion she's all I got

They say that all poets must have an unrequited love
As all lovers I'm sure must have thought provoking fears

But holding on to you means letting go of pain
Means letting go of tears
Means letting go of rain
Means letting sorrows heal
It means letting go

Solid eargasm!!

I never understood why Terence Trent Darby didn't end up the next Michael Jackson or Prince.

It was because he had an apostrophe in his name. He's the classic example of a one-album wonder. He was big for about a year, and his album his #1 in several countries.

Watching my father handle his own father's death makes this more poignant, especially as I become him and he becomes his father in the generations.

Talk to your fathers, it's important.

Nessun Dorma (Pavarotti) I always find moving, too.

I have always loved this song, even when I was a child. I could just tell that it was something special. It was before the video era, and the lyrics are in the video. There was a deep sincerity about Harry Chapin's songwriting, and nothing captures it better than "Cats in the Cradle":
