+1 for cold brew. Shit is all over New Orleans and is AWESOME. I usually like a more bitter taste, but cold brew is so nice and smooth.

If anyone has problems with coffee causing heartburn/ gastro/ stomach problems because of the acid in coffee....try Rich Rewards Coffee. It's acid free and great. You can get it off Amazon.

I had to stop coffee a few years back because of stomach gurgling. Then, I found this and goes down smooth.

I have a French press somewhere in my kitchen but I'd have to look for it. On most days I just use a moka pot and drink it without sugar or milk. Sometimes, I'll put in a bit of milk and sugar but that's uncommon.

Over the years my daily consumption has only increased. On some days I take Earl Grey but that's mostly when I go to someone's house for tea. Frankly, I don't see a reason to stop drinking coffee.

I just got back my coffee machine for I left it at a friends place (dinner party and I knew he didnt had one)

Went a week without real coffee, got withdrawal simptoms, not kidding.

Cold sweats, headaches...

7-11 coffee is weak and expensive on a cup by cup basis.

Perhaps I should be getting off of it slowly...

I've tried drinking several types of coffee, from cafes, starbucks, costa etc.

I like the taste and effects, although 1 hour later my stomache has cramps and I usually have diarrhea.

This is preventing me from drinking coffee daily.. Any help on how I could prevent this would be very much appreciated!

I found out that in order to speed the drying process after harvesting, the beans are sprayed down with a chemical similar to metheylene chloride which draws the moisture out like a sponge.
Now I stick with organic beans. $10/lb.

I believe you're thinking about the solvents used to decaffeinate beans. They don't spray any beans down with chemicals to aid drying, it's either air or oven.

Yeah, gave it up for well over a month. Just tried it as an experiment. Result - no noticeable difference whatsoever. So went back to drinking it.

Trying to give up coffee right now. All of a sudden (the last year) I've become very sensitive to caffeine, and it's started to make my teeth yellow. I'll go to the dentist for a clean and polish, then drink coffee for a few days as normal, and my teeth go back to looking like a 70 year old Englishman's.

As you get into middle age your body develops less resilience towards all kinds of things, sadly coffee is going on to that list for me.

I have never been a coffee drinker. I grew up drinking hot black tea then years ago switched to hot green tea and honey (I have at least two mugs a day)

But for some reason I have been craving coffee for the past two weeks... seemingly out of no where. I don't usually do well with caffeine though. I don't drink soda or anything so the only caffeine I ever get is the mild amount in my green tea.

Like 2 or 3 years ago I would sometimes get Mcfrappes from McDonalds and it was like meth to me.... I would be wired and fired up but then have a mean sleepy crash afterwards.
I sat at a chair outside Starbucks this afternoon and pondered getting a coffee and then going out to the park and day gaming. However as fate would have it this hot young girl and her friend walked by when I was sitting there so I hoped up and walked them down and ended up walking around with them bikini shopping.... Life's hard sometimes man.

I had the same, giving up does nothing for me. Having more than 2 cups a day does though, it makes me feel 'dry' inside, so i don't do that anymore. I really like the coffee that i make with my moka, more than other types.

Just bought a pack on amazon after seeing your post. My review: god damn!! Generally at 11am I would be popping Zantac or chugging ACV because My acid would be so bad.

Today it is nonexistent!

Thanks for the suggestion

I knew two guys treated for "caffeinism" basically dependence and overdose on caffein. One had a large mug in his hand all day, filled with a 40-cup maker in the workplace. He'd drink a six pack of beer after work to come down.

The other guy was a janitor at my college, same thing with about 20 cups a day.

Both of these guys were skinny as rails and had the pallor of a corpse - gray skin.

My own consumption is steady but moderate - 2-3 cups in the morning, one in the late afternoon around 4.

I know it gets a lot of hate, but I appreciate Starbucks. Around the world, it's a clean, comfortable place to hang out with a nice coffee smell. I like independent cafes a lot, too.

I have had two terrible, vomit inducing headaches in my life and I am certain they were both from caffeine withdrawal. That being said, I did take a month off from coffee a few years ago. I was drinking more of it at that time than I do now, and I carefully weaned off of it to avoid the debilitating headache. I certainly slept better during that month and the typical energy ups and downs of the day were more level. When I had my first cup after that month off it felt like rocket fuel, which made me realize that caffeine is quite powerful and should be respected. Since then I keep my intake down to one good cup at home in the morning and sometimes an espresso after lunch. Quality is important. I'd rather have no coffee than mediocre coffee. Also, call me a sucker if you want, but I've been making "Bulletproof" coffee every morning and then fasting until at least noon for the past couple months and I love it.

Is ghetto coffee (Stop and Shop brand) any worse health-wise then gourmet stuff?

The generic coffee isn't really any worse health-wise as long as you're not masking the taste with tons of cream and sugar.

I'm pretty simple, when I make coffee at home it's Lavazza House Blend in my drip machine, black. Sometimes I'll add 1 tablespoon of coconut oil and shake it in a blender bottle to emulsify. Gives it a nice flavor and healthy fats.

^ If I drink cheap coffee it's hard on my stomach. I also don't savour and enjoy it. If I make a nice pour over at home or get a good espresso from a place that does it right then I find it to be blissful. As for health, there is a lot of talk of toxins and stuff like that but who knows. Maybe the cheap stuff is too acidic, or maybe it's loaded with preservatives. Either way it doesn't taste good or make me feel good. I buy beans from my local shop where they roast it on site and the beans have been roasted only a couple days prior (the beans are actually supposed to rest for a couple days after roasting). I think a good rule of thumb with coffee is that same with meat or produce or booze or even pussy: consume reasonable amounts of high quality goods.

How often do you guys drink coffee? I'm making the assumption coffee drinkers drink on a daily basis.

I've always enjoyed coffee, more than just for the benefits of caffeine. For the past several months I've always drank it on a weekly basis, somewhere between 3-4 times a week.

I'd like to drink it daily, one full cup in the morning and that's it.. Would I develop a tolerance, or does that only happen when you drink 2-3 cups daily?

Would I get intense withdrawal symptoms going one day without it?

If there was a coffee newbie thread I'd post there, but this one should suffice [Image: angel.gif]
