Even if its population plunges back to what it was back in the 15th century, Japan will still exist. Eventually, things will balance out and the birth rate will rise. Yes, there will be economic pain in the interim, and (gasp!) low ROI on Capital, but Japanese civilization will survive and perhaps still be around 1000 years from now.

But if Japan goes down the immigration route and seeks to create a demographic pyramid scheme, then Japan will not survive. Yes, there will still be an island at those coordinates and it will be called Japan, and maybe even people will speak Japanese there. But if any Japanese who has ever lived up to this point were transported to that island and saw that the people there looked like the current Miss Japan, he would certainly feel that Japan is gone.

Firstly, Brazil is not doing that well itself. Its TFR (total fertility rate) is below replacement levels. Also, I guarantee that if you looked at a breakdown by class, education, etc., its middle and upper class wouldn't be in that much better shape than the Japanese middle class. This is the case everywhere almost everywhere in the world that there's even a modicum of development. What inflates Brazil's TFR is that it's the poorest, dumbest people pumping out kids. Brazil's relatively greater fertility (because its TFR is still sub-replacement) is totally dysgenic. That is hardly something the Japanese should emulate.

The Japanese are some of the smartest, most civilised people on the planet. The solution for Japan -- and it's a solution plenty of Western nations are going to need to figure out also -- is not to solve their problems by flushing the nation's collective IQ, social cohesion, etc. down the toilet via importing the dregs of the third world. The solution is for the Japanese to stop being such a bunch of pussies.

However, if you look at the lists here of TFR by nation, you see that Japan has TFR of ~1.4 and Brazil has TFR from 1.69-1.82. Japanese society is pretty uniformly middle class, so there's little need to sort those numbers out by class. However, if you did that in Brazil, you'd probably find that the Brazilian middle class and above are also at TFR of ~1.4. It's the 85 IQ favela scum who are propping Brazil up at 1.69-1.82. I understand what your solutions are, but they can't exactly be forced top down, at least not in a democracy. Maybe not even a democracy, just a modern state. Other countries (most notably Singapore) have tried economic incentives and failed. The carrot doesn't work. The stick also wouldn't work. There is no way any political party would get into power on a platform of de-pussifying men via military boot camp and forcing women back into the kitchen and bedroom. It just wouldn't happen.

It is going to require a massive crisis, be it economic or military, for these problems to really begin to be addressed. Such events could be manufactured, of course, but is that something people would really want? Who is going to volunteer to be the one lining up in a soup kitchen or being shot or bombed "for the good of the nation"? I believe there will be a number of major crises within the next few decades, and I think that is when these things will be sorted out. However, whilst I see these things as coming, I don't think they should be helped along.

Looks like Mori is one quarter Japanese. When I saw the green eyes, I figured there's no way she could be half Japanese. As far as I know light-colored eyes are recessive and can only appear when both parents have some degree of Caucasian ancestry.

There isn't much of a backlash. A few twitter comments, some grumbling, but really this story seems bigger here in the western media (both mainstream and reactionary).

I think of the European white countries Germans are sort of a blank canvas in that they don't have as prominent of any feature and are sort of a jack of all trades as far as facial structure and looks.
