My DEXA Scan Results Are In (PIC)

Hi all,

Got my first DEXA scan a couple days ago and thought I would share on here.

If you haven't done this, I highly recommend it.

Caliphers are a joke. I scored 19% on them the other day. My DEXA called me at 25.4% eesh.

I think it is fair to say that I am firmly in the skinny-fat category. Since June 2013, I have put on about 14 pounds of fat. I'm just out of an LTR and I am hungry to drop 10-12 pounds minimum.

I don't know if I'll ever have decent muscle, but being thin at least will do. I'm just gonna try my best to look as good as I can, genetics-factored. Thin and well-dressed is better than most.

I have been working out a fair amount (running twice, weights 2-3x pw) since January but my diet has improved enough. I have dropped 2-3 pounds max, maybe added a little muscle. As I said, I'm now just out of an LTR so motivation has sky rocketed.

Craft beer - I love it, but it is my enemy. I can trace all my diet issue back to this beautiful liquid bread.

I have a clean diet, for the most part, but this makes it dirty overall. I have cut back massively in the last week. Moving towards, Miller Lite's two nights pw, and that's it. My entire social life revolves around bars and drinking. It's the summertime in Chicago. It cannot be avoided, but it's damage can be mitigated with better drink choices and doing it much less.

I've been doing low-carb for the past week too. I am trying to keep below 100 grams carbs and 2k ish calories pd max. Odd tortilla here and there, but no bread or other starches and sugars.

Tempted to do a little EC stack run for a few weeks to kick start things. Any thoughts?

Again; I highly recommend doing a DEXA. It's $100 most places. I will post back in three months when I next get one.

All comments/thoughts welcome.

Funny, I just got this done the other day too. Here are my results:

In my experience I found calipers to be very accurate. My guess going in was 16-17% BF while the technician's guess was 23%! Admittedly he didn't take a thorough look at me before I climbed on the slab. Still it was good to know that I was aware of how fat I am and how much work it's going to take to get from 16% down to 9%.

jbkunt2, if you want to drop some weight, I'd suggest doing intermittent fasting and lifting. But I would search the threads for more info.

How much do you guys pay for such a scan? Pretty interesting indeed.

From my understanding the main reason DEXA gives bigger readings on body fat percentage then calipers is because it includes the visceral fat, which calipers obviously can't really measure.

Thanks for the shout on intermittent fasting, Sam. I'll give it a look.

It's $100 for a scan.

From just a simple glance at Checkmat's results you can see he's doing something right.

He's low bodyfat (in between 10-15%) and his BMI puts him in at overweight.

Thank you. For reference, I follow the Leangains protocol of intermittent fasting and low volume, high intensity heavy lifting.

Also for reference, I consider myself grossly over-fat at the moment. coming off of months of surgery/couch recovery. Looking to get back to single-digit BF regardless of weight.

The place I went to offers two DEXAs for $99. So I'll get another done in a few months and post the results for comparison.

Jbcunt, as sam recommended, IF and heavy lifting is recommended by who i call the fitness gods, lyle mcdonald, alan arogon and martin berkhan. EC stack is recommended only on a cut. Don't take at night however. Drinking is o.k. just subtract 500 calories carb/fat calories only on the days you drink. Good luck!

I don't know how you guys can lift anything when fasting. My strength takes a big hit whenever I've tried it. I prefer boring old counting calories.

If only you knew how bad things really are.

Rex - have you tryed working out with 10g of bcaa's in your system? They make a world of a diffrence! I work-out "fasted" and also count calories (well every six months when i switch the foods i'm eating)

I have. I find that they help with recovery but not with energy. If I workout when fasted, not only am I weaker, but I'm also ready to take a nap after a few sets.

On top of the 10g bcaa's I also ingest 25mg of ephedrin, 325mg of caffeine, and 1000mg of L-tyrosine. The ect stack curbs any tiredness I may have at the gym. Working out fasted is not for everyone however I personally prefer it now.

I too prefer fasted training. My best squat and deadlift pr's were done on caffeine and BCAA's, no food in the stomach.

Checkmat you are what 5'8 ish or just under? And you're 191 pounds at 15-16 percent bodyfat?

Way to go man. That's impressive.

Echoing Nascimentos sentiments, keep doing what your doing as you are clearly doing it right.

I also prefer fasted training to stay lean. I also seem to feel stronger a good amount of the time and I can't work out why. Just the other day I trained fasted and managed to up my weight to a new best on incline dumbell press and set a new best for weighted dips.

I'll always take BCAAs though and then either a scoop of pre workout or a little beet juice. The pumps are ridiculous I get veins popping everywhere.
